Console Prices Going Down?

I heard a rumor that the PS3 and Wii Console prices are going to drop soon? Anyone have an idea of when? I want to buy the Wii bundle pack at wal-mart.com but it is like 598.00 good grief while 80 GB PS3 + is out of stock online but it is 499.00. I heard they might reduce prices to compete with each other.

Anyone know when the prices will be shooting down and by how much?

I haven't heard rumors of either dropping, although there will be anew 80GB PS3 at $399. Can't imagine the Wii price dropping anytime soon considering how well they're still selling.

Wii might have to drop to $199 to compete with the X360 Arcade, which is rumored to be dropping to $199 before long.

Exactly. Some people are just engaging in wishful thinking. Wiis are still highly in demand and because of the unique experience are NOT price sensitive.

Seriously, what do people think? That granny is going to look at the Wii for $250 and the 360 for $200 and pick the 360?!

I just had a conversation with a owner of a DVD and Gaming site. I wish I saved the conversation but he said that the Wii price is staying. PS3 is ranked the 3rd place as far as sales. He said it is better to get a Wii because they will be harder to get come Christmas.
He also said that they are trying to get alot more titles out on the Virtual Console.

I gotta call BS on this. They could easily put out more VC titles if they wanted. The first year of VC was okay, but then Nintendo put the brakes on the releases and have put out mostly crap no one wants.

I don't see either console dropping. The PS3 camp has been pretty adamant about sticking where they are at for a while since they aren't bleeding money like they have been on the system.

The PS3 is "dropping" in the sense that the 80gb model is going to become the "core" model and will be priced at $399...but it won't have backwards compatibility.

The Wii on the other hand?

Hell, there's even rumors that the new 60gb 360 will be $299 soon. Only time will tell if that's true.

It's going to be a bit strange and funny when the Xbox 360 is priced lower than the Wii and it still gets outsold by it.

I can't wait for the PS3 to drop to $200 in 2 years, so I can finally get my grubby hands on some of that PSN goodness.

It's all but gone. Keep an eye out for deals on the slim PS2 if you need the capability. There have been some regional deals for as low as $70, which, IMO, is low enough to keep one sealed in the closet in case the current unit burns out. Then again, there's probably enough of them on the market that the secondary market will be like the current market for the PS1 - $30 shipped for a working, cared-for unit with controllers and wires.
