What is the best controller for FPS's?
So far I've been useing the dual shock 2 to play (GRAW and Hitman blood money)it seems to be working pretty good.
I'm going to get Call of Duty 1,2,3 in the mail this week hopefully. Will the regular controller work pretty good with them?
So what is the best FPS controller for the PS2?
Also is the Edge FX anygood(haven't been able to find one though)?

I never had any luck with third party PS2 controllers expect the Logitech wireless. It's layout is the same as the dualshock so it doesn't feel much different. I say stick with the dualshock.

^ 360 to be more precise.

Agreed with both the Wii and 360, the dual shock/ps1 - 3 pads are by far the worst controllers for FPS games.
As for which pad to use with a PS2, try finding one that doesn't have the analogue sticks right next to each other... if they exist.

You could always try the Splitfish FragFXon the PS2 or PS3 (SRP: $60 for wired, $70 for bluetooth wireless). IGN gave it a
glowing review and said it gave an edge in Resistence.

That FragFX controller looks interesting, but I couldn't see anything in the review addressing the "dead zone" issue. Since most console games are made for a controller the "dead zone" is the invisible box which separates just moving your reticle vs. moving your entire view. I would think the games would need to be designed for it, still it would be better than a controller IMO. It looks like the PS2 version is called the EdgeFX.
I wish Sony/Microsoft would have keyboard/mouse as an option in games, and an option could be added in multiplayer games to include/exclude keyboard and mouse players to make it fair for those with controllers. I would probably give up pc gaming if that were the case.

I think the 360 controller is a great controller, but the perfect controller for FPS's? I can "handle shooters with it", but the precision and speed with any controller is still lacking.

I think the perfect controller would be something like the Splitfish mentioned above. I don't like moving around with arrow keys, but I do like the precision movement of the mouse. Combine a joystick with a mousepad would be nice if you could somehow get the buttons everywhere.
I like the Wii setup, but I have to admit that it does get annoying having your hand in the right position or the screen starts to move everywhere when you're putting your controller down or adjusting yourself.

I always thought the PS2 controller sucked for FPS games. The 360 controller is good - but it's still a controller.

I don't mean to be an ass but I don't understand what's so hard about it? You use the right stick to aim and the left stick to walk around. You use the triggers to shoot and zoom in. No fumbling around with keyboard controls. It's really about being uncoordinated enough that you can't use a controller. It's not a slam against anyone. I can't dunk a basketball, but it doesn't mean I'm inferior.

If the controller is such a good interface, why is there an auto-aiming mechanism built into some(probably all...the few I've played have had it) console FPS games?

For people that can't handle it.
Alls I'm saying is I've never had any troubles moving from Keyboard and mouse to a controller. Like House said the controller makes some things like moving around easier.

Dual stick controllers have made FPSs work fairly well on consoles, but it is making the best out of a bad situation.
