I've got to say, this game is slightly pissing me off. Been through Normal and Nightmare mode now. Not once have I received a legendary drop. I know people who have received a legendary drop twice on Nightmare. Now I know this is part of the randomness of the game, but damn it, if you shouldn't at least get something for beating Diablo.

I think the better drops come from the elites rather than end bosses. I think this was to limit the end boss runs that became a staple of D2.

this discouraging thing is, once you do get a legendary it is rather useless because it will be weaker than your other gear.

legendary loot should be...well, legendary.

got my first legendary to drop yesterday, and actually got 2 on the same day! both were useless, as i got them in normal, but it was nice to have them.

I got a legendary item when I killed the butcher on normal. It was useless but I still have it.

I have always said that in a game that generates anything random, that the chance of getting something should slowly increase the longer you play. If the chance of getting a legendary item is .01%...that chance should increase every 10 hours or so until you actually get a legendary. Once you receive one, it resets that chance. This way, someone who pumps 100 hours into the game and still has not received a legendary at least knows the longer they play they greater the chance.

re: Diablo III + Reaper of Souls (multi-platform)

Can somebody tell me how the auction house works? I'm flabbergasted here.

I go into the auction house and see an item I'm interested in. It said the current bid was like $15,000. I click bid and it asks for my maximum bid. I type in $36,000 since that was all the gold I had. It then said something like "your bid is not high enough" or "you're not winning the auction" or something like that and then all my gold was gone. I'm currently sitting at 0 gold. When I look at the auction tab I see the item I bid on and it says my bid and then the current high bid, which was like $38,000. Ummm...last I checked, if you get outbid at an auction you don't still have to pay what you bid even though it didn't win. What's the deal?

I know it is stupid, but after you fail a bid, you have to go to the completed tab in the auction house and send your money back to your stash...you did not lose your money, it just goes into limbo until you click on it...

Also, if you only have 38,000 gold, I would say a better plan to improve yourself is set the buyout limit to about 5000, and search for items that are better than you currently have. It is better to find 5 items 5000 each than one item for 39,000.....

Ahh...thanks a lot dude. It never crossed my mind to do that. I just got my gold back so thanks again.

I obviously have no idea how to play this game. I was looking through the forums and see all kinds of posts about players DPS being in the thousands. One guy was complaining that his DPS was only 11,000 and wanted to get it up to 25,000. Currently my DPS is 28. At least that's what it says on my profile screen. It was actually at like 30 and then I equipped some items that I thought were better but my DPS actually went down. I'm not much of a gamer, but I've gotten the impression that "Normal" mode is basically the tutorial, but I'm having a lot of problems even on normal mode. I've died dozens of times. Right now I'm on Act 2. I'm a level 17 Barbarian and I just don't know what I'm doing wrong. I feel like I should just start over, but I don't know what I'd do differently other than maybe choose a different class. I still don't have any clue how to increase my DPS though.

Your DPS is fine for your level. I happened to have a level 17 barbarian as well, and my DPS is the same (a little less, in fact). The people with huge DPS are level 60 folks running Inferno.

When you hover over an item it'll tell you the effect the item will have on your character, including how it'll affect damage. For a barbarian, items with increased strength are great because they increase your armor class and your DPS.

Hmm. That's surprising to me. I guess I knew that those super high DPS's were Inferno studs. I have no intention of getting that far. I'd just like to beat the game on Normal. I just don't seem to be very good at this game and thought I was WAY behind for my level. It's good to know that I'm not necessarily lagging behind but I'm still no good at this game. I can't imagine I should be dying as often as I currently am.

Then you're going to hit inferno and realize that dps isn't going to save you lol

I had to churn down my dps to start working on vitality, defense and resistances.

what are your resistances...hitpoints...and armor? What would you suggest?

Currently I have 27,000 dps....about 35,000 hitpoints...my armor is I think about 3800...and my resistances are all 300 (so near 50% reduction on all resistances)...how much more do you think I am going to need? I am worried about inferno with all the shit I hear...

My resistances aren't all that high, but my HP are sitting at 75k with my earth elemental and my mending with the vitality rune. Armor is about 5k and my dps is around 13k I think. Inferno isn't super hard solo honestly, the hardest part are the yellows and blues, some of the combinations are impossibly hard. They also regen very quickly when you die so you have to get back to them quickly or risk them getting back all their hp. Not only that, but they all have 4 stats on them, wait until you see one with Horde. I changed to a 1 hander and a shield as the second hand is mostly just a stat stick for the most part and with my shield and one hander I have something like 300 vitality and 300 dex.

I'm on your friends list so you should be able to see my gear and spec.

Just keep buying cheap high dps weapons from the AH every few levels and you shouldn't have any issues with dps.

Did you buy a ton of crap on the AH? I am a level 59 Witch Doctor with only 9k dps and 20K hp. I am too cheap to spend more than 3k gold per item in the ah. I am waiting till I hit 60 to buy crap.

I'm confused by this. How is this calculated? Like, I have a weapon right now that's 196.3 DPS. I'm 4 levels below you on Hell at 52. I don't see how there can be such a disparity unless there's something I'm missing.

Edit: Maybe it's the INT level that's a multiplier?
