And no multiplayer achievements

:thumbsup: Good, though I remember playing multiplayer for the old 3d one and had an absolute blast. But somehow, I don't think i will ever get back that feeling (the only game I could beat my best friend in at the time who was a fps god of sorts. He went on to program video games, lucky bastard). It does look however I will be lucky enough to review this one as our marketing rep has mentioned we will be getting a copy. Shaping up to be awesome, I hope I'm not disapointed. Certainly my most anticipated game of the year, easy.

I went ahead and pre-ordered, I've seen enough to feel comfortable that this will be good.

Am I doing something wrong, or do we have to use our 25 digit access key every time we login to the First Access club?

thanks.

with this level of efficiency, it's no wonder the game took so long.

So after playing through the demo:

The game is extremely dated. It really does feel like it is a N64 game. Graphically it's nothing special either.

On the other hand, I actually played Duke Nukem Forever, and the small part I played in the demo makes we want more. It was fun, and even though it's dated gameplay wise, it's still a change from the endless CoD & Halo clones. I'll most likely be buying.

Re: Duke Nukem Forever Footage

Demo is pretty short, the first half 1/3 of it you don't even really do much. The other part lets you drive around a bit, and then get to try out a bunch of the weapons.

It doesn't look like anything spectacular, but its fun.

Honestly, that's exactly what I want. If it isn't fun, it isn't Duke. (well that XBLA game wasn't really fun anymore after a couple of levels). If I can't make pigs fly, strippers dance and make lewd comments then I'll go play something else. Graphics, smashics.

I played Duke....does not matter if the graphics sucked...or the gameplay was old...I played Duke...

Not a great demo, but it had its moments...

The ads I saw on TV for this make it look like an arcage game. Is that originally what Duke was? But I was not impressed by what I saw. Maybe when it is really cheap in a couple of months.

Duke was originally a 2D action scroller.

And a very good one at that. I think I played and beat all of the three episodes. That's why I was somewhat disapointed by the XBLA game after a few levels because that is what I was expecting.

If anyone wants to download the original and try it, not sure what you need to get it to run.

I was disappointed with the commercials too (the reviews of the demo here aren't helping).

I'll be waiting for a price drop - especially with my backlog of games and the fact that I can't put Tiger Woods 12 down.

Yeah, Duke Nukem 1 and 2 are really old 2D action scrollers from around 1991 or 1992. They were not widely popular. Duke Nukem 3D in 1996 is the one most people are familiar with. 3D was an FPS.

Should work with Dosbox. Ultima IV was released by EA for free download and requires it as well.

Yes, but part of my point was that DN3D wasn't what Duke was "originally", let alone his XBLA incarnation.

That seems like a weird description; what kind of arcade(?) game does it look like?

From the demo, it seems like gameplay wise it's going to be something that will be a 7 or 8 in the reviews, but generally fun to play. To me, it's nice to have an old school run and gun FPS game although I can see newer players having difficulty getting interested in it.

Re: Duke Nukem Forever Footage

The demo definitely felt dated. On the plus side, I'm pretty sure it's the exact same demo from PAX 2010 (last September), so they have theoretically had about about 9 months to polish up the finished product. I think that even if they clean up the rough edges, it'll still play like an older game, but it'll be fun for those with nostalgia for the franchise.

So this is along the lines of Serious Sam with its simple gameplay?
