Wait, Gamestop owns ThinkGeek? Does this mean I am not allowed to shop there, either? Crap.

"more convenient?" I wonder if even he actually believes that.

When I found that out, it actually did change my perception of ThinkGeek lol

I always thought Think Geek was associated with Penny Arcade before Gamestop bought it. Based on that (mis)information, I've stayed away from TG for years.

What was wrong with PA, aside from being annoying and unfunny?

Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII

I'd been reading (and enjoying) that site for maybe a year when, all of a sudden, it seemed that links to PA merch on Think Geek started popping up everywhere. Then entire posts were dedicated to this shirt or that poster or whatever. All the marketing and selling that hadn't been there before just left a very bad taste.

I know it's cool to hate on Gamestop but if you're taking advantage of promos you can get some great deals. I just traded in Uncharted: Lost Legacy for $34 (more than I paid for it new), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for $56 (more than I paid for it new), along with a handful of other games that were within $5-10 of what I paid for them making them cheap rentals.

Yeah, I'm not watching 15 minutes of that. Does he say anything other than it doesn't compare discount wise to the BB or Amazon programs?

The program is explained in the first 5 minutes or so?

Oh, if you're just talking about the new program, it was posted here earlier. I thought you posted the vid because this guy's analysis had something special.

GameStop Announces Play Pass: $60 For Six Month Used Rentals And Keep A Game At The End.

GameStop is aggressively pushing used games and this time they come up with a new plan. The company is launching a subscription plan called Play Pass.

The new service allows you to rent used games from the company for six months for $60. At the end of your rental period you can keep your last game.

That almost seems like an ok deal on the face of it, but I'm sure there's some fine print fuckery going in that I didn't see. It's not for me, but I could see this working for a lot of people.

I'm finding myself in GameStop more and more these days. I have GCU and would honestly prefer to shop at BB, but I still trade in games all the time, and it takes BB forever to add games to their trade in system.

For example, I wanted to trade Mario + Rabbids two weeks ago, which was something like six weeks after it's release. BB wouldn't take it because it wasn't in the system. I go to GameStop across the street and get 36$ in credit, and that was without any of their memberships.

Ugh. Guy at my local Game Stop was a total d-bag, with a Comic Book Guy attitude. Paid $38 for a used copy that is $20 new at Amazon. And when I asked about using serial #'s on used games (it was Garden Warfare 2, which I think is online-only), he was condescending. I got to stop going to these retail shops and just buy on Amazon. But this was a last-minute gift for my nephew.

It's miserable to interact with people at retail stores. And they wonder why retail is dying. I'd happily shop retail if it were within 10% on pricing, and I didn't have to interact with miserable fucks like that guy.

.

In the fine print you have to be a member of the "Power Up" service

Ah, there it is.

Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII

One potential problem I could see with the Power Pass is that once it becomes popular - since it is based on used game inventory - any decent games they have will be checked out and you'll be stuck picking some crap old games they couldn't sell.

Well that went well  Didn't they think about all of that on the front end before advertising it in the freakin holiday ad?

Anyone have advice on how to get rid of some old consoles?

I've got an Xbox 360, PS3, Kinect, some controllers and other accessories. Normally, I sell stuff on eBay. But I think shipping costs and fees will be more than the item is worth. So I'd like to sell them locally.

Are there any buyers for this stuff on Craigslist? Should I just take the whole pile to Gamestop? I don't want a trade-in, just cash. Are there any other options?

That stuff is going to be worth little to nothing in any market. Honestly, I'd say it's best to wait until a place like GS has a bonus trade in offer for a console and take advantage of it. If you only want cash, don't expect to see much from anyone. My PS3 is sitting in the closet for the same reason.

Craigslist is probably your best bet. Create a local pick-up ad and say you won't break up the bundle. It'll move fast.

Some PS3s are still in decent demand - they're better, more versitle media players/streamers than current consoles. If mine broke, I'd buy another one, even though I have a PS4.

FWIW, I have found that the prices on Media Mail shipping for VG items can be crazy good if you buy the label directly through eBay - and it will show you the price as you're creating the listing, not after you're locked in. I've sold consoles and large joysticks this way and the shipping was not nearly the obstacle I'd expected.

Give it a look if you want.
