As I said, I already have a wireless bridge I used for my original Xbox. So I'm not stupid, I am well-aware of what the options are. For me it was worth it.
Suit yourself. I'll stick with my $40 USB wireless adapter that plugs right in, is small, and does not require a seperate unit, powercord and ethernet cable.

I see that I can plug my XBox to my laptop, and the XBox will use the laptop's wireless signal... but online directions seem to vary. Has anyone here done this themselves?

(I have Vista)

What are the steps to find out if your router will work? And what do I plug into the 360, a USB wireless adapter? Thanks!

With XP you would just have to enable sharing on the connection that has the actual internet access. Unsure on steps with Vista.

When I was thinking of getting my 360, I searched all over the internet and couldn't find specifics on what non-microsoft branded wireless adapter would work. I ended up going the wireless bridge route instead, which will serve me well when I get my 20 gig PS3 this fall.

How do you enable wireless bridge? I have a speedbooster dlink router. So all I do is enable the bridge and put a USB wireless adapter on the 360? If I have the HD DVD drive, can I put it in the USB port there? I also have the wired guitar... do I have to unhook the USB adapter whenever I want to play guitar hero?

Any recommendations for cheap usb adapters? I've found them for $12 or so on eBay shipped. Thanks!

Nope. You would keep your primary router, then buy an older model Linksys or other that can run DD-WRT or tomato, for instance and then set that up as a wireless bridge. You would then connect the 360 to one of the ports on the back of the wireless bridge via ethernet cable. It's not overly difficult, but, may be more work than you would like.

I had a linksys wireless bridge for my original XBOX and I had all kinds of problems. I ended up purchasing the 360 adapter that snaps on the back and I have not had any more issues. It was worth it to me to have it always work.

Wait, you want to spend money and time setting up a wireless bridge to replace a twelve inch cable?

Unless I'm missing something, the wireless bridge would still have a cable running to the Xbox!

That's because I didn't know what a bridge was, I thought I could put a USB WiFi adapter and have it connect to my existing router Now that I know what it is, the ethernet cable is staying

Well I was using the 360 Wireless Adapter but had to go back to a wired connection when I renovated the garage-to-rec room and the signal wouldn't pass thru all the walls (two plau one brick). But when I did have it connected it worked and it wasn't bad configuring it right. I still have it even though I put it up for sale several months back here and it still is.

I tried the bridge root, never could get it to work. Ended up buying the adapter for 60 bucks off craigslist.

I tried the bridge trick and it worked, but my connection was so bad I decided to fork over the money any way and pick it up. I seriously can't complain at all about my connection speeds with it. I just wish there was a way to set your xbox to auto open your NAT when it detects that it isn't open any more for whatever reason.

I'm pretty sure that it's the same thing with Vista.
