Red Ring of Death

i was just playing Halo 2 yesterday and it froze on me. I shut it off and tried to play today but it froze at the menu screen. I rebooted the Xbox and I got the Red Ring. We just bought Halo 2 new. What do I do?

Halo 2 is the least of your problems.

I don't think anyone would assume that Halo 2 caused the problem.

I got my first 360 in late January. It had the red rings within a week and a half.

I got my second 360 in early February. It lasted until the end of May.

I got my third 360 in late June. I had some graphical problems last week, but they seem to have gone away on their own (knock on wood).

My point, I guess, is that having a 7-month old 360 die is, sadly, not unusual.

My 360 was purchased in early February and so far I haven't had a single problem. I have a launch version of the original Xbox, which still works, so hopefully my good luck will continue.

apparently the issue is with the air cooling in it. Apparently the motherboard would bend when it got extremely hot, making the chip come loose from the board as it's right where the board bends. The new 360's they are releasing soon have two fans in it to cool better from what i hear

Does anyone know the cheat code to go straight to the Red Ring of Death? It sounds like some people have to play an awful lot to get there.

I'm on my 2nd 360 and my Original Xbox died within days of my 1st 360 purchase back in April 06.

I had to close that after seeing a $ in Microsoft and the term "noobing" in the first two lines. Ugh.

A real Nerd would have been expecting it to break.

I got the RROD the other day when I was playing during a severe thunderstorm. We had a brownout, and then I saw the red rings. I about shit my pants, because I've got it plugged in through a surge protector and all that. I turned it off and turned it back on and it booted to the dashboard fine. I went ahead and unplugged the power brick until the storm passed, and it's been a few days now with no problems.

A surge protector doesn't help against brownouts. Only SURGES. Probably wasn't a good idea playing during a storm. I unplug everything while thunderstorms are going on.

What I've heard is that Microsoft has been putting bigger, better heatsinks on the fan, which is what people have reported after opening up the console.

This is what I've been asking for a while now...just leave it running constantly until it burns out?

Go for the 7-Day Survivor Achievement in Dead Rising.
