The graphic definitely look better than in the first. After playing COD4, I tried to warm up by playing a little R6V1 last week to get ready for the release, the graphics in the game, while amazing in a few places, look awful, especially when you first land in Vegas the cars look like freaking boxes.
|
I've been playing it and have been enjoying it, but really haven't been paying attention to XPs, Level Ups, etc. Maybe if I play it through on hard I'll pay more attention.
Since I hate dealing with changing weapons, outfits, etc, does anyone have any suggestions on a good SMG and Sniper Rifle that I can use for most of the game? I think that I am about halfway through or a little more. |
Hey
I played the first "Vegas" and thought that was simply outstanding. It was my first RS game period. Besides the graphics I felt the game was pretty long and had a good story line to boot. How does the new one stack up in those areas? Also how does the squad base commands differ from the last one? Easier, better or about the same? Thanks Kenny J - Buzz |
I am having a bitch of a time trying to get past the drop off section of the Nevada Desert. I think that I know how to do it (very slowly), but it seems like there are a ton of enemies out to get me. I think that I had one last person to get past, and he got me. I played that one part of the game for about an hour, and I didn't get any further.

Just wait...it gets worse. Wait until you get to the refinery. |
Oh great! I have gotten past the initial part, but now I am trying to get through the furnace place, just before the refinery. The level of difficulty really ramps up on the Nevada Desert part. All of the parts before that was pretty easy, but this section has been much harder than all of the previous sections. And I am playing on normal difficulty.

COD4 is just an amazing game, as is the first R6 game. Both are high quality games that will be hard to top. R62 is also a great game, but come on....60 bucks for what should have been a map download pack? It is great, but it feels like something you should download for the first game.

Yes, I started a separate thread: So Who's Down on Some R6V coop (360 version)
Pursuant to some advice therein, I am reposting here: -40 year old lawyer from NYC. -I spend about 1 1/2 hours gaming during the week (from about 7:30 - 9:00 EDT). -I'm online later Friday and Saturday evenings. -I am not that good. -I am not that bad. -I enjoy cooperative play. -I enjoy being part of a team. -I have no friends in the real world that game (my efforts to evangelize them have failed) -I have been a member of DVD Talk since 2000. -I am also a member of cheapassgamer. If you're interested in some cooperative R6V (and beyond), feel free to send me a friend request (XBL: Kromax44). Remember to say you saw it here on DVDTalk. (Yes this reads like a desperate personal ad on purpose. I am growing weary of gaming with strangers on XBL.) |
I must be suck on that game... I kept getting killed all the time and the setting is casual and stuck at college campus (fake rock climbing room). My stupid hands aren't designed for FPS with controller! -ohbfrank-

Kromax44, I added you because I too know your pain of having non-gaming friends. Most people I deal with daily have many negative things to say about video games.
Moving on... So I've been playing my copy of this game like crazy and have been neglecting this thread. I hope the things I say haven't been said far too many times. I believe the abilities of your AI squad to clear a room has gone up a good bit from the previous game. However their ability to follow directions and get to a room to clear it has dropped substantially. Many times I have directed mt team to do something and find they are stuck or just stubborn. One time I simply could not find them on the level. Their position on map was on the border of the map but when I went to that point they were nowhere to be found. I tempted to keep the copy that came from GameFly now that my friend helped me finish the game today. Once again I wasn't super impressed with the story but I would never really go back and play the story mode again. |
I finished the game last night. The last two levels were almost an exercise in futility for me at points. I'd go in, clear out an entire section, and then get killed by an unknown gunman, with no idea of where he came from. I'd have to do the section multiple times before I could figure out where he was. Then I could get past it.
I think that the game is broken up into 7 parts, and the first 5 are pretty easy. The last two can be very tough, and once or twice it took me about an hour to get from one checkpoint to another. Nothing is worse than finally getting past a hard part of a section just to get blindsided, and have to go back and do it all over again. |

IMHO that's a plus ;) I hate stealth games... Anyway I finished this yesterday and overall I liked it/thought it was a great addition to the R6 series. I agree though the last couple of levels, especially the very last bit were pretty ridiculous, even on the lowest difficulty. It really seemed to be more luck than skill to get past that final part. |
So what is the multi-player map of choice? For R61 it seemed that most people played Attack & Defend in the casino. I can't seem to find a consistently used map that I like. What do you guys prefer?
|
Team Leader in Villa seems to be really popular.
I like Team Conquest in the Convention Center. |
What's the gist behind Team Leader? What's the overall goal?
|
Don't you hate when you had your team disarm bomb strapped on hostage and shoot anyone that come in our way? It's pretty silly and too "frag festival".
|
Team Leader =
- Each team has one person who is a leader (it has also been called a VIP in other games, including R6V1 if I recall) - The leader must make it to an extraction point - If the leader is killed, the rest of the team stops respawning. So the game ends in one of two ways: - The leader of one team makes it to the extraction point first. - The leader of a team is assassinated, and the rest of the team is killed off (since they can't respawn). |
Beat the game on realistic tonight. The last two levels were a PITA. Took me about 3 days, a couple hours a day, to beat those last 2. The final boss fight was annoying, but I think the 6th level takes the cake
Spoiler:
Though I have to admit. I am completely befuddled how this whole plot fits in the with the first. I get the general idea of the storyline, but I feel like a need a freaking timeline to make sense of it. Two things worth noting: - The ACES/Leveling Up System is great, except for the shield, which I think should be easier to aquire than level 20, which would have come in handy during the story mode. - The acheivements and leveling up are way easier in this one. I already have surpassed my achievement total from R6V1 in like 8 days compared to 40+. |
I have only played the game for a few days, but finished it on casual. I want to rank up and unlock more weapons. Do you get more points on the higher story difficulties? Or Would it be faster to do T-hunt on higher dif? I also can't seem to get many CQB, and assault points. I like to hang as far back as I can and get distance kills. Seems to take lots less damage that way.
I have only tried online once, is that a better way to rank up? |
Online you get a lot more ACES points. Instead of +1 for a headshot, it's +5 and so on.

While I like the Aces system, I don't like how easily you reach level 20. 2 nights of online T-hunts and 1/2 way thru story mode and I'm already maxxed on close quarters, 17 on marksman and 15 on assault. There's not much challenge and you're done way too fast. They should have either added more or spaced them much further apart. |

And about your spoiler, Spoiler:

you either 1 or 3 pts, while normal and realistic net 5 and 10 respectively. |
I love the difficulty level of the game on normal--very challenging--but I despise the lack of checkpoints/inability to save at will. It's insanely annoying to get through an incredibly tough level only to have some terrorist leap out from behind a corner with a Spas right before a checkpoint...

You know what's odd? I haven't seen R6V2 in any store. I'm always looking for games when I'm out and I've been to TRU, BB, Gamestop, and others and I haven't seen it.
I'm sure I'm missing it but I just thought that was weird. |
The game must be selling well. When I went to my (urban) BB on launch, they only had 3 copies left at 5 PM, and me and another guy grabbed 2 of them right after one another. I haven't been back to BB since, so I'm not sure if they got more in, but it looked wiped at launch.
According to 360voice, it's getting similar play numbers to COD4 daily, about 10,000 each. So that's a lot of people. |
How do you beat the protect-the-teammate-while-he-disarm-the-bomb-that-attached-to-the-door mission at some fancy house in jungle?
I found it pretty ridiculous and impossible to protect him. I was waiting for them to come – they took out my guy who is disarming it right away and I got killed before I could revive him. Fill the room with smoke? Or what? |

My wife and I beat the game tonight. Gotta say, that pre-final assault was practically
unplayable the slowdown was so bad. The framerate made it near impossible to aim or even turn to see what was even going on. This was the 360 version, though I assume it's the same on the PS3. Very disappointing to end on that note. |

Paying full-price for an expansion pack? You don't give two hoots. Why? Because Ubisoft announced today that they've shipped 2 million copies of Rainbow Six Vegas 2, which when you consider the game's short gestation period and myriad of problems is good news for the company. Not good news for gamers, since it shows Ubisoft can release any old guff and get away with charging $60 for it, but hey, we're not talking about you. We're talking about Ubisoft. |

Finished it on Realistic last night. The story is lolworthy. It is so bad. This game is a glitch fest. I lost all my ranking a couple of days ago, I was pretty far along too. Now I have to start all over. But the stages are well designed and I love the game so I will keep playing the MP until it gets old.
|
I've experienced some cringe worthy slowdown on a couple of occasions. I've also encountered a bug that causes one of my teammates to not respond to any of my commands. I use those guys as sacrificial lambs, so it's caused some aggravating deaths.
Whoever designed the refinery level needs to be punished by playing Bubsy 3D for a month straight. I can't even imagine playing that one on Realistic. Although this post sounds pretty negative, I actually like this game a lot...probably more so than the first and I loved that one. |

ever want to see a slideshow try split screen co-op. |
Don't like split screen at all (unlike Gears of War), the game is very sluggish in the split screen mode, not very enjoyable at all...
I use the teammate for sacrifices in the beginning, but now, i'm going solo... Addicted to the point system, i want to take out the Tangos all by myself. If your teammates get stuck for some reason, check if they are around step ladders, boxes etc... some times they can't get around those objects. You must go back to "reroute" them. One annoying bug i found is that the rifles can stick through walls, very unnatural. I find the Tangos are dumber in the sequel (a little like a prequel too). I don't see them use the mounted machine guns much, or maybe i choose a better route? |
