How many 1st party franchises does Sony really have? God Of War, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, what else? As much as I love Ratchet and Clank, it's no system seller, I think only God of War might be considered as such.

Ive been gaming for a long time, and i know what kind of gamers go to what kind of system these days. The Xbox owners will never change, and thats how it is.

Not to mention "what kind of gamers go to what kind of system" is changing this generation. Partially due to a $600 system and a $250 system. The options are quite varied.

Then again, the GameCube was killing the Xbox in Japan last gen, didn't seem to help much.

Realize that this site is extremely hd-dvd biased, and that there ARE true blu-ray fans out there such as myself making purchases and supporting blu-ray, and posting on such hd-dvd biased sites like this to not let lies get in the way of peoples decisions. Keep on the good fight, cant wait for more releases, and thanks again for actually giving time for us, the readers here.

Japan loves zombies too, so Dead Rising is as much for them as it is for us. Lost Planet has mechs. Japan has almost a fetish love for mechs.

That is really the big problem right now. All three consoles have games I want to play that are excellent exclusives. It is just too expensive this time out to own all three. Especially with $59.99 game prices.

I have to agree, Dead Rising and Lost Planet were made for Western audiences. Not that there's anything wrong with that.. but Japanese gamers are more interested in adventures and RPGs, not big muscles and big guns. Of course, it seems like most of the traditionally popular Japanese-style games are flocking to the Wii and DS now, so it isn't exactly like Sony has the upper hand on MS in that regard.

I really want to make the HD DVD plunge, but two things are stopping me. First I hate the thought of replacing my DVDs, even though I would only replace a portion and not the whole collection. Second I am waiting for the format war to settle more.

if capcom says so than it must be true...
seriously all sony did was shoot themselves in the foot. when ps3 first came out it was 699.99. (canadian) what the hell were they thinking, people are loyal but not that loyal. the only reason ps2 has done so good it becasue it was selling for 299.99 and cheaper for most of the consoles run. that price drop back in 2002 set them up great.
i understand these companys want to make money but hardcore gamers and fanboys arnt your target audience because there just arnt enuff of them. its the casual gamers your targeting.
most people like myself want the best value for their dollar, i couldnt give a damn about bluray and high def because majority like myself are playing the system on a 15-20 inch televison with no high def compatability.
i could go on but im to lazy, bottom line until it reaches 399.99 canadian than i cant see myself getting one.
