Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
Is it just me or are the graphical hiccups outdoors almost gamebreaking? The pop-in is abysmal. I'm on disc one (installed the game) and I have no desire to drive around the city because everything is so glitchy looking.

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
Really? Looks great on the PS3. Guess it's a good thing I switched consoles.

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
Oh jeez. That is utterly insufferable.

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
i haven't noticed any of that on my xbox copy.

Deftones - are you installed or no? I might try deleting the install and booting from disc. |
Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
That's bizarre. Hopefully I should know something with my copy in three hours. Stupid kids...
|
Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
not installed. playing off the disc.
|
Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
I've had both disc 1 and 2 installed, not a single glitch or freeze yet in 10 hours of play. it's a slim 250gb XBOX if that matters.
|
Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
I just deleted it, ran it off the disc and it was still there.
|
Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
Ok, looks like some people on the XBOX.com forums have the same issue.
Hopefully it gets fixed ASAP. I know Rockstar was great about fixing strange issues with RED DEAD on release, like disappearing weapons and character heads in a speedy fashion. |
Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
Ugh. Rockstar support pulls out the old "maybe your system is dying" routine. So I put in RED DEAD at their suggestion, ran it off the disc for two minutes and not a single graphical hiccup.
|
Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
I went the K Mart deal as well and picked up Rock Band 3 (360) for the free game. Question though, should there be a sticker on the front for the DLC or was that specific stores only?
|
Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
That was for specific stores. The one I got at Gamestop had a sticker.

You say there's no refunds for it. Make it clear it's for the code only in both the description and title. Don't use a stock game case for your photo.
Also, people are as likely to be stupid as assholey, so YMMV. |

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
I returned the copy to Best Buy.
Ran the new game off the disc: same problem. Installed it: same problem. I hate to think it is my 360 ready to die, because it's out of warranty. Strange thing is, other people on the XBox.com forums are reporting the same issue. I guess I could sell this console off while it still works and get a new 250gig one, but I still think this is an issue Rockstar is trying to shove under the table. |
Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
Ok, I said I wasn't going to post any impressions for a while but screw it......It's a great game but I am some what let down a tad by how linear it is. I know, it was to be expected but there literally isn't one break in the game.
Graphically, the city is perfect what they are trying to pull off and obviously some chopping had to be done for the motion scan....it still looks great but again...I am not sure of the purpose of putting some much detail into it if all you ever do is speed by everything. The motion scan is excellent and is definitely not a gimmick. I suck at interrogating but I'm getting better and I do like it. Searching for clues.....I hate it, it's annoying and kinda takes away from the game play...plus its frustrating constantly being on top of something but since you're not right where you have to be you can't pick up the evidence. This games also has the best chase sequences ever and the final shootout before you reach the red lipstick murder case (where I finished playing tonight) is epic. But with all that said....I'm kinda bummed that there won't be much replay value for me unless there is something I'm missing and there are placed you can explore in this game. I also, at this point would not buy any DLC for the game.....I just don't think I will last that long. It deserves the highest rating possible because it took a lot of balls to release a game like this....it could have been terrible but they really did pull it off and it is unlike any game I've ever played before. I am also NOT having any glitch problems at all so far either so here's hoping for the best. That's it for now....oh and one more thing....the sound in this game is unbelievably well done. |

Anyway, I think the real replay value here is going to be in doing the cases again to get perfect scores. |

It's a constant problem. I dig this game. A lot. The facial work is incredibly well done and really helps make the characters seem less zombie-like (although does anyone want to wager on DLC zombies at some point?). You'll get to a point where you realize you're not exactly doing that much as far as using a controller goes, but I don't mind. The acting and story so far are top notch. I suck at interrogating, and the Millionaire-esque lifelines are odd. But really... exploding barrels? Really?? |
Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
I'm about 2.5 hours in, with 6 of 21 story cases completed, according to the stats page in the options menu. So far I am very happy with it. Once I figured out the difference between "doubt" and "lie" (doubt = "I think you're lying or hiding something but I have no proof", lie = "you're lying and I can prove it with evidence"), it became a lot more enjoyable. So far I've missed at least one clue or gotten one interrogation question wrong in each case, but making mistakes sort of fits with the game's approach. If you find the important evidence and get the important questions right, you'll still solve the case and feel pretty good about it. I also like how the post-case summary screen lets you know some of what you missed or might have been able to do differently.

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
Oh, and I'm playing on the 360, not installed, and I haven't seen any graphical weirdness.
|
Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
No problems for me on the 360, also installed, 360S only a year old.
I knew this game was going to be linear based on the nature of it. I'm getting exactly what I expected and it's still amazing. I rocked the first real case, but it was so cliche, it's not even funny. The second one I totally shit the bed running around accusing people without the evidence  I immediately turned off the musical and vibration clues at the beginning too. Even in the tutorial, I knew I wouldn't want that hand-holding taking away from the experience. The driving isn't that bad to control, but the problem is the length of the trips and the lack of route marking (that I can see). It's too hard to pause to get to the map to plan your own route. There was one point where I turned from 3rd & Hill onto 2nd heading South(?) to Alameda and I was on top of a tunnel so I had to take the car down some stairs, but it made me laugh :) It's inconsistent because I don't want to let my partner drive to my waypoints because I don't want to miss anything like landmarks, street crimes, or hidden cars, but actually driving around is tedious already. Speaking of the street crimes, I wish they'd be more clear about "incapacitate" or "subdue" meaning "kill the fuck out of". Just like in RDR, I have the problem of actually trying to disarm or hobble my mark instead of Navy Seal Team 6ing them and therefore failing multiple times. I'm not going to go into the detail about the performance-capturing, but I will say that I absolutely loved running into Bob Clendenin and recognizing him immediately. |

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
This game is like an abusive spouse. I love it so much, I'm willing to shell out for a new console just to play it, rather than just ride this thing out until it dies completely.

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
I played for a few hours last night and am really loving the game. No crazy glitches on my Xbox (I did not install the game on the HD).

But, yeah, driving is tedious. Especially since you're a cop and aren't supposed to wreak havoc while doing so. That said, rarely do I wait at a red light. :) |

I want a 70s and 80s version of this game. A 70s Blaxploitation epic, and then Vice City Detectives. |

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
Well after playing about 4 hrs last night I love the game. Someone mentioned earlier about the difference between lie and doubt and was totally correct. In between cases I have killed time by driving around the city and jumping in different cars to try to get to the 95 on the list. I believe I'm around 38 now. The chases are great. I was running after a guy and he hide behind a corner and he closed lined me
Does anyone know how to shut off the radio in the car? Also on the Map I went to the camera icon which are supposed to be Landmarks but when I went there nothing happened. I am guessing you have to do them in some order? |
Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
When you drive by a landmark, the camera icon shows up on the map meaning you've found it. It has a thing in the upper-left of the screen telling you to "Hold B to focus on the landmark". I've come across 5 or so in my driving around town.
|
Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
Absolutely no graphical issues on my Xbox360 either. I played for about 3-4 hours last night so if they do exist, they must come later in the game.
|
Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
I think no one has mentioned this, but when you are driving you can turn on the siren, pushing the left stick I think. That would make all the cars to stop, so you have all the street for yourself.
|
Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
No cars were stopping for me when I had the siren on.
The L stick is also used for the horn in non-police cars...standard GTA controls. |
