The only reason I might pick this up is to finally get an extra guitar for my PS3. It's either get this for $90 or so with a guitar or just buy a guitar, when they're finally available, for $60.

The way I see it, they need to find different stuff to put out on Guitar Hero and Rock Band. I mean, we pay 150 bucks are whatever for a drum set, guitar, mic, etc., The same old songs will get old over time. The DLC is a cool feature but coming out with games will keep people feeling like they will be getting their money's worth when they buy the whole shibang to begin with.

I wouldn't be surprised to see different Genre's coming out just like the 80's version. Probally a country music version, jazz, alternative. They will make their money where they can.

This band?!

I know they were probably an easy sing as they live to please the masses, but what ev. As someone else mentioned, a Beatles game would be great but it will never happen. Other "full band" games I would buy (that would also appeal to Joe & Jane Sixpack) would include U2 & Led Zepplin and that is about it. Anything else I would enjoy would only appeal to a very small segement of the market (i.e. Smashing Pumpkins, Modest Mouse, Spoon, etc.)

Rock Band is doing it the right way. The weekly song packs are a great idea (even though I don't always care for the songs they release). That way I don't have 4-5 different discs laying around, all with different tracklists that I have to sort through to play the songs I want..

Engadget is reporting that the Aerosmith add-on might include options for vocals and drumming. Might explain why Activision doesn't want to allow RH peripherals on PS3.

Isn't this really something that should be done as DLC?

Sure seams like it to me. Rock Band is gonna have a Nirvana, The Who, and Greatful Dead album all as DLC......and all 3 of those still wont cost what one game does with Aerosmith songs.

Aerosmith is a great band and all and I'd love to play their songs but I cannot justify buying a full game for $60 which you know it will cost when this could have easily been DLC for a previous version of GH for much much less.

... double pass? I like Aerosmith enough, but can't see myself buying such a restricted concept.

I'll just throw my two cents in on this and call it a day. If the rest of the game is as easy and weak as the song they released for GHIII over the weekend is I will most certainly be avoiding the game. I am glad that they are putting in more than just Aerosmith songs, but this feels very "oh crap lets scramble to try and throw a game together that is based in something that will appeal to a large range of people so that we can topple rock band" and as a result I really feel like this could be a pitfall for the franchise.

Edit:

If revolution X is added as an unlock able mini game you bet your sweet hind end I'd buy it in a second.

I'm with Pinata. AC/DC is one of the most awesomest bands in the history of rock, but that would be one repetitive game.

I could stand to see an AC/DC pack - Highway to Hell, Back in Black, You Shook Me All Night Long. Thunderstruck for all the Expert players to get carpal tunnel with.

Nevermind all the throat lozenges you'd need after session of singing. You sing AC/DC -- you've got to go balls out.

You have confused Guitar Hero with Rock Band.

There's actually a rumor(typo?) that this new game will support drums & a mic.

Nah. My logic is perfectly sound because we were talking about the hypothetical mic and drum add-ons.

I definitely don't think I could enjoy a game composed mainly of Aerosmith songs, so unless I can get this on the cheap, I'll probably pass.

Where's the Metallica hero? Just throw all of the first 4 cds and part of the black album on there. Plus a couple of the first Megadeth albums. Maybe add some Motorhead and other influential bands. It would be the most arm tiring game in history.

I want to know the plans for DLC on the Wii. I got GHIII for the Wii before I bought my PS3 and finally Rock Band. I like both, but the lack of DLC for Wii has been offputting.

If I didn't think Aerosmith were an awful band, I'd buy it. Their only good song is Dream On.

Now that is a VERY COOL idea

Just for the record I am definetely getting this, I think aerosmith is a strong enough band to warrant an entire game on its own.

And I think anyone who bought the Wii version probably should have anticipated as much.
