How much did you spend on gaming this year?

Approximately how much did you spend on gaming this year? This includes:

  • Hardware (consoles, PC graphics cards for games, accessories)
  • Software (games, downloadable games, content)
  • Rentals (Gamefly / Gametap subscriptions and the like)
  • Gaming-related gifts (bought a game for someone else, etc.)
  • Arcades (if these still exist in your area)

I'll add mine up later, not really sure right now.

Easily over $1500, I put PS3s and X-Box 360 Elites in my bedroom and basement, that alone is over $1500. I didn't buy many games, just Halo 3, Guitar Hero 2 & 3, and Rock Band, so aside from that, its just my Gamefly and GamePass, aside from some strategy guides.

$600-PS3
$60-Resistance
$60-Halo 3
$60-Crackdown
$90-Guitar Hero II
$100-GH III
$50-Paper mario
$50-Carnival Games
$50-Cars
$50-Wario Ware
$25-PS3 Remote
$25-XB Magazine sub
$180-Rock Band
$50-Mario Galaxy
$40-Age of Empires III
$10-Bankshot Billiards 2
$60(ish)-Oblivion Downloads
$66-2 XBL Gold memberships
$$$-Rentals, Bioshock, Super Mario 8, Playground, CoD4, blah, blah, blah

$1,626 plus rentals, plus other stuff I'm sure.

...I also bought a 32" LCD for the bedroom, which of course has games systems hooked up to it, but it wasn't bought exclusively for that reason.

(edit, again, lol) I also got Diamonds and Pearl (2 games) for the DS, as well as a couple others. Plus, I think the Best Buy sale was this year-the one where games were like $2.99-$9.99...I think I spent $30 on that stuff.

Easily over $2,000

All I bought was 2 PS2 Games: Nascar 07 $40 and Star Wars Lego 2 $15. So $65.

Technically, it's probably a push, because when I finish games I sell them off and then buy games, then repeat. I just sold Lego 2 for $10 and a handful of games purchased in 06.

I still got Nascar 07.

My budget for 08 will probably be a lot more. I've got more time to game now and I'll probably pick up a NES and SNES system and a DS sometime early '08

I don't want to think too much about it, but I bought a PS3, PSP and Wii this year so that alone puts me close to a thousand. Probably another grand for games. It is hard to figure exactly. I sold and traded in a lot of stuff this year, but I spend over $1500 easy.

My tally at lcvg says $1193 (after trade-ins and sales), but that includes a $400 360 and a $350 PS3 and a $90 PSP, as well as an additional 360 controller ($30), PS3 controller ($20) and a Wiimote/Classic controller ($50). I expect it will be a lot less next year.

Let's see...

About $110 on XBLA / PSN games ($85+ on XBLA).
PS3: $500.
Rock Band: $170
GHII: $90
Halo 3, Bioshock, R&C: $180
I think I bought DS games, but probably spent under $100.

Way too much.

Bought a 360, GH, Rock Band, and accessories (controllers for 360 and Wii). Plus a ton of games, mostly on sale, but a few full price purchases (like Orange Box and Bioshock).

On the flipside, I spent like $400 on DVDs this year. Which means my DVD and VG purchases flipped. And I made about twice as much as I did last year.

I'm thinking approx $1500, give or take, between the 360 and Wii most of that going towards the 360.

That said, I've had more enjoyment with the gaming hobby over the last year than I've had in past years(360 mostly). That's true even with the 360 being out for repairs at various times over the last year.

Hmmm... no idea. I bought and sold many games after beating them which makes calculating tough(usually for a profit), but this is going to get ugly:

  • Playstation(system, cables): $400
  • Ratchet & Clank: $30
  • Motorstorm: $20

Nintendo Wii ($165)
  • Wii Play: $40
  • Sonic & the Secret Rings: $5*
  • Super Paper Mario: $5
  • Resident Evil 4: $15
  • Metroid Prime 3 Corruption: $20
  • Zack & Wiki: $40
  • Super Mario Galaxy: $40

Xbox 360 ($485)
  • HD-DVD drive: $160
  • Halo 3:LE: $100
  • Bioshock:CE: $70
  • Arcade Unplugged: $10

  • Tetris Evolution: $15
  • Crackdown: $50
  • Condemned: $12
  • VirtuaTennis 3: $20
  • the Darkness: $5*
[B]

PSN / VC / XBLA** ($65)
  • Lemmings: $6
  • Flow: $5
  • Everyday Shooter: $5
  • Sin & Punishment: $12
  • Bomberman Live: $5
  • Boom Boom Rocket: $5
  • Lumines Live!: $5
  • Luxor 2: $5
  • Pac-Man: CE: $5
  • Pinball FX: $5
  • Track and Field: $2.50
  • Worms: $5

Xbox ($20)
  • Manhunt: $10
  • Psychonauts: $10

Gamecube ($35)
  • Waverace: $5
  • Eternal Darkness: $5
  • Animal Crossing: $5
  • Prince of Persia: Warrior Within: $10
  • Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones: $10

Playstation 2 ($75)
  • Gotlieb Pinball: $5
  • Mark of Kri: $5
  • Maximo: $7
  • Klonoa 2: $10
  • Kingdom Hearts: $10
  • Kingdom Hearts 2: $10
  • Half-life: $10
  • Jak & Daxter: the Precurser Legacy: $5
  • Twisted Metal Black: $5
  • Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando: $5

Nintendo DS ($20)
  • Pokemon Pearl: $10
  • Metroid Prime Pinball: $10

Gameboy Advance ($15)
  • Castlevania: $5
  • Castlevania Double Pack: $10

Gamefly ($55)
  • 6 months(after free offer & brightspot): $55

============
Grand Total: $2,085***

* bought and sold, either profited or lost no more than $5
** likely cost $0. I didn't pay for any of my points this year for XBLA & VC. Floated by on gifts and the BB Gears points from last Nov. so I just estimated half price for them all.
*** That's including the PS3 and HD drive which I bought mainly for movie playback. Excluding both would drop it to $1,520, or even lower factoring in selling the free movies.

Wow. Just voted after totaling it out and I'm surprised at the number of folks in the $1500+ category.

Great idea for a thread. It would be even better to start a "spending tab" thread for 2008 in January to keep closer tabs. I'll be dropping Gamefly and won't have any console purchases so 2008 should be a lot lighter on the wallet.

I was curious about just how well I do, so I've been keeping a spreadsheet all year.

Between selling and trading games that I don't want to keep (including MANY times for a profit) and bargain hunting for games that I do want to keep, I've hardly spent anything. In fact, if it weren't for buying a 360 this year, I would have come out ahead, even though the value of my collection (in terms of how much I could get for selling it) went way up.

I'm scared to add it all up, I think I am definitely over $1500.

But I'm curious, I might try and add it up.

I haven't spent much this year. I bought Halo LE a second 360 w/hdd for $250.00 and one maybe two games if that. Everything else my friends and I have just passed around borrowing going from game to game with the pool of games we have between us all.

Lets see..

Rock Band (179)
Guitar Hero II (90)
GameTap for 10 months - $70
New Videocard (PC) - $100
Halo 3 - $40
The Orange Box - $40
BioShock LE - $70
Condemned - $15
Quake 4 - $5
DDR 360 - $11
The Movies - $5
Super Paper Mario - $50

Gamefly -- no charge yet
Mitsubishi HD1000U Projector - $850 (tho not fully intended for VGs, its what it gets used most for)
