may get a slim PS2

I'm thinking of getting a slim.Because I think my fatty is scratching my game discs.
If I get rid of my Fatty I'm going to trade it in for credit at gamestop towards a Slim.
Also I want to get a slim because the discs load like on the PS1.

Ok here are a few questions:

1. Does the newest model of the Slim PS2 work good?
2.Does the slim have good backwards compatibility?
3.How warm does the slim get?

1. Works just fine! It even has the added capability of Progressive Scan playback of DVDs!

2. As good as the fat PS2.

3. Stays pretty cool actually.

You think Sony will drop the price of the slim for this holiday shopping season?

Yes.

I'd bet on $99.

Thanks for answering my questions guys.

I have 2 more questions.

1.If I trade in my PS2 now. Can I save the credit until december when they go down to $99?

2.If I chose to wait until the slim PS2 goes down to $99 will I get less credit for my fat PS2?

1. In most places you can retain the credit till whenever you want to purchase something there. Call your local store to confirm that.

2. The longer you wait to sell your PS2 the less it'll be worth. These aren't collectors items, they're obsolete. I would maybe consider finding out how much you could get for it on Craigslist as opposed to GameStop.

About the slim.. I found the drive to be a lot quieter than on my PS2 fat which was a blessing. I haven't run into any compatibility issues with either PS1 or PS2 games. Also the compact size is great!

I wouldn't count on Sony dropping the price. The PS2 is still selling better than both the 360 and PS3. Sony really has no incentive to drop the price since PS2 sales are still going strong. It could happen, but I really wouldn't count on it.

Their incentive is arriving in roughly 23.5 hours...

I don't know about that. I don't think the market of people still buying PS2s are in the market to buy a next-gen console as well. I don't think Halo 3 will have a noticeable impact on PS2 sales. Sony's competitor to the 360 is the PS3, not the PS2.

Well I traded in my Fat PS2 and got:
Return To Castle Wolfenstein
The Two Towers
The Return Of The King
Wild Arms 3
TimeSplitters

Would have gotten The Fellowship Of The Ring but they didn't have it.

So what do you think?

Well it looks like Wild Arms 3 might not work. I tried copying it to my hardrive to see if all the data was ok. I got an error why copying the disc. I did that because there were some big scratches on the disc.

Do you think getting it resurfaced would help?

Certain newer models of the slimline PS2 broke compatibility with some PS1 games, including Lunar 2: Eternal Blue. FYI.

I personally never liked the slim. Hard to find the eject button, not stackable like the original, etc. Glad I ditched it for a PS3. I considered trading it for an original PS2 a few times but that didn't seem like a good move at this point.

What kind of CD/DVD tray/drive does the slim silver PS2 use? Is it a top-loading, CD boombox style tray that makes the scratching of discs an impossibility?

It is top loading. That is why I want a slim PS2. Because it won't
scratch discs.
