Good point. I've never installed a multi-disc game, but I assume it's possible?

And along the same lines : You would put the first disc in to play the game after install, no matter where you were in the story, right?

Good point. It would suck if you still had to change discs even after the install. rotfl

I'm annoyed enough at Sony right now that I'd rather switch discs than buy the PS3 version.

You will have to still swap discs.

Mass Effect 2 did this.

Dead Space 2 did this.

Castlevania apparently did this even though I remember a pre-release article that said it would work the way you guys are hoping this will. I haven't played it but someone here (superfro?) said it still required a disc swap.

I can't imagine L.A. Noire being any different. I'll still install all 3 discs to the hard drive as with every other game, but I just won't be thrilled about 20GB being devoted to a single, non-Rock-Band game.

Re: Whatever happened to LA Noire? -here's some info

I still get a chuckle out of bitching about swapping discs. It's not like you're going to play through it in one sitting. It'll only happen one or two times per 20+ hour game. You probably should get up every so often anyway to at least piss in the toilet (or empty your Mountain Dew bottle). If all else fails, have your wife or kid do it.

Also, at Buy.com it's $15/disc! Try to get that value out of Gears of War 3

Can't remember how Castlevania worked out. I don't see any way you wouldn't have to swap discs, but what do I know.

I honestly have never understood who cares about swapping discs anyway. If you're playing a multiple hour long game and can't be bothered to get up a couple of times after 8-10+ hours to change a disc then you have serious issues.

I don't like disc-switching when it disrupts play.

[PLEASE SWAP DISCS]

Mass Effect 2 it was as you traveled to a new story point.

Dead Space 2 it was during an elevator ride.

I don't know why you think this will go Seacrest all over you.

What game made you switch discs in the middle of something super important? I don't see the big deal. ME2 wasn't a big deal, nor was Final Fantasy 13.

Though I fully expect to "go Seacrest" all over this game!

So the PS3 version is one disc and has extra content? Switching my pre-order to PS3.

A single case from the traffic desk, yes. But you have to download it.

No problem, you just log onto PSN and....

and.....

God dammit.

Re: Whatever happened to LA Noire? -here's some info

Even if I can't access the additional content for months, it's still worth it to only have one disc, because Groucho informed me that the disc switching happens at crucial moments, when breaking the narrative would be disastrous for the game experience.

So, having been mostly out of the videogame loop for a couple of months, what's the best possible deal on this?

If it's Amazon's $59.99 with a $10 credit, I may just wait for a price drop. I've learned the virtues and benefits of patience when it comes to these things.

Also, with Castlevania the first half of the game's levels were on disc 1, and the second half were on disc 2, which worked out fine for a straight playthrough. The problem came when you wanted to go back to pick up collectibles and do the level-specific challenges. A lot of disc-swapping was involved if you wanted to skip around, but I wasn't really bothered by it.

Re: Whatever happened to LA Noire? -here's some info

I'm opting for the GameCube version, which is spread across only 27 discs.

Buy.com has it for $44.99 shipped.

I wonder if the new xbox disc format had come out in time for this, if it'd be down to just two.

I am so glad that GoHastings agreed to ship this out at the $29.99 price they had it at for a while way back in early December. I just hope that I get it not too long after it is released.

It's only 1 single layer br disc, meh, we've seen higher. I think god of war was on a dual later clocking in at alike 45 gigs, and FFXIII at 48 gigs. However the only difference between the 2 versions of FFXIII aside from the amount of discs on the 360 was uprezed videos I think.
