So if you loved NG1, you will love NG2. If you hated NG1, you will hate NG2.

I have played games with shit cameras before (Buffy: Chaos Bleeds I'm looking at you!) and never had a problem with the camera in the NG games. I've never understood that criticism.

The camera doesn't bother me a whole lot either, but I do see why some people complain about it. Sometimes the camera would get into a position where Ryu is off-screen for a second or two. A game should never put you into a position where you can't see your own character, especially a game where even the common enemies are deadly adversaries.

The worst part about the camera is how it swings around while you are doing a platforming segment. You can line up a jump, and then right before you actually jump, the camera swings around and you are suddenly jumping in the wrong direction. That has happened to me numerous times. The part towards the end of the game where you have to wall run/jump up the inside of that tall slender column in a spiral-like fashion is the worst offender. You get halfway up the column when the camera decides to move around causing you to either mistime a jump or jump in the wrong direction. You fall all the way to bottom of the column and have to do it all over again. The actual platforming isn't hard; it is the camera swinging around that makes it hard.

If the camera is exactly the same as it is in NG1/Black/Sigma, then I'll be fine with it. Can't wait to try it out tomorrow.

House 06-03-08 02:57 PM

ok wtf, so I'm looking around the internet and all the stores are saying it's released tomorrow and not today. Is this true?

Typically VG "release dates" are really ship dates. Most retailers have them the following business day.

Rarely is a game high profile enough to warrant a more accurate street date.

House 06-03-08 03:17 PM

normally the games are in stores on Tuesdays, this blows.

Is that a fact? What games have normally been in stores on Tuesdays? As I said, high profile games... Your GTAs, your Halos, your Marios, your Wii Fits, etc have a more well-defined street date. The large majority follow this release pattern.

You might be thinking of DVDs and CDs, not video games.

I agree it's not normal, but Lego Indiana Jones is on store shelves today.

That's true. In fact, the weekly ads actually made special mention of when they'd have this game. They typically don't do that as "release dates are subject to change" due to shipping and production variables that can occur after the ads go to print. Lego Indy, like it or not, was obviously considered a higher-profile release by the publisher and/or retailers than NG2.

Well I guess it's just coincidence that every game I have bought for the last 8 years I was able to on a Tuesday.

It also depends on where you buy as much as what you buy. Some places are better about putting out shipments as they get them in the afternoon, like Gamestop/EB. TRU around here is really good too.

Other places unload their trucks overnight, like BB, Target, etc.

You'd think a ninja, of all things, would be faster...

House 06-03-08 03:48 PM

No doubt, I remember last generations NG was released on a Tuesday.

I'll be damned. He's right!

March 2, 2004 - Tuesday!!!!

taffer 06-03-08 04:02 PM

Every game has a 1 in 7 chance of being released on a Tuesday...

I like those odds!

Supermallet 06-03-08 08:22 PM

I'll never understand the "release date is really the ship date" thing for video games. Why not call the release day Wednesday if you know you're not shipping it out until Tuesday?

RichC2 06-04-08 07:47 AM

I always thought it was kind of wonky myself.

But yeah, most don't ship until the Tuesday of their given week, generally stores get them on Wednesday (some on Thursday) though if you live close to a distribution center, you may get it on the ship date.

ABates21 06-04-08 07:57 AM

It was released in some stores yesterday. My local Gamestop had them in last night as my buddy bought a copy. I think a lot of it has to do with the store employees and if they go to to the local distribution center and pick up the games early.

House 06-04-08 08:55 AM

I was able to get the game last night at Gamestop and I didn't even have it on preorder!! :) The game is amazing. Very hard like the first one, but amazing. I stayed up until 1 playing it.

metalhead212 06-04-08 04:03 PM

I believe the release day is called that as it is "released" to the stores for sale on that day. It doesn't mean the stores will have it on that day, it just means that, on that particular day, the trucks will start rolling. Some may end up getting it earlier than others. It is just the luck of the draw I guess.

As video games get to make more money they need to streamline it to the consumer habit of new release DVDs and CDs and set a day like a Tuesday to release on. We have been trained over many years to expect that - they need to tap into that urge rather than a date representing when the company loads it on trucks rather than the sell date.

Wick 06-04-08 08:24 PM

I was able to get a copy last night. A local EB Games store got it in, but they didn't unpack it until sometime in the evening. I got there just before close (after calling ahead,) and secured a copy. I wanted to finish Uncharted before I started any new game(s,) so I haven't played it yet. I might tonight.

slop101 06-05-08 11:21 AM

I played this for a couple hours last night (got half-way through the 2nd chapter), and I had a fucking blast with it. Sure there are some camera issues here and there, but they absolve themselves by putting in a lot of check-point saves. This does wonders to cut down on the potential frustration of the game - if you die, you don't have to backtrack much, if at all. It makes for a less stressful, more enjoyable experience as I wasn't worried as much about dieing, so I was able to get more into the game, and I actually played better than I would have otherwise. The controls are spot-on and I love the staff weapon. This is the action game I've been waiting for after being disappointed by Devil May Cry 4.

House 06-05-08 02:04 PM

Ya I agree this game blows DMC4 out of the water. The staff is a sweet weapon, I have fallen in love with the claws. I have them maxed out, and they tear @#@ up. I just picked up duel handed swords, I don't like them very much. I haven't had a chance to use them much either though. I would definitely make the switch to the claws though. It's worth it. The attack is blazing fast, and powerful once they are maxed out. The only thing they lack is range, but this is easily made up by the jumping dash attack, I'm not sure what the games name is for it.

Supermallet 06-05-08 04:44 PM

If you liked NGI, you're going to like NGII. It seems the graphics got the biggest upgrade, because everything else feels pretty much exactly the same. On one hand, it's nice to know that you're going to get a high quality gaming experience. On the other, it would have been nice to see a little change aside from new weapons. Still, I'm having a lot of fun with it, and that's what's important.
