I've only played the PS3 version, but if you have the space, I do think people who want to play online should install to hard drive... it does make a difference in load times, and it helps with the waiting. That doesn't seem too unreasonable to me.

The rest? Eh.

glad to hear i'm not the only one having the problem. Yeah, more than half of those moves i don't (or can't) do in the real fight anyway.

I do think it's sad when people take advantage of exploits to increase their rankings. I mean really, is it that serious? If you're really good, great, but if you have to do things to win (like taking advantage of lag) -- I mean does that really make someone feel good? I would rather get my ass kicked in fun matches, than pad my stats.

installing the game on the hdd makes a difference... the process takes a long time though, i hate it. Obviously, i'm not gonna delete it, no way.

agree with the comment people doing everything they can to win. Choosing the char after you, spamming cheesy moves, lag? I don't know about the lag, but yeah, if that works out to their advantage then it's worse than cheesy moves IMO.

well, same thing with any other ranked on-line matches, like chess, go, etc... people cheat like crazy, they just want to win! See, for video games, i don't take the cheating seriously, i don't get frustrated just b/c somebody has quick fingers. I admire their skills, but it's not something to be frustrated over. However, on the other hand, if it's on-line chess, go or poker, the opponents better not be cheating, that i can't tolerate...

blocking is part of the game, so yeah, there's nothing much to it other than saying the dude or gal is chicken shit. Hey, maybe use taunt, to get the opponent fired up.

as to throwing (regular move), yeah, i hate people doing that (i mean constantly doing it). It's cheesy, no respects... But for the Zangief's power driver, that's a different thing. I gave credit for those pull that off, even got my butt kicked.

on a side note, i almost always don't take advantage of the opponent when he/she is in the dizzy mode. of course, that's not true for somebody whipped my butt many times in a row (in that case, i don't think i can put the dizzy spell on him/her).

personally i just hate it when i'm thrown in the middle of doing a move. For instance: I pull off super cool ultra move. They respond: throw.

I just played a match with a guy who only did Ken's fire dragon punch. The whole match. That was interesting.

I have a dumb question. I have not been able to join an online ranked match yet. I can set them up and host them, no problem, but when I try kick match it always says "unable to connect". Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Re: Street Fighter 4 Announced

Maybe the online match thing is still broken? I know early on, people had an easier time just playing single player and getting challenged, then to try to go straight to online matches.

Yeah, i've had that problem and mentioned it earlier. Player Matches seem to work better and more consistantly, but Ranked Matches always give me errors. It's pretty stupid.

Well, since I had the space I decided to install the the HD. I don't really notice a difference in online matches, but not having my 360 sounding like a F-15 during take off is a beautiful thing.

I think it's a bigger difference in the PS3. The 360 is already pretty quick, but when I tried it on PS3 the load times were probably twice as long without an install to the hard drive.

Re: Street Fighter 4 Announced

Right, so I just had a nice little marathon session, and while I'm not "nice" or anything yet, I'm definitely developing my strategy.

The trick to getting ranked matches for me has been to just keep cycling through until one game accepts you. It should be easier than that, but it only takes about 5 tries to get a match. For some reason, when I'm the challenger the competition is easier, versus when I host a match -- which usually finds me getting much tougher opponents on average.

I have to say, I should be used to it by now, but I still hate the fact that the alternate costumes are DLC. Some of them are actually quite cool, and if I'm honest, I might have bought them if they weren't broken up into "packs". Say all of them for 600 points. Since Ken's alt is kind of fugly, I'll have to settle for unlocking the different colors. But if my main was Cammy, Vega, Balrog...especially Balrog, I would be out of some money.

ETA: Apparently there will be an all-in-one alt costume pack released on Apr 30th for 1000 points. So that isn't too bad.

I fucking love this game.

En-dee-struck-ta-bull!

oh, so that's why? i was wondering why i couldn't get on-line matches... and i remember i got a lot of that when i was playing the arcade mode (trying to unlock Akuma and Gouken). I got so many matches that i had to turn the option off (otherwise i would never beat the game).

I played this a bit last night. Some of the matches were pretty frustrating. It seems like you have to be cheap to counter the CPU's being cheap. Seth just throws me the whole time. Zangief does his piledriver at least 3 times a match.

Ryu is good to start off with, I beat the game with him. But some of the others... very hard.

Re: Street Fighter 4 Announced

This game is messed up.

I've been playing it for three nights now and always get my ass handed to me during the 'rival' match. I finally won that match tonight and then I literally destroyed Seth. He hit me one time in two rounds. Do they vary the difficulty during the rival match or something? I'm playing on medium difficulty.

boredsilly 03-29-09 07:44 AM

Re: Street Fighter 4 Announced

I noticed that the rival matches amp up the difficulty too.

To be honest, playing online with people just shows that no matter how good the computer AI has come over the years, there is still that intangible thing that a real person brings to the game that AI can't. Even when the match making isn't perfect, it's always more fun to me playing against a real life opponent. Now, I never play against the CPU. I've only beaten the game a few times to unlock some characters, and I'll go back to unlock some colors and the rest of the characters in a bit, but that will probably be the end of it. It has been training mode and ranked matches only for me so far. If the online community fades away, my overall impression of the game will drop drastically.

Anyone know if there is a fight stick that works with both the PS3 and 360?

I bought SF4 for the PS3 and have the SSF2 Remix for the 360 and would love to be able to not have to buy two fight sticks.

I wonder if the 360 one works since it's wired and would just connect via USB?

A couple of days ago I was at my friend's place playing the new Street Fighter for PS3, it has the same characters and moves and plus some others and some new characters. It looks like it's made in 3D with a 2D overcoat, I first saw the kind with XIII a PC FPS game I played some years ago.

Does anyone have a fightpad? I'm just curious about how you set up the buttons. I line up LP, MP, HP in a row and LK, MK, HK. I don't know the best functions for the shoulder buttons. Throw? Focus Attack? Or one of the combos?

shumway 04-03-09 10:04 AM

Re: Street Fighter 4 Announced

I don't have a fightpad, but, I do like to keep either focus or throw on my bottom shoulders. Since yours is lined up well and you won't need to have a button for all 3 punches or kicks do go w/ throw on one and focus on the other. Makes sense to me.

I remember reading a couple month's ago that a 360 stick would not work on a PS3, but there might be an adapter that gets the job done

Re: Street Fighter 4 Announced

360 stick and PS3 sticks are not compatible, outside of homebrewed solutions like arcade in a box.

I think it's cheaper just to rebuy SSF2 Remix on the other console... :)

My HRAP is the primary reason why I bought SSF2 Remix, Soul Calibur IV, and SF IV on the PS3.

Is it really that difficult to make an arcade stick that can work with both consoles with a USB?
