Strikers is actually ridiculous in the difficulty department. so much so that it gets extremely unrealistic

If that's the case, then I could understand the argument, but this is a hypothetical statement. The other metroids never suffered from this |

I'm not claiming it is easy or hard. I've played it exactly twice since I bought it. Just using your argument. Not everyone wants the same thing out of a game. Some people like leisurely strolls. Some people like Ninja Gaiden romps. Some people like deep stories. Some people like to skip that and get to the game. To each his own, but don't sit there and pretend that there's only one way to enjoy a game. |

You couldn't run into an area and blindly flail your sword around because every health point you had was crucial, it was more important to not get hit then to hit them. In Army of Zin you just keeping pounding away at the X button until you've beat a group of fifty skeletons (the "win button" theory in grand practice). It felt like they ignored any and all positive reception to the first game and built the second solely to appease Jimmy Jo Bob who couldn't get past the second level (and therefore was never going to buy the sequel). What a surprise that the third game was aborted a few months into production..

Four more days. :grunt:

Here's some art that was to be for Maximo 3 and some of the (original?) Streetwise designs: http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=75300 |

Or so the story goes, anyway. Typical corporate, publisher horse shit. And then they disbanded Clover. Oh, Capcom.

So this comes out in just a few days, and (Nintendo Power aside) there's still not a single review of it out there? What the dilly-o?

Embargos.
|
The IGN site says their review will be up at 12:01 AM on Monday. They also have an article on the history of Metroid which is a pretty good read:
http://games.ign.com/articles/815/815011p1.html However, be warned that on page 3 they reveal a pretty big spoiler for Metroid Prime 3. |

Fuck tomorrow.. I hope GameStop gets it in tonight. :(
|
Played this last night at a Wii demo kiosk at EB. Liked it enough to pre-pay it. Control feels pretty spot on. Graphics (judging from the intro section I played, and this was the full retail game) were ok. Nothing really jumped out, but it may have been the environment at the beginning (standard spaceship interior) which is similar to the Halo intro level.
I do hope that this control scheme becomes more prevalent with future FPS's on the Wii. |
I was planning on picking this up at BB tomorrow in anticipation of my FV order being slow, but with the purchase of a new TV that I haven't set up yet (painting living room first - need to wait for Labor Day sale on Behr :brickwl2:), I think I'm going to wait until I can get some good 16:9, 480p at 46" rather than 4:3, 480i at 27". Call me crazy...
|
Oh snap, did you get the 4661?!
If so, then by all means hold out for the week! |
Yes, I did. It's just sitting in the office boxed up waiting for the painting to be done and the new credenza to arrive. The PS3 also remains boxed upon the LCD box. It's hell.

Cool. I've already got the component cables thanks to Amazon selling the official ones for like $12 a couple months ago.

A few to tide you over till tomorrow...

8.5 from Gamespot, 9.6 from GameTrailers (.1 higher than BioShock).

I'm not sure the Bioshock comparison is fair or relevant, unless it was the same reviewer. They are different games for different audiences on different consoles. Besides, .1 can be attributed to simple selection bias...one reviewer's 9.5 might be another's 9.6...and when you get into the high nines, it's all semantics anyway. If I thought I could trust a 360 not to break, Bioshock probably would have put me over the edge, as it looks like an amazing game...for a first person shooter. |
The really cool thing is that the Wii has another system seller besides Zelda...not that they're having trouble selling systems...but it might, at least, shut the naysayers up for a bit.

I just played for about an hour and a half, and I've gotta say the game is mega sweet so far. The controls are taking a bit of getting used to but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it :D . The first boss was already a pain in my ass but I was able to figure him out without too much trouble.

It'll also keep you busy for a while, since you can earn tokens for completing various tasks and use them to purchase unlockable goodies like concept art and bumper stickers for Samus' ship. While the lack of multiplayer is disappointing, the single-player campaign won't leave you wanting. In the end, you may not be able to shake the feeling that you've done all this before, but it will still make you grateful for how great it is at its core.

But regardless, I just hope this is better than Echoes. |
History in two parts (kinda spoilerish) I open the store tomorrow so I get to play during my break!
Part 1 Part 2 |
Sigh, I have to get through work, and then hope my WalMart has it in stock, as it's the only store that sells games that's not a long drive.
