Which One Should I get First Wii or Playstation 3?

Everyone hates the question which is better. I like them both so I am getting them both eventually.

I like the PS3 has Blue Ray and the 80 GB Hard Drive and my list of games are smaller. Been doing some reseach and There are maybe about 5 really wanted PS3 plus it is compatible with PS2 which is what got me hooked to the Playstation was the PS2. Playing Smackdown vs Raw, 24 the game, Spider-Man 2 was really what got me to stepping out of the Nintendo Games

With the Wii I had to do research and since I grew up with Mario and Nintendo. I got a NES as my first console like everyone mostly did. Then The SNES then N64 I played some great games and really grew to like Nintendo. I like that the Wii has the points to where you can play older games on the systems I use to have. I see trailers and think I like more Games in the Wii. Lugi's Mansion, Mario's Galaxy, Smah Brothers, Mario Kart

The Wii for Nintendo is more expensive at Wal-Mart.com which is where I will buy both of them becuase I get a discount but it is more expensive. The Wii offers 5 games at my choice which is good because I can select most the games I want anyway are in that list.

The PS3 has the Blue Ray which I am real eager to see the new technolgy in higher def. Plus Grand Theft Auto and some other Games.

It might take me like 1 month or 1 month in a half before I can get both but which in my case should be the first I should get?

Whichever one it is need to occupy me for the month and a half before I get the other system?

I'd get whatever games you want to play now and right away. For you, sounds like the Wii.

RTisBetter 08-03-08 02:53 AM

Get the Wii. After that get an Xbox360 if you don't have one.

Fuck the PS3. It's an expensive console with few worthy games for it.

Michael Corvin 08-03-08 04:48 AM

I have to agree with RT although it may be considered a threadcrap. From the sounds of your post you are about the games vs. tech features. The 360 has the largest and best library this gen, thus gets my vote. Then a Wii.

nemein 08-03-08 05:55 AM

I like the PS3 has Blue Ray
Stop right there, that's all you need to know. Personally I skip the Wii and put the money towards helping purchase a nice TV/receiver if you don't already have them. I somewhat agree w/ the previous two poster and recommend getting a 360 (if you don't already have one)... not sure I understand the hatred towards the PS3 though.

That was really uncalled for. Console bashing is not tolerated on this forum.

Going by your post, I don't think you could do wrong either way (if you'll have both in a couple of months time, there really is no way to go wrong). The only thing that would make me lean towards a PS3 is PSN, which has some really awesome looking downloadable games on it.

Chris_D 08-03-08 08:15 AM

6 weeks doesn't seem like a long time to me. Get whichever I would say.

Also, you should do some research on which PS3 models have backwards compatibility.

Anubis2005X 08-03-08 08:31 AM

I was a big Nintendo fan, never had anything else. But I ended up getting a PS3 in addition to my Wii this generation. Now, the Wii is collecting dust. I'll play something on it once in a blue moon, but overall, the PS3 destroys it in terms of features. I love the thing!

The Wii is good for Nintendo's franchises, but everything else I get for PS3.

Drexl 08-03-08 08:37 AM

Yeah, I really don't think it matters which one you get first. I don't see either one getting a price drop soon, so just pick one.

Maybe if I was leaning towards one or the other, I'd get whichever one is harder to find. Most people would say that's the Wii, but isn't the 80GB PS3 (with backwards compatibility, that is) being phased out?

Whatever you do, make sure you get the appropriate cables at Monoprice, soon. You'll need component for the Wii (it's the special cable, remember) and HDMI for the PS3. Get them both at once to save on shipping. No, you don't absolutely need these cables to play, but I personally consider them a requirement for today's games.

Seems to be a toss-up to me based on the OP's comments. From a purely financial point of view, I would recommend buying a Wii first. The Wii isn't going anywhere (price-wise). The PS3 regularly undergoes "hidden" price drops (by increasing drive size) and is more likely to see some actual price drops happen within the next 6-12 months.

Besides, once you get a PS3, you'll probably want to fully exploit the multimedia capabilities as well and that means an external USB harddrive, internal harddrive, and a PSP. ;)

RichC2 08-03-08 09:11 AM

Honestly, I'd say get the Wii first, you should be able to find several games to hold your fancy for a while (Mario Galaxy, Metroid Corruption, Geometry Wars: Galaxies, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Virtual Console, Wii Sports, Trauma Center, Okami, Resident Evil 4, the GC back library etc; ) unfortunately most 3rd party developers still haven't gotten the hang of developing for the damn thing and use it more as a dumping ground than viable sales platform.

The PS3 and X360 are both quality gaming platforms with bonus a/v addons. At this point, I'd recommend a 360 (at $299) over a PS3 w/ BC ($499), though I do like my PS3 a lot (I just don't game on it much).

what is the difference between the XBox 360 and the Wii

Doesn't the Wii play games with the Xbox 360?

No offense, but is that a serious question? They are completely different systems. The 360 is from Microsoft while the Wii is from Nintendo.

PHMustang2000 08-03-08 10:37 AM

I just took a quick look at XBox 360's game and nothing really looked interesting to me. I guess I am still figuring out Wii vs PS3

mdc3000 08-03-08 11:49 AM

Get the blu-ray player...er...I mean the PS3. (360 has almost all of the same games as ps3 - metal gear/ratchet and clank withstanding, but for just gaming, I have to give it to Xbox, with Wii a distant second). I love my PS3, but almost NEVER play games on it.

PHMustang2000 08-03-08 12:32 PM

The only thing is I have no HDTV. I do in the living room but that is always on CNN with the family. I won't have the HDTV to myself to watch Blu Ray or play games on eithier console. So I have to buy eithier the Wii or the PS3 then the next system and hook it up to a standard TV in my room. After I buy the 2nd Console...I save up for the HDTV to put in my room. I won't be able to see the higher def until after both consoles are bought.

RichC2 08-03-08 12:47 PM

Get the Wii.

darkside 08-03-08 12:55 PM

Even without an HDTV I would side with the PS3. For gaming I use my PS3 about 80% of the time compared to the Wii that sits for months at a time without being turned on. The Wii has a few really good titles, but overall has no where near the variety of games the PS3 has. PS3 also has a much better selection of games on PSN compared to the mostly weak offerings on WiiWare.

Arthur Dent 08-03-08 01:20 PM

I love my PS3. With my Wii, it's almost a daily debate that I have with myself over whether or not I should sell it. A big part of me wants to sell it, but the system has given me RE4 with awesome controls, Mario Galaxy, and Zelda. Just wish there was some more worthwhile stuff on the horizon.

nodeerforamonth 08-03-08 01:26 PM

How come everyone is saying "get the wii" and yet only ONE person out of 20 voted for "getting the wii"?!?! -confused-

tlwizard 08-03-08 02:24 PM

I say get the PS3.

I grew up on Nintendo myself. Have a Wii. Love the Wii. In general, I find myself alone playing the PS3 more. But I definitely play the Wii when people come over or for by myself every now and then.

But, especially if you like PS2 games... the PS3s with any types of backwards compatibility (the ability to play the PS2 games) are being phased out. I don't know if you could find an original 60gb there at Wal-mart, but your last chance of getting a somewhat backwards compatible PS3 will be the Metal Gear Solid 4 version of the PS3 console.

So get the good PS3 while you can. The Wii will always be the Wii. But both are great systems that I'm happy to have in my home.

Maybe he only wants systems not guaranteed to break :rimshot:

I would recommend NOT getting any BR titles until you have an HDTV to watch them on. You will be sorely disappointed in BR if not watching on an HDTV.

Does not compute. :D I don't see how that is possible when 98% of their libraries are identical. Outside of that, the 360 has far more exclusives than what the PS3 currently offers(outside of MGS4 none have blown anyone away, lots of good games, not a lot of GREAT games). Not only that but their Live/PSN offerings are quite different. While an argument could be made for quality over quantity on PSN, the sheer number of options on Live is impressive. Lastly if you plan on getting into music games, instrument compatibility is more friendly on the 360.

Anyway I never answered the question legitimately. Tough call since you don't have a HDTV. I'd save up for the TV first and then get a PS3. If you can't wait that long then get the Wii in the meantime.
