Glad you guys...um...enjoyed it.

Rocky - very cool level! Everything worked great, with one exception. In both of my plays through, I couldn't manage to ride the rollercoaster to the end. One time I managed to break the car, and the other time I fell off. Fortunately it doesn't break the level if you have to walk to the end. Good show!

Unk...
Thanks for the feedback - the trick on the rollercoaster is to accelerate up the ramps then just hold on to the other sponge parts going down. I added a Kebab stand between the first two pylons of the coaster on the ground.

Thankfully there's no real consequences to falling off. I think the pirate ship is the best part. The momentum and the way it swings is really true to life. Very cool!

You faw down go boom! The pirate ship is built on a wobble bolt - I tried it first with a rod, but the ship barely moved! Changing to the metal pole really worked well - I'm going to add a pirate flag to it eventually. Similarly, the material I made the balloon basket out of (wood basket) had enough counterweight to it so that the rocket wouldn't just fly off with it. Material choices and sizes really do matter.
How did you carve out all of that material for your level? It was fun and challenging!

It's one big super-thin background layer, and then I slapped the full-depth platforms and walls onto that. There may be a better way of doing it, but that was the easiest way I could figure out.

Thanks HotThang! Interesting approach UncleGramps - it seems "3-D" due to where you put things!
OK, maybe I'll have to tweak the rocket thrust a little bit. When I first built it, there wasn't enough thrust to get up the first hill. The other side of the hills are so shear that if you tried to walk them it'd be like a fall. I "freehanded" the coaster's shape BTW - I wish there was a spline editor (sorry, I use 3ds max 8 on my PC, hence the nomenclature) that would let you smooth curves better.
I just added a few touches (the thermometer is almost at the top!):
*Jolly Roger is now flying on the top of the pirate ride
*Tweaked the coaster noises - you will here creaks when you pass where the track and posts meet
*Some of the clouds on the balloon ride are now electrified - I don't even remember which ones! I'll add a respawn point there as well
*An ice cream stand is now the second attraction on the midway (I'll have to make a sign that points to the midway)
I may add emitters that will let you recreate a vehicle (especially the 'coaster) if you regen. BTW, if you haven't seen it, the balloon is just the right weight and has enough lift that if you fall out and land on the ground, it will eventually drift all the way back down unless it gets stuck on something.

Rocky... got a nice "First" trophy for playing your level... sweet...
First time through, I rode the "elevator" up to the flume ride, but fell off... elevator never came back down???
First time through, rollercoster worked like a charm... made it all the way...
Second time through, got to ride the flume, since I knew better than to fall off the elevator...
Never did get another start->finish ride on the coaster though...
Pretty cool idea... plus I could see it being "expanded" with new rides and events...

Rocky - the amusement park was pretty good! I had the same problem the first time through with the roller coaster, but other than that, everything worked pretty well.
So I gave up on SOFIA. It seems that when I try to build mechanical things, they just don't work very well. I tried sprung bolts to get the "jump" action but they would either not work at all or just tweak up the works. Then I tried pistons, and they had the same problem with the added bonus that they would sometimes just break. Then my control scheme - pictured below - wouldn't work at all. For some reason the buttons connected to the motor bolts just wouldn't work.

Anyways, I decided to build a maze with puzzles and such. We'll see how it works out. I've been researching logic levels and permanent switches that may help out with the puzzles. Just look for "Netty logic" or something like that and you'll find them. There was another guy that made similar logic switches, but did them all within a thin layer so that they can be hidden easily.
Oh yeah, the latest batch of costumes are available. They have an animal pack for $2.99 with each animal available individually for $0.99. There's a Motostorm costume for $1.99. And there's also a "sack-eating" plant for free. I just got that one. Still don't know if I want to pay for costumes.

One simple fix for the coaster car might be just putting a roof on it so that the player is fully enclosed. They could either hop in from the front plane or the rear plane to get on the ride. If you want to get fancy, you could put the roof on a hinge, have it be open at first, and then close it once the player is inside (via the grab switch or a proximity switch). I guess the drawback to a roof is that it's not really like an actual rollercoaster car any more, and it might throw off the aerodynamics or the amount of thrust needed. But, just another option to consider.

C-Mart...
Got it! I'll use my construction zone level to try something like that! If it works I'll do it! Heck, now that I think about it, it can just be a bolted piece of round rubber that catches underneath the ramp!

Yeah, my worry is that the connector won't be able to withstand the forces on it... but it is definitely worth a shot.
