Remember when they said the DS was NOT the next Gameboy, and that they were still going to come out with another Gameboy someday? Whatever happened to that?

Sorry about that. What do you expect when you're an Ace Reporter and you have multiple windows open to post stories? I've fixed it.

I'm always down for a DS Castlevania, but I'm glad that they took a year off between releases this time.

The rumor going around is that the new DS game will link up to a upcoming WiiWare Castlevania.

They need to release the DS Channel already on the Wii.

IIRC, it's scheduled to launch in mid-May.

Most anticipated.

Proof that Japan gets everything awesome -- including first dibs on new releases, Super Famicom Classic Controllers, and giant mechas piloted by bratty kids -- the island country's Minna no Nintendo Channel (Everybody's Nintendo Channel) has started to post student-developed games in its DS downloads section.

For those of you unfamiliar with these titles, Nintendo hosts a 10-month seminar every year in which 40 students take courses on programming and game design, eventually working in teams to develop small DS games to be featured through download stations in Japan. This year's batch consisted of four different titles, including Wakerai no Heya Tsuzuki, a Hotel Dusk-styled horror adventure, and Nan de Momo Koko Yasan, a touchscreen coloring game.

Wakerai no Heya Tsuzuki has already been posted on the Japan-only (for now) Minna no Nintendo Channel, available for free until April 22nd. Presumably, the other three student-developed titles will be set up with a similar arrangement in the coming weeks. Though we doubt Nintendo of America will bring these Japanese releases over when it finally releases Everybody's Nintendo Channel in the states, at this point, we would be happy just to have the dang channel! It has been almost five months since the channel debuted in Japan!

Izuna 2 is coming out to the US.

ATLUS FIRES IZUNA, CLEARS HER SCHEDULE FOR IZUNA 2: THE UNEMPLOYED NINJA RETURNS ON NINTENDO DS

Romp Some Dungeons with the Cutest Ninja-for-Hire Around

IRVINE, California - April 16, 2008 - Atlus U.S.A., Inc. today announced Izuna 2: The Unemployed Ninja Returns for Nintendo DS(TM), starring everyone's favorite careless, jobless, and penniless female protagonist with a love for dungeon crawls. Combining zany characters and hilarious dialogue with hardcore dungeon RPG gameplay, Izuna 2 stands out from the crowd with its unique and memorable RPG experience. This sequel offers more game content, combat options, and RPG depth. Also, the lead character's a sexy, self-absorbed ninja.

Izuna 2: The Unemployed Ninja Returns is currently scheduled to release on July 22.

Key Features:
- Play hardcore with Izuna - Get in the action by combining down-and-dirty old-school dungeon RPG play with the cutest girl ninja ever, for a "stimulating" RPG experience.
- TAG team system - Take any two party members into a dungeon for a greater range of combat strategy. Combine power to unleash fierce TAG attacks.
- More Izuna than ever before - Get everything that made the original game a fan favorite, plus more! This bigger, better package includes more dungeons, items, enemies, characters, as well as a wacky new story, side quests, and TAG team system.

Izuna 2: The Unemployed Ninja Returns has been rated "T" for Teen with Mild Fantasy Violence, Mild Language, Suggestive Themes by the ESRB.

About Izuna 2: The Unemployed Ninja Returns
Izuna and her gang are back - and just in time for a wedding! Lured by the promise of free food (Why else would Izuna attend?), the festive event becomes a puzzling mystery when Izuna's sidekick Shino suddenly disappears, off in search of her long-lost sister. And making matters worse, the foreign gods have also arrived on Japanese soil, and they aren't very happy with the meddlesome, unemployed ninja. With disgruntled deities on the warpath, a sidekick to track down, and a missing sister out in the wild, it could all shape up to be one of Izuna's more exciting adventures. Sounds like a lot of work for a girl out of a job!

I wasn't a huge fan of the first one but I'm a huge sucker for roguelikes and I think with just some MINOR tweaks, the first game could've been awesome. So here's hoping that some or all of those tweaks have been addressed in the sequel.

So any word on how that new Squaresoft game is looking?

Also Pixy, in Shiren i just hit a village before the trials - the one with the third storage room. How close am i to the end?

Also, is there a shop to buy and sell things in that village?

The third town with a warehouse, Mountaintop Town, is before floor 15. Out of 30.

The village before the trials doesn't have a warehouse but does have a small shop.

Pixy, don't know why I'm even asking this question but is Izuna just as punishing as Shiren the Wanderer?

No, not really. I would assume that since your experience level is persistent that, eventually, any dungeon giving you an issue could be conquered through sheer brute force. The problem is that that's all the game is, brute force. You hack your way through each dungeon with little to no pause on any item that doesn't recover your HP or SP. It's enjoyable early on and in the shorter dungeons, but each dungeon gets longer and nothing really changes and it gets insanely tedious. If you get into trouble, there's no outs like Shiren has. There's barely any semblance of the scrolls and staffs in Shiren and what spells there are are both not very useful and drain your SP which is tied into how strong your attacks are.

I could've sworn that Stream Village was after floor 20 or 21. Just be sure to take the rest of the game slowly. Use your staffs wisely. Power Up scrolls are probably the best thing you could have for the last five or six floors (unless you bring in heavily melded weapons).

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD.

I finally did it. I finally beat the Kitchen God dungeon in Shiren the Wanderer.

After getting DESTROYED several times and REALIZING what I needed to do, I would still make really dumb mistakes (oh, I've got nine Bufu Staffs, I can deal with that Dadster Tank with my normal attacks). And boy what the perfect time to come out alive. I found a Walrus Jar early on and jacked three Bufu Cleavers from a shop, so I come out of the dungeon carrying FOUR of those beautiful pieces of meat making and six had Bufu Staffs on the side (heading to a Melding Jar near you, oh yes). Now I can calm the hell down and tackle the dungeons that I can take my +60 sword and +55 shield with me.

RESCUES ALL AROUND! ON THE HOUSE! DRINK UP EVERYONE!

Could you explain how to use the walrus jar and the melding jar?

I had a melding jar and threw in a bronzeward and then a +5 hide shield thinking i would get a bronzeward +5 with the properties of a hide shield (hunger reduction). When i broke the jar, i recieved nothing.

I'm playing this wandering game looking for a bird or something. I can't help anyone yet though since I don't know what I'm doing. However, I did cure someone blinded by a monster. I rescued a little girl. Fought off a bunch of monster and only died once. I believe I'm on level 9.

The one thing I find odd is that you can not back out of area. For example if you are in level 8 and go down to level 9 you can not go back to 8 which is odd for this type of game.

Yes you can. When you find the exit you have the choice of going forward or back, if you go back you go to the previous level.

The Walrus Jar is pretty simply, just aim it in the direction of an item and press it. You can't do it while INSIDE a shop, but there's definitely a way to get items out of the shop using it (hint, hint). For the Melding Jar, what you did is exactly right and should have worked. When you broke it were there other items all over the place? If it had nowhere to land it would disappear. Or if you had on a Pitcher's Armband the jar would have just flown off screen and be gone forever. That sounds odd because what you did was correct.

ahhhh I thought that the back was to stay in the current level. I guess I still find it odd that when you go down a stairwell you end up in a empty space instead of at a set of stairs you can go back.

Yeah that was my thought. So the walrus will steal in a straight line? It doesn't have to be adjacent to your character?

I did discover early on that you can't pick up the items and then use a switch staff on the shopkeeper to try to escape. You get your arse kicked.

That's pretty standard in roguelikes.

Yup. You could use them to grab items surrounded by water, for instance.
