So the does the 360 version have the same director options that the pc version has? For example can you put 50 witches in one room if you wanted on the 360 version.

It looks like the only checkpoints are the safe houses. I only died once in the first movie, so it wasn't a big deal. But I'd probably be pissed if I died towards the end of a stage and had to replay 20 minutes.

I know most people don't buy the game guides, but this one's really good. There's a lot of stuff that adds to the storyline. The maps look like they're hand drawn on scraps of paper. And there are tons of good tips. I didn't know what to expect since each game is unique, but this is one of the best game guides I've ever bought.

You can see a preview here (.pdf):

Is there any way to save your progress in a single-player campaign?

I went through 2 stages, then took a break and backed out to the main menu. Couldn't find a way to return to the game. Ended up selecting the next stage, and respawned in the same safe house, but with just a pistol and 100% health (like I was starting the game fresh).

What happens with the achievements? Do you have to play through a campaign all in one sitting, or do they just count all five stages completed?

They took it out when the game was released. I was going to open my 360 just to play the demo but I found out it was already gone...

Darn. I hate paying for a game without playing the demo first (PC not powerful enough). Also, I tend to be slow in getting to games (still haven't played Halo3 for example), so by the time I get into this no one will be playing anymore.

Still, co-op is my favorite part of gaming, so maybe I'll just plunge into it.

My theory is that they figure it's kinda like a sports game the way the game plays different each time, and enough people will just replay the demo over and over instead of buying the game, so they pulled it so that at least some of these cheapskates will buy the game instead of just playing the demo.

You sure it's just not in the Spotlight area? I'm not home to check, but I can't imagine them just deleting that.

I don't know about the 360, but you can't play the demo on Steam anymore. It got disabled as soon as the full game released. Maybe they pulled it off Live too?

My theory is that valve dose a lot of smart things. Their smart thing bag is filled to the brim. The universe had to balance all these smart things out by making them screw something up, hence no more demo and the universe is once again in balance.

Gabe Newell has an interesting write-up on the procedural nature of L4D:

I do not fight the zombies. The zombies do not fight me. Between me and the zombies is the negotiator, my gun. The negotiator translates my words into the only language the zombies understand, bullets.

There is no need to fight when you have a good negotiator.

I rented this and played 2 levels online so far, really fun game - however for some damn reason both of my headsets no longer work (I don't know what is up, they used to be fine then today - nothing) so that's a bit annoying when playing online. Will have to do the other 2 maps and then try some versus mode, that sounds cool.

Picked this up yesterday w/ the Gamestop trade in deal. Got to play a couple of hours of offline co-op last night and I am REALLY REALLY digging this game. Awesome action. Nothing like being spewed on or your buddy being spewed on and seeing tons and tons of zombies coming right at ya.

I am loving that Valve is running this game on dedicated servers, even for the 360. Performance has been a lot better than most 360 games their first week of launch.

Gah! Really want to pick this up, but I have too many games calling me away from it right now. Do you guys think the online community for this is going to stay strong for a while, or is this a game that in 3 weeks it will be impossible to find a match (this is for the 360)?

Thanks.

Got mine yesterday and played some this evening. It's fun... but I'm not sure it'll have the legs to keep me playing it in a couple of months.

I am such a fool I played the No Mercy campaign, and after hearing people say you can complete the game in 2 hours. I thought that was all there was to game I had no idea till tonight that there were 3 other campaigns. Here I am playing the same campaign for the last 3 nights in a row. So anyway I started the Death Toll campaign and ended dying in the end trying to save my nephew, I fell under the docks and the Tank mushed me. The only thing was the achievement still unlocked that I had survived the campaign. Must be a glitch, but boy this game rocks!
