I am also confused with the lack of "Pork & Beans". Given these a quick listen via Youtube and not completely impressed, however I'll keep an open mind. Troublemaker sounds the best to me, but the others will probably grow on me.

EDIT: Of note though is that we'll be getting 17 new songs next week! We haven't seen that much since launch, but have been seeing more than 3 for the past month and a half or so.

rabbit77 06-20-08 08:57 PM

So I started messing around with score duel... do you get credit for a win if the other player quits?

pinata242 06-20-08 09:18 PM

I don't think so, no. But you can quit and not break your streak. We all know how much you'll need that info, rabbit.

I'd like to somewhat retract or at least alter the tone of my comments in the previous thread. I bitched about the choices for bands in DLC for RB; the next day I browsed the GHIII DLC on Live. Though RB might not have as high a percentage of "big names" (though that is changing), and they're a little weak on one of my favorite genres (80's rock/metal), for sheer quantity of content, RB beats the crap out of GHIII. Not all of them are solid platinum hits, but there's much better odds of getting tracks I like with the volume RB is making available. Since they don't call me and say "Hey, what songs do you want to play in Rock Band?" I'd rather they do as many as possible for me to check out.

I know there are compability issues between the various versions of RB/GH instruments, and this is probably entirely hypothetical--but *should* the instruments be compatible with each other's game? As a consumer, I would love if they were, and were compatible with future RB/GH games. I would not mind getting GHIII, and I'd like to have the option to get GHIV, but there's only so many single-purpose plastic toy instruments I have in the house, much less the living room. It seems to be that making the instruments cross compatible would be beneficial to all involved.

Newest RB wishtrack: Megadeth, In My Darkest Hour (thanks to my ipod's shuffle mode selecting this blast from the past).

ohhhh, how about Countdown to Extinction

I would also like Weird Al (probably won't ever happen though)
Veruca Salt pack (Eight Arms to Hold You was an amazing album)
Lets get a looooooong and very old, but awesome song here

Helloween - Keeper of the seven keys

You're the Keeper of the Seven Keys
That lock up the seven seas
And the Seer of Visions said before he went blind
Hide them from demons and rescue mankind
Or the world we're all in will soon be sold
To the thone of the evil payed with Lucifer's gold

Also for people who want a singing challenge, lets get some

Tenacious D
Korn

I don't care what anyone says, Jack Black, and Johnathan Davis are amazing singers and can do tones and sounds with their voice that sound hard as hell.

discostu1337 06-21-08 02:40 AM

Ugh, why Red Album Weezer? I'll get Troublemaker maybe...

xmiyux 06-21-08 05:42 AM

I agree with Glass and some humorous rock like Weird Al or Tenacious D would be awesome. The problem with Tenacious D though would be songs that maintain their T rating.

I know you don't care what I say, ;) but Jack Black does have an amazing voice.

well that's disappointing... I can't get through and finish a damn song. At least give the person who didn't drop credit for a win.

At least it doesn't take forever to find a match.

That's been one of the big complaints for folks who play online. This is something that should've been fixed a while ago.

Addressed? It shouldn't even be a concern this day and age. You quit, you get the loss and the opponent gets the win. No question. Should be like that in every game built into the first pressing of a disc. I haven't even ventured online in this game, mostly because of it.

On a related note, could you imagine hopping on just to have a little fun only to get matched up against Rabbit?

tonyc3742 06-21-08 10:45 AM

Agreed. I'm not great, but I don't quit (even though I've gotten two negs for allegedly quitting). Especially a game like RB, where the longest match is what, 8 minutes if that?
And it's amazing how many of the people who quit against me are "Pro" with 25K+ gamerscore.

I completely agree. I'm just saying that since it wasn't, it should have been fixed soon after. At first, I figured that it was because of network concerns, with them fearing that diconnections would be high as the kinks got worked out. Obviously, this wasn't the case.

I think Harmonix says that while wins and losses don't apply to quitting, players' "Trueskill" ratings are affected. The problem, of course, is that there aren't achievements built around Trueskill. If folks are gunning for consecutive wins and run into rabbit, the system in place rewards them for quitting and keeping their streak intact.

I also haven't even tried score duels because of it.

dvdsteve2000 06-21-08 02:17 PM

Halo 3 burns your ass if you quit a ranked game, and the same should go for Rock Band. I quit playing online because everytime that I am winning, the other guy quits. I'm not bad (last tier of expert on guitar), but if I'm getting my ass handed to me, I at least finish the song.

pinata242 06-21-08 04:40 PM

Only one time when I was battling online did this one dude stay through the whole song even though he was dominated. I noticed he just stopped playing, but let the song finish. I highly respected that.

Michael Corvin 06-21-08 05:27 PM

It's sad that playing the game as it was intended garners respect.

I forgot who posted their Van Halen guitar a while back, but I was inspired and made this one a few months back. I was bored and thought I'd share:

I. Want. That.

Sweet lookin axe! I'm hosting an outdoor rock band party next weekend and need to dress up my LP.

Anyone have any tips on how to rack up points in the "jam" part at the end? I always get outscored by a few thousand. I was up by a thousand against this level 40 dude at the end of the song but he out-jammed me at the end which was a bummer.

I'd guess you were up against someone playing on a Strat with the solo buttons, which come in handy for the Big Rock Endings. But here's a thread from RB.com where they talk about getting the most out of either guitar during the big finishes:

Awesome thanks.

Downloaded the Weezer pack and am enjoying it... however if you're playing Greatest Man on guitar, get ready for lots of standing around doing nothing (which isn't much of a surprise) but damn if singing that one isn't fun as hell.

pinata242 06-24-08 10:22 AM

Gah, what's the holdup with the DLC update? There's only like 17 or 18 tracks to do...

I'm sure the DLC video pioneers weren't really looking forward to today :)

GoVegan 06-24-08 10:28 AM

I'd already played all of Doolittle on guitar by 5:45 this morning. This is the first time I've been enticed into downloading new tracks before work, and I came really close to calling in sick.

Some of these songs are amazingly short. They'll be a nice addition to random setlists which contain some of the backbreaking ten minute songs.

I've been holding off on updating the DLC post until everything was up.. I'll go ahead and update for what I have (still missing Weezer drums).
