Just that they lock it to a single piece of hardware. I bought a DSi last April and have about 60 bucks worth of DSiWare on it and 3800 points. They won't transfer any of that so it kills my interest in the XL. Basically increases the cost of the device by $100 to replace that stuff.

Ah...I knew about that, it just wasn't lining up in my head when I read your post. Thanks for explaining it though. I sent N a email when I got my wii a few years back. They never addressed it so I never brought anything. I still have 4000 wii points sitting on my wii because they will not even allow your purchased items to follow you via a username or sd card...something. It's just greed

Well, unless they are sold out I'll pick up the XL regardless. Really like the increased size.

Maybe when the next version of the DS comes out, but those are steady sellers and usually don't drop in price even after a few years on the market. I would get them during the sale at Toys R Us.

Re: Official Nintendo DS Thread VIII: 65 Million Strong.. and Growing

So my Easter present was Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. I popped it in yesterday just to check it out real quick and spent about 6 hours playing it by the end of the day. This is just a fantastic RPG. It combines a cool Sci-Fi storyline with old school first person dungeon crawling. Think Shining in the Darkness or Bard's Tale on the old PC. The dungeons aren't random though like Persona and you do map them to the bottom screen as you go. Of course being a MegaTen game it also has the demons that you fight, recruit and combine into new creatures. All of these elements blend well into a great DS game. It is so good it feels like they squished a PS2 game onto a DS cart. I'm really recommending this one based on what I have played so far. The difficulty is also on par with most MegaTen games so its not punishing, but not a cake walk either. You really have to manage your resources and balance the risk of going deeper in a dungeon with going back and saving.

Picross 3D! Anyone else excited for it? I played the demo from the Nintendo Channel this morning. The interface works surprisingly well.

I know the official release date is today. I wonder if Gamestop will have it today or tomorrow? Nintendo is kind of inconsistent on that front.

I'm excited for it, but the Best Buy Gamers Club thing has a $5 off coupon that doesn't go live til the 16th, so I'm waiting until then.

For those who don't know, Picross 3D is only $20 instead of the standard $30 for DS games. I think there's 300 puzzles or so, which seems like a pretty good value.

I loved the crap out of Picross. I may be able to swing by BB on the 16th for a $15 deal.

I have the japanese version (Rittai Picross) and LOVE it. I will definitely be picking up the US version so that I can actually read the menus and be able to use the make your own puzzle feature.

DQ IX has no date other than "Summer," so whatever you're seeing in a placeholder.

SE should follow-up some time later with VI, even if their recent DS support would indicate otherwise.

Fuck yes. Excited enough to even open the DS thread.

Picross is a staple on every trip I take even three years after its release. I feel like I've been waiting for 3D forever. If you find it out and about today please let me know!!

I'll be calling Gamestop before I leave work. I'll let you know what they say.

Gamestop lady said that today is the ship date. I hate that Nintendo says that a game is "available now" when they mean "available tomorrow".

I'm not sure what to do when there's 2 potential reasons for misinformation in that statement.

I dunno, they seem to be good at knowing what is in their stores and on the way to their stores. Beyond that...you have a point.

Definitely picking up Picross 3D this week. Still play the first one on DS and the old Mario one on GameBoy.

Re: Official Nintendo DS Thread VIII: 65 Million Strong.. and Growing

While I really like what Picross 3D does, it's definitely going to have a learning curve to get the hang off. Getting some of them done in the first level time limit is going to be quite a challenge.

Honestly I would've just preferred a straight up follow up in the standard Picross format. I loved the 2D pixel animations and the size they could do those puzzles in.

They could have added color as an extra element.

Anybody plan on doing a Picross 3D / 3D Dot Game Heroes cross-over?

I'm on Level 4 (in the Beginner section), and it's not too bad yet. Personally, I like the added challenge of bringing in the 3rd dimension. The first game gave me more than enough 2D puzzles (still haven't finished them all).

I've never played Picross at all and I have 3D on pre-order mainly because all of the rave reviews here. For those who have played it so far (and those who will, too) do you think the tutorial will be sufficient for me to catch on?
