I'm about 25% of the way through Echoes, and I'm enjoying it. I took a break to play through BioShock. If order doesn't matter too much, maybe I'll play through Corruption first and then go back and finish up Echoes. I don't think I have the self-control to not play Corruption once I have it in my hands. :D

I didn't think of this on my first reply, but based on the scant one-liner previews/reviews I've scanned, it might just be hard to go back based on how awesome the new control scheme is supposed to be. Just keep that in mind!

This is why I'm praying for a re-release (or director's cut) of MP 1&2 with the new control scheme. That's easily worth $50 as a compilation disc.

I'm not overly concerned about that, but maybe I should try and play through in order. I'll see how long my will can hold out...

Question: I haven't played a Metroid game since Super Metroid, and I don't particularly like first person shooters. I assume this is not a game I will enjoy?

Good assumption. This is the most FPS like Metroid so there is a good chance you won't. I admire the Prime series, but I did not finish the the first one and I still have the second one sealed on my shelf. I rarely like FPS games. Half Life 2 and Bioshock are rare exceptions and I can only play those on a PC.

I'll disagree (strongly) with the above. Metroid Prime is in the first person and you do shoot things, but it's far more Super Metroid than something like Halo. You still platform quite frequently, you still spend more time exploring, finding power-ups and exploratory items, etc. I'd suggest at the very least trying out the first Prime game, which you can get under $10 at any GameStop. Prime 3 probably inches closer to an FPS as the Wii remote controls put it closer to a keyboard/mouse combination, but everything thus far indicates it's still much more Metroid than FPS.

darkside 08-28-07 12:22 PM

There are certainly elements of Super Metroid in it, but the Prime series is based around all the things I dislike about playing FPS games. I don't see people liking this that don't like FPS games. There are minor Super Metroid elements in games like Halo and Bioshock and platforming in Half Life 2, but those games are still FPS games. This also holds true for the Prime series and especially the third one.

Groucho 08-28-07 12:34 PM

I haven't played MP3, but I've played a ton of FPS games, and Metroid Prime plays like none of them. If I had to compare it to something, I'd say it plays like a first-person Zelda 3D game (what with locking on to enemies, gathering power-ups, and such).

RichC2 08-28-07 12:45 PM

It's a lot like a first-person Metroid 3D game.

Great comparison and I concur, unless you are just absolutely against the actual first person perspective, it's worth a try. I am not an FPS fan by any means and I LOVE the Metroid Prime series, the first one is the reason I came back to gaming, after I had given it so much shit for months for being an FPS. After finally actually playing it, it knocked me off my ass and made me buy a GameCube and the game at 2 AM at a Wal*Mart.

MP1 remade with Wii controls, I would easily pay $50 for. MP2, not so much. The dark world stuff just annoyed the hell out of me.

Only 3 more hours of work, and hopefully MP3 will be mine! If not, I guess I can finish up my first playthrough of Super Metroid tonight. Great game.:D

The first Prime game was for the GC? If I can find it for that cheap, I might give it a shot- better than spending $50 on the new one and realizing I hate it.

PixyJunket 08-28-07 03:26 PM

Thirty more minutes! Now, if I can manage to stay awake to at least play a little bit..

slop101 08-28-07 04:32 PM

I wonder how playing this back-to-back with Bioshock (which I'm about halfway through) will effect my perception of either game.

Giantrobo 08-28-07 04:47 PM

Well I didn't think I'd do it but I picked this game up on an impulse. I was in Gamestop and they had copies so I did it. After I eat I'm going to pop it in and see what the deal is. I have Metroid Prime and based on the controls it's ok. I'm hoping this game made for the Wii controls will be good.

DRG 08-28-07 04:57 PM

Okay, so if I was a big fan of Metroid, Super Metroid, and whatever that one for the first Gameboy was called... but have never played any of the other Prime games, will this be hard to jump into? I don't mind FPS-type games if they're done right.

How did you get it at Gamestop? They always tell me that you won't get it for weeks if you don't preorder.

SuperBatMan 08-28-07 05:13 PM

Just got home, and with Metroid in hand! They also had 6 Wiis, the most I've seen in store in the whole time it's been available.

Now , time to eat a little bit and strap in for some Metroid!:D

That's the thing, I was just in doing my usual used game deal check and this woman came in to pick up MP3. He asked if she had reserved it and she said no. He then said that it was ok because they had several extra copies. Since I wanted a Wii game I figured why not? So I asked him for a copy. I'm sure it's easy to find but since I was there I just bought it. Mind you, I didn't even know it was out today.

outer-edge 08-28-07 05:57 PM

Well, I found this at Wal-Mart yesterday night and am enjoying it so far. I'm already saying, "I'll just see what's through this door," and playing another hour or two.

Giantrobo 08-28-07 06:13 PM

So did anyone have to do an Update after putting the MP disc in? I put the disc in and it didn't show up on the game channel. So I clicked the channel and a "Initiating System Update" window popped up. The the game showed up in the channel after the screen rebooted.

I wonder what that was about?

SuperBatMan 08-28-07 06:23 PM

I had to do an update too.

I LOVE THIS GAME! I just got past the beginning. The controls are the shit on advanced. I'll be late tonight.:D
