I played the demo and it made my eyes hurt. Literally.

Just cracked 291k! I'm so pleased. I have no delusions of getting in the upper 300k region, but I would just like to get in there. Maybe I'll have some luck.

rabbit77 09-05-07 08:45 AM

Here's my personal best! Just got 351,800 yesterday. I probably missed an additional 30K due to stupid mistakes.

Does anyone else make the mistake of thinking their playing, when really it's just the replay?

My first minute or so hardly ever changes, so I'll think I'm playing until I go to make a different turn, or something only to get no response. I feel like an idiot each and every time.

BTW Nice run rabbit.

rabbit77 09-05-07 09:36 AM

My friend was over with his 3 year old and after my game I gave him the controller and we all thought he was a prodigy scoring over 200K, when we realized it was a replay.

Thanks boredsilly. I always do my best run when I'm not paying attention to how much time I have left vs. how deep I am into the boards. I didn't notice how well I was doing until around 20 seconds left when I saw I was getting to the candy stages and just started going after the ghosts; I think I would have done better if I just tried to get to the candy stage on both sides.

pinata242 09-12-07 01:24 PM

I don't know how I hit my 288k way back when. No matter how I try, I can't seem to break the 250-260k range.

Michael Corvin 09-12-07 01:32 PM

Same here. I'm out of practice. Only play it once a week now. Get around 310k. I was averaging about 350k. No idea how I hit 379k.

I think I might buy this with the 12,000+ points I have burning a hole in my pocket...

DVDChris 10-15-07 07:45 PM

Dang, where'd my score go. I just recently got into the 220's.

Michael Corvin 10-15-07 08:06 PM

Damn. Must have missed you. I'll check and add you back later.

Spiderbite 10-15-07 08:23 PM

Woah, I made the top 25 and I haven't played a ton. Looks like it is time to practice! So are the scores posted above for the first game?

People who score over 300k amaze me. You have to be in the Pac-man zone to score so well.

rabbit77 10-15-07 08:32 PM

Hi Michael, here's my score of 351800 (youtube link for proof!)

Michael Corvin 10-15-07 09:12 PM

Send me a friend invite Rabbit.

brianluvdvd, 300 is cake. 350 is a challenge, 400+ is a whole other level.

I just got 350k earlier, put me at #13 for the freshly started week. I just fell out of the top 100 with my high score. I'm down to 101. On the bright side I made the top 100 on Super Pac-Man on the Sprint leaderboards.

Michael Corvin 10-16-07 08:45 AM

Finally getting my shit back together. Nailed a 333k, a 350k and finally a 359k last night.

PixyJunket 10-16-07 08:50 AM

I know it's small, but it annoys me how I have to select the hard drive every time I play Pac-Man. Actually, that annoys me on every game.. I wish the fall update implemented some kind of "default storage device" but I'm afraid it seems game specific since Project Gotham Racing 4 either never asked me to select one or did it once and then kept it as the default.

mkdevo 10-16-07 09:50 AM

corvin, can you add me please? i'll be in that top 30 if so..

davepeck

thanks.

Michael Corvin 10-16-07 09:51 AM

That's not small, it drives me insane every time. Ok, insane is an overstatement, but still.

Also, DAMN IT! This close, and still outside of the top ten.

Has anyone else, not really bothered with the other modes? I'm sure they're fun, but the main 5 minute run mode is so perfect I just can't be bothered with the others just yet. Maybe someday.

Michael Corvin 10-16-07 11:08 AM

Until Troz came along I tried to maintain the high score in each mode here. :) I gave them all a shot last night and couldn't come close to my high scores. None of them were as fun as the main mode.

rabbit77 10-16-07 12:09 PM

I bothered with the other modes just to get the 400K and Get the Crown achievements. The one mode where you can get many many crowns is the only other fun one IMO.

The other night I pulled a Houdini where I went through the warp and there was a ghost heading through the same warp on the other side - and we both crossed complelety off the map at the same time, and I made it to the other side without dying! I don't think I'll be able to duplicate that ever again if I tried.

I finally hit the 200s last night. If 300 is cake, I need to eat what you are eating. Geez...I don't see how anyone gets over 400k but 300k sure seems hard with just 5 minutes.

Amazing for that guy that has the #1 spot at around 619,000! That must have been a perfect game.

Any tips? Do you guys with the high #s concentrate on eating ghosts or just try to get as many fruit/prizes as possible and eat ghosts when you can?

Does anyone else wish they had included a normal play mode on this game so you can play longer than 10 minutes? I hate always having to play a timed game.

And where are you guys for Ms. Pac-man. I was surprised to see so little of my friends here who have CE but no Ms. Pac-man. :(

Michael Corvin 10-17-07 08:44 AM

- the #1 spot at 619,000 is a glitch. The #2 player is the first legit score

- yes. I think everyone wishes there was an untimed mode.

- Ms. Pac-Man is my all time favorite coin-op game. Haven't played it in a while due to the perfection that is CE.

- tips:
  • String the first 6 power pellets together to get you near the 55,000 mark going into power pellets 7 & 8.
  • After that just focus on regular pellets and follow the paths they create, as well as the fruit.
  • Forget chasing ghosts, it wastes too much time. The risk/reward isn't worth it.
  • focus on half of the board at a time. Clear one before heading to the other side.
  • always clear one, then the other so your fruit matches. Don't keep clearing the same side.
  • go back to focusing on the ghosts when you get to the two keys which bring up 6 power pellets, and nets you 24 ghosts to eat successively. At your skill level I'd advise killing yourself near the middle so all the ghosts respawn in the middle to maximize points.
  • choose where you cross the map wisely. If you eat your last pellet near the middle, cross the middle. Near the sides? Use the side exits. Every second counts.
  • Most importantly? Don't die. Once you get going pellets are worth 50pts each. Everytime you die it resets to 10pts each. This is why you don't waste time chasing ghosts. If you are netting 50pts per pellet, you rack up more points faster than the ghosts are worth.

You should be close to 300k in no time. :)

I had no idea about this. Since I try not to die anyway...it won't help me much, but still nice to know.
