Left 4 Dead-8 Player Co-Op
#52
Played through the demo twice last night. I'm not interested in co-op, so I haven't been looking forward to this game too much. But the single player was really fun.
My biggest concern was the NPC AI. I recently played Battlefield: Bad Company which also has you on a 4-man team. The AI on that game was lousy. You're an enemy magnet. The partners are worthless. They don't kill anything. They can't drive. And even though one is a demolitions expert, none of them know how to blow anything up. (But it was still a fun game)
The AI in this game was excellent. Your partners can clear a room, save you from a boss, heal you when you're dying and point out needed supplies. So even on the single player mode, you still feel like a 4-player team.
It's very arcadey. It seems like you just plow through tons of zombies. Fun to pick up for a quick game. But I'm not sure how well that'll hold up over 20 missions.
The variety makes replay fun. The first time I took it slow. Poked around every corner with my flashlight. Tried to take out every zombie I saw. The second time was run and gun. A very different game. Hordes came from different places and some new bosses.
But I wish there was more variety. The horde zombies are all in drab gray clothes with black hair. I swear I killed the same zombie chick at least 50 times.

I'm hoping that they limited the models in the demo, and that there's more in the full game. But I'm not holding my breath.

Yeah played the demo last night and had a blast. I'm a co-op whore so I knew I would like this. At first I too was peaking around every corner then it was all balls to the walls.

Eh, they're zombies. How many of the Locust look the same in Gears? I could care less...I just want to shoot zombies.
I cannot wait for this game, even though I'm very much into gears and should finish it this weekend. Hell, I still need to finish dead rising.

I agree. I really don't care how many zombie models there are. They could use one model for all I care. It's dark, and I'm too busy blasting the crap out of them to notice what they look like most of the time.

I also loved the variety by mixing up zombie/weapon locations. You never know what to expect. We all died and had to redo a section and dropped into an area that was crawling with zombies the first time around. We both just looked around and were like "Where the hell is everybody?" Within like 5 seconds an entire stream of them comes tearing into the room. It was awesome!

It seems the "buzz" is getting louder with this game. The ads are all over the place and I saw a commercial for it this morning. I read an article about it months ago but i forgot about it.
I have a hard time finding co-op partners so that's not a major draw for me. However, the reports of Good AI in the single player has me very interested. I guess I'm off to DL the demo.

I didn't love the demo. Barely liked it, in fact.
Now that my expectations have been brought down to a more realistic level, I'll give the demo another whirl this afternoon.

There are billboards for this on major NYC highways (I've seen at least 2 in the past 2 weeks). That is some major marketing. And I don't even think they mention it's a video game!!1 It looks like a movie billboard.

That actually doesn't surprise me. If you play the demo, they are very much going with the "grindhouse movie" feel. At the beginning of the round, it even shows a "poster" with your gamertag as the "star".

If you check the options screen, there's a slider for the amount of film grain.
