I Miss The Days When (i didn't have to install games)

I can just put the disc in and start playing a console game instead of it trying to install the game!!!! And it takes more than 5 mins to install!!

You must be playing on either a PC or a PS3. If you're that impatient maybe you should try a Wii or a 360.

5 minutes, that's terrible! I guess I'm done playing videogames.

I know, people get all hot and bothered by the prospect of downloading some updates, expansions, content, etc. I understand the issue that it is a pain in the ass, and when you sit down to play a game you want to play it then. All of a sudden you find yourself waiting 5-10 minutes, which in this situation feels like a fucking eternity. However, I would much rather go through the monthly updates, downloads, installations, etc. than go without them and lose out on available content.

It's not just the installs, it's the mandatory updates too. Luckily, the downloads have been pretty small on consoles so far, but they're getting to be more like PCs with the patches and installs.

I bought PAIN the other day, and had to download the game, install it, then download like 5 patches... no option to do anything else. Metal Gear Solid 4 took a long, long time to install, and it wasn't optional. Using the Hard drive as a crutch for slow Blu Ray loading times is a little ridiculous.

I haven't minded game updates on the 360. They're all really quick and probably take less then a minute.

And it affects more when you get older, get more responsibilities, don't have too much time to play.
Sometimes you only want to play for 10-30 mins and if you spend half that time installing/patching/upgrading your game then the fun goes away.

I love that we get to bitch no matter what.

1) Game was delayed to work out bugs? FUCK THAT!

2) Game was released but might need patches or updates. FUCK THAT!

3) Hardware is too slow to keep up with loading? FUCK THAT!

4) Devs recognized hardware is too slow and game pre-caches? FUCK THAT!

I think I'd rather wait 5 minutes for an install instead of a month for my repaired unit to come back...again.

(I own all the systems though.)

We should have special avatars or something that show our ownership so that we are allowed to bash at will

Installs cut down on load time, so while the install time might suck, it is better than having to load off disc every time.

Weren't tests with a cross platform game (DMC4 maybe?) show that it barely reduced load times at all? I'm sure drive speeds vary too so it isn't a direct comparison, but still kinda sucks.

Yep. Why can't all games be like GoldenEye on N64? No delays. No updates. Loading is near non-existent.

It's all about quotas, deadlines and stockholders nowadays.

My first gaming system (C64) would take a half an hour to load (casette tapes), so we've got it good now!

Well, it will depend on how the developer uses the space. I guess i should rephrase to it should cut down on load times.
