Well, it's stating the obvious, but once someone points out the point values involved, it's like a lightbulb going off. Before, it's easy to shrug off dying and going on about your game. Now you realize the value of death not just in time wasted but in points missed and you try even harder not to die.
I rarely finish a full 5 minute round. I know that to achieve 350,000+ I can only die one-two times, maybe three times, max depending on the round. So if I'm dying a lot, there is a lot of quitting/restarting going on. |
In our group, whenever somebody starts getting the 50 point dots, we call it "rolling fiddies." -ohbfrank-

I've got the lines down pretty well now, but now my problem is controlling pac-man in that last minute when you start moving like a bat out of hell. I easily leave 10k-30k points on the table everytime I play just due to not being able to control pacs in that last minute or so. |
I use the minute mark audio cues to gauge how well I'm doing. I have targets of where I should be and how high my score should be.
4 minutes - starting what I call the "kidney bean" wave w/ 60K 3 minutes - finishing what I call the "butterfly" wave w/ 110K 2 minutes - In the middle of working on getting the ghosts at the key wave w/ close to 200K 1 minute - finishing the second "butterfly" wave w/ 250K 15 seconds - Candy stage There's a furious amount of scoring in those last 15 seconds... |
Behold, a 508k run. (not mine, of course):

All this time later, and I still don't get bored of looking at Pacman:CE runs.
That run is ridiculous. This player took some paths I've never seen before. |
I just downloaded the game last week and was struggling to break 300K. After watching those youtube vids I'm finally consistently getting over 300K now. Just had a near flawless run and scored 421,700!
But I just realized my damn rock band guitar was logged into my account so I was playing as a guest and the score didnt register!!! EDIT - Started playing again and after 10 restarts I hit 432,020!! (gamertag = mtn1337) |
damn... you suck. I still can't hit 400k and I've been playing for a year.

Fast forward 3-4 months....

So, do I win a cookie? At the very least you can update the scoreboard ;) |
Awesome. What's your gamertag?

Damn Cshot, as a former Pac-Man CE addict that's mighty impressive. I'm going to steal your patterns. :)
|
Very nice! I think I may have to give Pac Man CE another visit after watching your video :)
|
Wow! I bow down to your superior Pac-Man skills. I think you might have inspired me to try to get back into the DVDTalk top 20.
|
Woot, this puts me at #4 in the world....at least for now :)

Re: Pac-Man: Championship Edition
Will this ever come to Xbox One or Ps4? I missed playing this on the 360. I am still not understanding why they can't move the dl's over to the new systems. :(
|
Re: Pac-Man: Championship Edition
I don't think it would take much to port those games to the new hardware, but it isn't just copy/paste. The question is if there's a market for them to justify the effort. I would probably buy them again, but what I really want is a return of Pac-Man Vs. Surprise this isn't on the Wii U or mobile platforms using NFC.

Love this game. |
Re: Pac-Man: Championship Edition
Wasn't this recently de-listed from 360?

Re: Pac-Man: Championship Edition
You think with the movie Pixels coming out in 2 months. This would be a golden opportunity to market Pac-Man, for all console systems. But what do i know. :)
|
Re: Pac-Man: Championship Edition
Yeah I would buy this instantly on PS4
