Let's say you're playing a sports game, but you're not playing against a live opponent. What do you call the game? Are you trying to beat the computer? Machine? Game? System? Does it depend on the game? Now I know some games have bots, and you would say you're fighting the bots, but what else do you refer to it by?

I think for the most part when I'm losing I either say "this fucken game is cheating" or "the fucken computer cheats." I always thought it was weird that my friend would refer to it as the machine. So what do you say?

Well, when I'm playing a sports game, I'll just cuss out the actual players from the other team. So if I'm playing hockey and the "computer" is the Ducks, I'll throw out a "Fuck you Pronger!" ever chance I get.

Computer is all I call it and I rarely get mad at it.

For one, it never calls me a faggot or any of the other nice slurs used online when I win and it doesn't exploit every flaw in the game to cheat.

I might be into online gaming if I knew enough people that I could actually play games with on a regular basis, but I don't and I prefer playing multiplayer in the same room with my kid. At least if he calls me a faggot for winning I can backhand him.

Usually when I play sports games I play a season against the CPU and I have 100 times more fun than I ever had online. I guess if I ever did get mad at the computer I would call him Fred. I went to school with a guy named Fred and he was a total douche.

Either computer or something more colorful and non-pc if I'm losing.

As an aside, I think it's so strange but so cool that Nintendo has developed this intricate Mario mythology that develops from game to game.

If I'm playing like an EA sports game, and, I'm up by say 3 touchdowns with like 2 minutes left, and, the computer keeps making my star player fumble and then throwing bombs, etc, and it becomes one of the, to quote Simmons, "No EFFING Way game" then I might say something like... This damn game cheats.

computer, some games really will piss me off tho. like if i need them to follow me or do something, they always run into fucking gun shots and get killed in the cross fire or drown on me.. thats why i try to play with human players

Computer, or sometimes "the damn cheating A.I."

Yeah it's funny with the talk about cheating of human opponents... but you just know, especially with some of the earlier AI, they're using all sorts of insider information, getting better drops at the right time, etc. etc. Making a good AI is pretty difficult, so literally having the AI cheat to make it competitive against a human opponent is pretty standard, sadly.
