The Last Remnant

Anyone heard of this? It's an upcoming (Spring 2008) RPG from Square Enix.

Looks pretty cool. Simultaneuos US/Japan release for both PS3 and 360.

Well it certainly looks like it has nice visuals. But I didn't see enough of the combat engine to form an opinion. Still, thanks for the trailer, JasonF. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for more news regarding this game.

I'm a Square-Enix whore so I'm sure I'll play it. I didn't know this was one of the non-exclusive titles though. Sweet!

Reviews stateside have been pretty bad, but from the sounds of it, the story and world are quite good. It's just marred by severe technical issues.

I started this over the weekend. Pretty good so far but there's some terrible slow-down during battles with a lot of characters. The fighting system is different than most JRPG's but I'm getting used to it. I think the game has enough customization to keep me hooked till the end.

I was looking forward to this but average review score @ Gamerankings is pretty bad - 67%. I think I'll wait until I can get it cheaper.

Not sure what the slowdown is caused by, but have you tried installing the game on your Hard drive? Does it make any difference?

I haven't been able to try that because I still have the original 20gig hdd and there's not enough room to install a game on it. It seems like it's basic "too many people on the screen at the same time" slow-down. It is only happening in fights with a lot of characters/enemies.

I played a few more hours last night. Still enjoying it but I wish there was a way to control what each character does in a fight rather than picking from the options it gives you for each Union.

The reviews killed any interest I had in this one. Sounds like Square had no idea how to program for the Unreal Engine and it runs like garbage. Too bad that most of the exclusive JRPGs for 360 have been so mediocre. Sounds like Tales of Vesperia is still the RPG to get on 360.

I would say Eternal Sonata is the best RPG on the 360, best visuals and music.

Also Lost Odessey is pretty awesome.

I agree with maingon on the recommendation for Eternal Sonata and Lost Odyssey.

I'm also a fan of Enchanted Arms, though most people don't care for it.

Eternal Sonata has been my favorite jrpg on 360 so far. Lost Odyssey was good but a bit too easy.

I definitely think LR is worth checking out, especially at the price Amazon is selling it for. It has some technical issues but it's entertaining so far.

Eternal Sonata and Losty Odyssey had excellent graphics, but gameplay and story was so-so.

I really liked Tales of Vesperia. The graphics were ok, but the story, characters, and gameplay is what makes it stand out.

Disappointed on the review but we still have the new Star Ocean and Final Fantasy XIII coming soon. Any words in when both coming out for the 360?

Saw the review too, impressed with the graphics but very disappointed in the lagging gameplay.

Installing the disc into the hard drive and playing from there helps a lot. It takes up about 6 gig. I'm about 5 hours in and really enjoying the game.

Re: The Last Remnant

So I finally had some time to play this game... is anyone else getting corrupted save files? Every other time I try to save the game, it creates a corrupted save file because it can't connect to xbox live. Why the heck is this game connecting to xbox live at all, let alone when it saves? Usually the second save goes through, but still really annoying.

I saw one FAQ says that in addition to installing to the hard drive, signing off of xbox live also seems to enhance performance...

I picked this up at Target last night for $14.98. I am looking forward to trying it out.

I better make two save files in case I get a corrupted one

Re: The Last Remnant

The corrupted file thing isn't too bad. If you're saving over an existing file, you were going to overwrite it anyway, so saving a second time successfully isn't too much of a hassle. you do need to be paying attention, though. I still have no idea why it would even take Xbox Live connectivity into consideration when it saves, though... is it just me that's had this problem?

Re: The Last Remnant

so how is this compared to star ocean?
does installing it on your HD alleviate the performance issues?
