Wii Virtual Console - How do I earn Points?

I may be asking beginner questions but I couldn't find a solid answer anywhere. I am getting the Wii soon and now I know you can get games from the former NES, SNES, SEGA AND N64 but I know it is all through points. I looked it up the NES Games are usually 500 - 600 games. SNES is amout 800 points, N64 is 1000 points. Sega is 800 points.

This may be a stupid question but how do you earn the points? Gameplay or something?

When I get my Wii soon I am interested in the

NES
Mario Bros
Pac-Man
Super Mario Bros
Super Mario Bros 2
TMNT

SNES
Super Mario World

N64
Mario Kart 64
Super Mario 64
Star Fox 64
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Sega
Ecco The Dolphin: The Tides of Time
Sonic THe Hedgehog
Tojam and Earl

I grew up with Nintendo and what they have available these are the games I played back in the day. Also how often do they add new titles?

I got all my information from

500 points = $5

So you earn 'em the old fashioned 9-5 way.

I like your idea better though.

They sell 2000 Wii Points cards ($20) wherever videogames are sold. Or you can buy the points with a credit card through the Wii itself by logging onto the Wii Shop channel.

Buying it through the Wii is a better idea since you won't have to pay sales tax.

You do save gas/time by buying through the console though.
