Pre-E3 2007: Oblivion To Be Re-Released
New Game of the Year Edition to include additional content.
Just when you thought you were through, Bethesda Softworks is ready to bring you back in with its Game of the Year release of Oblivion.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition will incorporate all of the content found in a number of its downloadable updates, including the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine expansion packs. Shivering Isles adds an additional 30 hours of gameplay to the already massive base game, while Knights of the Nine features a new faction and a number of quests for noble characters to round out the "good guy" route a little more.
The Game of the Year Edition release will make use of existing save games, allowing gamers to pick up where they've left off if they already own the original Oblivion release.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition is scheduled for release this September.

That's why I waited all this time to buy the game, I figured this would come soon enough...Would be sweet if it included horse armor, but maybe they'll save that for "Game of the Year Redux Edition".

This really is not a surprise. Morrowind also has a Game of the Year edition with the original game plus both expansions all in one. I figured this would happen with Oblivion and its expansions too.

Seriously, what kind of marketing strategy is this? How many people are going to buy the game? I don't know the numbers, but Oblivion has to be one of the most-owned 360 games already. It just seems like a waste of alot of money to make something that is aimed at such a small audience, PLUS, if you're hoping to grab some sales on the double-dip, why release it the same month that Halo 3 is coming out? This re-release, if it had any chance at all, should've been out months ago, or at least released on the day that the Shivering Isles released.

-that's still only aiming at a 40% market
-how much of that market doesn't already have the game
-how many people (of that 40%) already own the game and will feel that the 2 expansions warrant a re-purchase
-how much of the 40% have interest in the game/genre
I just think that the time for this was when SI launched. Then you had the option of a $30 download, or for an extra $30 you could grab the whole game with the goodies. I doubt anyone that does have the expansions will buy this, but if it was released when SI hit, some loyals may have double-dipped.

well, even if they are targeting only the 40% that didn't have access to the online content (expansions) thats still about 4 million people, give or take.
If i was really into the game and wanted the expansions, I would ebay the old copy and just get the new GOTY when it drops

considering they charge about 10+ per expansion on LIVE, i'm really not surprised.
I wonder if bethesda gets a bigger cut on the expansions included in the game, as opposed to DL'n them on LIVE
anyone?

And these original game+expansion combo packs are very common, especially in the PC game market. If they didn't sell well, then the developers would not release them...
