I'm hoping that the Monday news is big, and that they're just holding onto it until after GH is released so their news is newer and overshadows it. I mean, not to be a fanboy, but I already have Rock Band, and don't plan on getting GH, so for purely selfish reasons I'd like an awesome announcement.

DaveWadding 06-27-08 02:36 PM

Free is always the right price.

Shagrath 06-27-08 03:27 PM

This pack definitely could've been better, but they seem to be doing a lot of promotional-type stuff lately. And since all of that has been at a discounted price, I'm not going to complain too much.

As for the Monday announcement, I have no clue. I'm going to guess that they'll let us know what the next batch of albums is going to be, or less likely, when another patch is due.

Mok 06-27-08 05:36 PM

I love the free song, but the Crüe song sounds to slow. Why can't we get Kick Start My Heart.

I keep waiting for a full album from Crue to appear on RB.

Either:
Shout at the Devil
Girls Girls Girls
Dr. Feelgood

Papa Roach and Trapt are guilty pleasure bands of mine, so I'm getting both of those, although I guess that Trapt song must be new because I've never heard of it...but that Papa Roach song should be a lot of fun to sing anyhow....

Yeah.. Not really a fan of either band, but I agree that they should be fun to play. Guitar does seem a little boring on the Papa Roach song, but hopefully it'll be decent on drums and vocals sound good. I'll be getting all four next week, more than likely.

I want them to select music for Rock Band that is actually good for the game, I'm sick of this crap of trying to make it a promotional platform. The sad fact is that any music that needs to be 'promoted' isn't that good in the first place...IMO.

Looks like I won't be downloading anything next week, including the free one.

Agreed. I have no problem if they choose to release promotional stuff, but damnit...tie it in with the songs that made the band famous in the first place.

Even though the first song was above average, it is extremely disturbing that we have two Motley Crue songs and they are both from post plastic surgery 40 year old versions of the band.

More Kotaku rumors for your consumption. Go Go Gadget Grain of Salt!

Oft-requested Aussie rockers AC/DC may be one of the artists coming to Rock Band 2, according to details from an online survey forwarded to us by a reader. The survey boasted of "120 of the biggest rock anthems from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s" including "songs from gods of rock like AC/DC and many, many others."

Other details provided by the survey promised improved "instruments, character creation, and online play" noting that drums would see some sort of undisclosed improvement.

Descriptions of the sequel to the original Rock Band also note that players will have the option to "develop and personalize artwork and apparel in the game, which you can then order as actual merchandise to be mailed to you." Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos talked up some of those features something we've seen little of in reality.

Michael Corvin 06-28-08 12:36 PM

120 is damn impressive... although that will be lessened depending on the number of cover tunes and/or they are including Harmonix employee bands.

AC/DC would be pretty fucking sweet. I still think due to all the promo shit they have been putting up recently they are securing the good stuff from those bands that people actually want for RB2.

I'm leaning against believing 120 until it's somewhere official, but yeah, it would be nice to see some AC/DC and other big stuff in RB2. Releasing it all DLC would have been nice, but as I think you've mentioned before, it doesn't work when you aren't the only band game in town.

Tarantino 06-28-08 01:14 PM

I'd like to have played Headstrong by Trapt and Last Resort by Papa Roach. Other than that, nothing from those bands that interests me.

= J

I got my Pixies, so I'm good. -biggrin-

Humorous that having merchandise produced with your band name and logo is being hyped for RB2. It was also mentioned a bit as the hype for the first Rock Band as well.

I think that mention from Kotaku is actually about the first game. I rarely believe anything I read there unless it's verified by the developer or another more well-respected site (IGN, GameSpot). "kotaku" used to be banned at other gaming forums I frequent, due to their frequent misinformation.

Would be great to get the Back in Black album, not sure I'd need the whole AC/DC discography though. Although some Bon Scott stuff would be nice. Another band where I wouldn't want any recent music though, personally, which is kind of sad I guess.

How recent are we talking? Since 1994 they've only had two albums, Ballbreaker and Stiff Upper Lip(3 if you count the one coming out in the fall). Ballbreaker is a damn good album. So personally in the past 14 years they've had one bad album.

dvdsteve2000 06-28-08 07:16 PM

Instead of albums, I wish they'd do a 'greatest hits' pack of like 6 songs. The Judas Priest pack would've sold tons more if they had Livin after midnight, heads are gonna roll, turbo lover, green manalishi, etc... ACDC would kill with a greatest hits pack, though it would be tough to limit it to six (or eight, or twelve, etc...) songs. Albums are nice, but the majority of folks don't know an album from front to back.

IGN's got the skinny on Rock Band 2. I haven't read it yet, but I'll post some of the important stuff in here in a bit.

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/885/885168p1.html
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/885/885167p1.html

- Available in September for 360, later this year for PS3.
- DLC is backwards compatible.
- New DLC will still be able to be played with Rock Band 1.
- New ways to play DLC (custom setlists, full album perhaps)
- Online BWT confirmed.
- New more reliable instruments
- Old instruments will still work
- Deeper BWT experience
- New feature for people who want to sing and play guitar simultaneously
- Currently at 15 million paid downloads for DLC!
- More than one of these (Agent Orange, The Beatles, Built to Spill, The Buzzcocks, Journey. Led Zeppelin, Modest Mouse, Pavement, The Replacements, Tool) is on the Rock Band 2 disc.
- All songs are masters.

Looks like a bunch of good stuff. Also nice that they're making it fairly optional to upgrade. If you only care about new songs, then you can still continue to just get the weekly DLC. But if you want a bunch of new features (basically a giant patch with a bunch of new on-disc songs), then grab this.

You should start a Rock Band 2 thread instead

Rock Band is a platform. Anyone who's interested in Rock Band in general should be seeing this thread already.

Still kinda odd that PS3 will be getting the shaft again. I own all three, but RB is 360 based in my house, so I don't really care, but you would think they'd have it figured out by now. Sucks for PS3 RB owners.

That's an awfully long article that doesn't really say much. Basically what Shaggy posted is the only decent news out of four pages of interview. Looking forward to E3. It's going to be fun seeing the GH and RB camps trying to one-up each other.

What I gathered from the interview is that making cross-platform DLC is a little easier in the 360 front, and therefore the reason why they're getting it out a little earlier. I don't think the timed exclusive is going to be more than a month or two.

Also, this site says that it's getting simu-releasued in Europe this time around.

I haven't really heard of this site, so don't know how reliable it is.

xmiyux 06-30-08 07:01 AM

Assuming they sell the disc alone then i will be all over this. I could always use some more songs :D
