I saw the $39.99 too, which is great considering everywhere else seems to be the full $59.99. I haven't had good luck at all finding things like this in stock at Fry's but it sure may be worth a shot... (no pun intended)

LOL Flay got called out on the RB6V2 xbox live message boards.

Awesome pic Flay!

Flay 03-17-08 04:07 PM

:) I like to pop in those Xbox forums on rare occasions to tease the masses.

Anyway, I just got in a hour long session of co-op. It's a blast if you have a partner that matches your playstyle, be it Run & Gun or Slow & Tactical. It just as easy to jump into a game as it is in Gears. You can pick the mission, difficulty level, etc. Also the level achievements can be earned entirely in co-op. It's probably the fastest way to rack up experience points as well.

Mopower 03-17-08 04:26 PM

Are you playing Coop online? Can you talk to your partner as you are playing thru voice chat?

Decker 03-17-08 04:43 PM

Flay, I think you've talked me into it. I need a fun co-op my best friend and I can play together. We did a lot of terrorist hunt in the first game. If this is better, then it's worth it for me to pick it up; especially at a $39.99 price point. Thanks for the info.

Yes, I'm playing over Xbox Live. There are brief pockets of lag at startup, but the sync works itself out over the first minute of play. Yes, you can talk to your partner over voice chat. It's constantly on and there's no need to be in close proximity to hear them. I often took the alternate doors on the levels and we coordinated a breach through voice chat.

Another little tidbit on co-op is that re-spawning takes 10 seconds and your partner has to continue to live for you to respawn. Otherwise both players will start at the previous checkpoint. Also, the co-op player gets to watch the other player while waiting to respawn.

Haven't tired out terrorist hunt yet, just co-op on the main campaign. I'm sure it's just as good.

Only 10 gamerscore points though.

If you have a save file from the 1st Vegas on your drive is there an option not

Was that all you got? Any idea if your custom face map carries over aswell,
or do you need to recreate it?

I'd hope that there would be an improved face mapping system in the new game...

On the R6V2 vids on LIVE I think they've added face mapping to Single player too but I could be wrong.

Closing Comments
As I said previously, the biggest problem that most will have with Vegas 2 is that it doesn’t differentiate itself enough from the first. It doesn’t feel like an expansion pack exactly–-it’s more than that--but it doesn’t feel like a full-fledged sequel either. For those who haven’t taken a stroll down the streets of Sin City than you needn’t look any further than Rainbow Six Vegas 2, but those looking for a sequel that surpasses the original in everyway imaginable will be disappointed.

IGN Ratings for Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (X360)
Rating Description
out of 10 click here for ratings guide
9.0 Presentation
Menu systems are the same as before but everything moves a bit better than before, especially online.
8.0 Graphics
A lot of slowdown, some of it is understandable, other times it’s not. It doesn't run as well as the first Vegas.
8.0 Sound
Identical to what was in the first game in terms of music. Voice acting is definitely improved, especially on the enemies.
8.5 Gameplay
Same mechanics as in the first, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing when they’re this good. Sprinting is a plus; the co-op is not.
8.5 Lasting Appeal
Plenty of maps and modes will keep players busy, just so long as they realize that they’ve already been playing this game for awhile.
8.4
Impressive OVERALL

lordwow 03-18-08 10:43 AM

Pretty lukewarm reviews. I still played the crap out of the first, and will probably spend quality time with this one.

discostu1337 03-18-08 11:46 AM

I played the first level of the first game, then stopped...tried the online and thought it was complete rubbish...but I'm buying this tomorrow :)

Woah thats scary. Maybe thats why the reviews were halted until release.

Yeah, not good at all.

I went from planning to picking it up today to waiting until a pricedrop after reading the IGN review. Which is a shame, as I was looking forward to it.

Flay 03-18-08 04:51 PM

I've finished 75% of the single player and only ran into 1 pocket of noticeable slowdown so far; in a bathroom no less. I did run into some connection drops during co-op today, but I couldn't find anyone with a good ping to me. All my connections today were one red dot rather than 3 green dots yesterday. I did get some quality terrorist hunt sessions into the schedule today.

The story is a little flimsy, but there are tie-ins to the previous storyline. For those that pick it up this week, tell me if you spot Cory Feldman in the opening mission.

astrochimp 03-18-08 07:05 PM

I dont like any mention of slowdown in games. Its why i dont PC game much anymore and i think for consoles its inexcusable since the developers know the exact hardware specs they are working with as opposed to games for PC.Anyway i still am very interested in this game so i might just hold off an extra few days and keep my eyes on this thread ;)

edit-oh and thanks for all your thoughts on the game Flay, much appreciated :)

I just wanted to quote that out of context. Sounds like a sample from a Flomax review.

God, Fry's is such a fucking scam. They've had that price sticker up on where R6:V2 should be on the shelf since Monday, and it says that the deal is only good through Thursday. However, they said that they won't even get the game in until Thursday (maybe, Friday's more likely). And even then, they'll only get a handful of copies, most of which will be snatched up by employees before they even go up on the shelf. So unless you get a raincheck, and wait for another week, you ain't gettin' this at Fry's this week at that price.

taffer 03-19-08 04:49 PM

I wish they would bring back the strategic pre-planning stuff from the old-school Rainbow Six games. I really miss that. The Vegas games have more of an "arcade" feel to them compared to the first few Rainbow Six games.

I used to love that as well on the old PC R6 games.

Giantrobo 03-19-08 06:20 PM

I haven't played yet but I think at this point -ALL- FPS's should have the ability to sprint, take cover, and blind fire. I'm glad this new game added sprint.

xmiyux 03-19-08 06:24 PM

I disagree with the cover thing. Not a big fan of the shift to 3rd person for cover.

lordwow 03-19-08 06:38 PM

I think the cover worked well in the game.

Picked this up at BB. No Frys around here. Used my RW Certificate and a GC, so didn't have to pay for it. Yessss.

Ok, fair enough. But however it's worked into a game I think it should be an option. Especially when games allow the enemy AI to do it.

QFT

I have a Fry's near me, and I'm not going to bother. It's just not worth the hassle of getting there at 5:00 to find out they're sold out already.

lordwow 03-19-08 09:08 PM

I played through the first level and part of the 2nd. So far, so good. The game feels a lot more smooth than the last one. I haven't encountered any slowdown thus far. The AI are still dumb as bricks. I've been playing on Realistic, and I feel it's bit easier thus far than R6V1 on realistic.

I'm a big fan of the COD4 type leveling up system, and especially the fact it's the same in multiplayer and singleplayer. I haven't played the MP yet, but I will tomorrow.

Decker 03-19-08 10:37 PM

Bad news : My local Circuit City only got 2 copies in today, so I missed out.
Good News : They gave me a $20 GC for my trouble, gave me the fuzzy dice that come with the game promotion, will call me tomorrow when the game does come in (allegedly) and will match Fry's advertised price for me. Bottom line -- I'll get the game tomorrow at CC for $19.99 out of pocket and I still get the free fuzzy dice! :D

lordwow 03-19-08 10:51 PM

Hit my first pocket of slowdown in the 2nd level. It was pretty much the same that happened in the first game. I think the game plays smoother overall other than these small patches of slowdown, which seem to occur when you enter a flashy room (ie: Casino) with a dozen+ enemies.

Brooklyn 03-19-08 11:15 PM

So now that several folks here have played it, can anyone answer a question I
had above; can you refuse the giving of the extra exp/bonus if you completed
Rainbow Vegas on realistic or had the online rank of elite? Or is it automatic if
you start a new game with a save on your HDD (offline)/attached to your
gamertag (online)? I picked it up today but will wait to play it until this is
patched (skips the private 1st class achievement) if it's automatic. Thanks
for any info.

lordwow 03-20-08 05:09 AM

It is automatic. I started the game and it said "Welcome back, Wowous" and promoted me. I wouldn't worry too much about it, Ubisoft has said they're going to patch this.

Brooklyn 03-20-08 11:15 AM

Into the 360 as soon as the wife gets home then :)
Thanks

Wait....you have a Circuit City that isn't terrible? Armageddon is happening soon.

mrglass 03-20-08 03:41 PM

<---- hypocrite. :)

After vowing to not go to Fry's, I went there looking for a cheap copy of Condemned. No Condemned and no Vegas, either. As I was leaving, I saw about five or six green cases on the counter where the video game workers were stationed. Lo and behold it was a stack of Vegas'. I grabbed one and had to clue in another poor soul who was looking for it, as well.

Rob V 03-20-08 06:47 PM

Shit, didn't know you could sprint... how do you do it?

missingtoof 03-20-08 07:26 PM

Press the left shoulder button...

Good game, so far. Very reminiscent of the first. Just doesn't have the "wow" factor like the first Vegas. Guess that's because I've been spoiled by COD4; expected a little more in the graphics and gameplay departments; or a combination of both.

I still love it, though. Just something about those tactical shooters...

Decker 03-21-08 09:03 AM

Sure enough, they came through. They put a copy aside and sold it to me for the Fry's price minus 10% of the difference. So with the "I'm Sorry" GC from Wed, I got the game (plus fuzzy dice and enery pills) on Thurs for $17.99 + tax. That's my best game deal ever for a brand-new game.

Will start playing tonight. Can you put your face in the game again? Is it better done than in the first game?

RForte1189 03-23-08 09:55 PM

I do not get why everyone is like "expected more in graphics" "the graphics sucked" etc. I mean, the graphics in this game are amazing, they are as good as the first, if not better. People said games like CoD had better graphics, I would have to completely disagree considering how cartoony CoD is. The fluent graphics of the Unreal engine has always had me hooked. Also - GREAT game, love it.

This comment comes too late for that particular sale, but I've found that pricematching Fry's is usually better than just going to Fry's.
