Some PSP Questions

I plan on buying a PSP soon and I need a few things answered :)
1. I need to buy a memory stick to put videos onto the PSP, right?
2. Can I use my computer to charge the battary{like I can with my Ipod Nano}?

And finally, any recommendations for games/UMDs? I was thinking about getting either Ghost Rider or NHL 07. Don't know about UMDs though.

Anyways, any help would be apperciated:)

1)You need a Memory Stick Pro Duo for videos/pics/mp3s/saves.
2)The current PSPs come with a wall adapter, however some stores carry USB chargers you can purchase.

A new PSP "slim" is supposed to be released soon, maybe before the holidays, one redesign allows it to be charged via it's usb port with an A to mini B USB 5pin cable.

Circuit City is selling a 2 GB SanDisk one for $35 shipped. That's a pretty good deal and should be plenty big enough. I can fit four feature length movies on one stick and still have room for saves.

Among my favorite games are Ratchet & Clank, Metal Gear Portable Ops (now $20), GTA Vice City Stories, Lumines II, Wipeout Pure and Syphon Filter. Except R&C, they're all $20 now. There are a lot of good games for the system, even if they don't sell very well.

1) get a 4 gig memory stick, it should be sufficient in most cases

2) You can get a USB charger cable to charge up your PSP from your computer. I do that at work all the time. :)

What do you use to convert your movies onto the psp memory stick? I'm also planning on getting the slim version.

That's a touchy issue here. Might I suggest :google:

Once you have any sort of movie or video on your hard drive, though, use PSP 9. It's a free program that works very well and is easy. It is time consuming, though and the whole process can take a couple of hours.

IGN has more info here.

Not to thread Hi-jack but can anyone tell me whether or not UMD's from overseas (UK, Australia, Etc...) will work in US PSPs?

And it rhymes:D

No. Games work. UMDs from other reigons don't.

Thanks Decker. Sux, but It is what it is.

Do you know what the price of a used MS from Gamestop would be?

Jedi Master 33 08-31-07 04:44 AM

This is the memory stick I need to get to play videos right?

Correct.

Keep in mind though, that it doesn't have to be a Sony brand, Sandisk works just as well.

Other than ebay, just look around online for whoever offers the best deal. A search on Amazon for Pro Duo has a 4gb for $50 shipped as one of the results.

Jedi Master 33 08-31-07 06:24 AM

Ok. thanks.

Ocelot 08-31-07 10:22 AM

heck, go with the Lexar, 4gb for $35 shipped (outpost). Not sure it's still in stock though. i got two of those, worked great (transferring HD video from camcorder to the PS3 effortlessly...)

buy the new PSP slim

You could get the new PSP slim instead, it's coming out in September and it has many improvements over the regular PSP available now.
You can pre-order the Bundled Ice Silver PSP slim that comes with the Daxter game, a 1GB Memory Stick, a Family Guy UMD, a Battery and Wall charger at Amazon.com right now for $199, no tax and free shipping, not a bad deal.

Fok 08-31-07 11:34 PM

Any idea's when in Sep the new psp slim is being released?

Decker 09-01-07 01:04 AM

September 10th. Personally, I'm waiting until October 9th to get the Star Wars PSP Bundle that comes in white and with SW Battlefront Renegade Squadron game; it's also $199.99. The core will remain at $169.99 and remains in black. Here's the three packages available :

Just for grins, here is the super-rare Japan-only FF Crisis Core model:

In Europe it'll come in a Simpsons Yellow model with The Simpsons Game and a Spider-Man Red one with Spider-Man 2 game and Spider-Man 3 BR Disc. Can't find a good picture of those yet. This was the best I could find :

I'm probably in for the Daxter one. A 1GB stick will be fine for now I just want to play some Jeanne D'arc.

Jedi Master 33 09-03-07 09:26 AM

Yeah, I got my PSP the other day. I brought a 1GB MS off of Ebay. Does anyone know how much the 2GB are at Costco?

No offense, but you might want to hang onto that receipt. There's pretty much universal acceptance that the newer version that will be on shelves in ONE WEEK is superior and the base model is the same price. Unless you got a deal or bought one used, I'd say return and re-buy.

And watch out for MS on ebay; there are a lot of substandard knock-offs for sale there. And I'm sure you'll get a better deal on a MS from Amazon or Buy.com over Costco where they tend to be overpriced (albeit returnable).

Hey Decker, little highjack here... got any video game magazines (any age, any system, as long as they cover a console or handheld, e.g. Game Informer, OXM, PSM, Nintendo Power, etc.) that you want to get rid of? :)

Deb, I was swimming in them here. Took a bunch to recycling last week. I suppose I can start saving some up for you. Don't you get a ton for free from the internet like I do?

here's a year of EGM : http://www.valuemags.com/freeoffer/egmvm.asp

Aaaaargh :( Can't you go get them back? :) What subscriptions do you get? I haven't kept up in free subscriptions. Do you have any other free or cheap subscription links? How many are there? Here are the ones I know about:

OXM
PSM
Nintendo Power
EGM
Game Informer

Gamepro and that other XBOX died, I believe.

BTW that link was awesome !!! more more more! :) If it does come through that was a great offer.

Fok 09-04-07 09:12 AM

I wonder if this will be a sell out and hard to find
