Probably because of the time it takes to develop an rpg, the last few console launches haven't had any kinds of rpgs available, at least not that I can remember... the last one I do remember is the SNES with Final Fantasy.

Also, the PS2 is cheaper to develop for, more familiar, and is still a great system for non-graphics-intensive rpgs.

It is a bit odd not only that Resistance was an FPS, but that the premiere games for the PS3 launch pretty much came from outside of Japan. I mean, Genji was ok, but Gundam was just atrocious (even though I own it).

I've been on the fence about this decision too. I thought I'd made up my mind to get a 360, but then a friend's 360 RROD'd on him and he said he was sans-xbox for like 6 weeks. I figure if I'm dropping that much money on a system, it better work properly.

Ultimately that's the biggest deterrent from a 360 for me. Even though it has the superior controller (I like the placement of the main analog stick more than day one of the PS controller), the lack of built-in wireless is inexcusable. Blu-ray is another point in the PS3's column, but with the PS3, it'd be like I'm buying a Blu-ray player that happens to play games.

Don't mind me, I'm just thinking out loud.

Red Ring of Death. One of the more common hardware problems with the 360. I believe they have reduced the frequency of this problem with the new chip. You get a free 3 year warranty to cover that problem though so no worries.

If you want a great game library get a 360. If you want Blu support get a PS3. It's that simple.

Red Ring Of Death, for when your 360 dies and has to be shipped off for repair - at least they upped the warranty to 3(?) years, and it's an inconvenience, but there has been a drop in RRODs lately - especially considering GTAIV just came out, and most dead 360s pop up around the launch of a huge game, since that's when people play most.

I hear you but I think it's fair to say if you follow all the forum advice to the letter in terms of getting the right chipset(s) and a recent manufacturing date, then you should end up with a console that's close to reliability of the Wii and PS3. Of course for those of us with older consoles it's tough.

Anyway, if you lived in Japan you can get a 5-7 day turn around I gather, CS guys have a lot of time on their hands over here!

To be fair, the last few posts in the RROD thread mentioned that the turn around time has been far far shorter.

How are you measuring that time? It is impossible to experience an RRoD, phone it in (or submit online), receive a coffin, ship it out, and have it returned in "a little over a week".

I'm assuming he means from shipped til returned. Which is possible in little over a week.

Getting a coffin takes a day or two.

Wow, that's' nuts!

It took them 4 weeks total turn around time for mine (AZ). (Aug/Sept 07) 4 weeks for my brother(NY) (a little later than that), and 4 weeks for my nephew (FL) ( Nov 07)

The turnaround on my RROD was about 4 weeks but I am sure it's way faster now. It's a given that the process gets streamlined when they have had to fix such a high number of consoles. I am sure that MS is producing better units now but there are still far too many problematic ones out in circulation.

I think I've read it has to do with them just gutting your system instead of just dealing with the isolated problem. I, of course, have no idea how accurate that is.

That is astounding.

The only good thing about the RROD was that is allowed me time to catch up on the games I wanted to play on my other systems.

I will be curious to see what system I use more once I get my LCD TV I am shopping for. I've tried the PS3 on a LCD sets and it looks impressive. I hope the 360 can keep up or I may start to buy more PS3 games.

...and that is really why gamers aren't so up in arms about the RROD. Sure it sucks, but MS handled it well. Plus, the 360 came out a year early and a lot of gamers have picked up a second system(Wii, PS3) in that time. So it's hard to bitch when you have another system to play while your console is out for repairs. I imagine it's really not a huge deal to most. Only those with a single system will gripe the loudest.
