Bringing this over from the PS3 discussion thread because I think it might have got lost and it probably belongs here just as well (or moreso). I hope Microsoft does announce something like this.

Grain of salt time: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=26511

Following Sony's USD 100 price cut announcement, leading industry analyst Michael Pachter has gone on record predicting that Microsoft will quickly follow its rivals' lead and slash prices on all Xbox 360 models.

The Wedbush Morgan analyst expects the recently released Xbox 360 Elite to go from USD 479 to USD 399, the Premium model to see a drop from USD 399 to USD 349 and the Core system to be reduced from USD 299 to USD 249.

"We expect Microsoft to follow with a price cut of its own," said Pachter.

"Last week, Microsoft announced a slight Xbox 360 shipment shortfall and we do not believe that the company is prepared to allow Sony to erode its pricing advantage.

"We think that the console manufacturers will continue to cut price as their production costs come down, and expect sales to ramp significantly this holiday season," he added.

The company does not expect Nintendo to reduce the price of the Wii or DS, "as sales for both are still very strong and are anticipated to remain so through the end of the year."
Would love to see it announced tomorrow, but I can't see them keeping a $50 difference in the Premuim and Elite. I'd wager the Premium would go away leaving the $250 core to compete directly with the Wii and the $400 Elite (120gb, HMDI) to continue to battle the PS3. Hope it's close to true.

$50 isn't going to do much to make me budge.. it helps, but it's kind of weak sauce.

A $349 Elite would be much more interesting.

Famitsu unveiled today a brand new way to play doctor on the Wii: Trauma Center: New Blood. The biggest new feature will be a two player cooperative mode that lets you and a friend hack into bodies/save lives together. Sounds like the perfect activity for couples' counseling sessions, as well. New Blood will also feature a fresh cast of characters, new missions, and online leaderboards to see who's the handiest with a scalpel.

KurrptSenate 07-10-07 10:04 AM

hopefully it will have better replay than the first one

shumway 07-10-07 10:30 AM

Well with the co-op, I expect it would have pretty good replay. Then again, I don't think people have really dug Cooking Mama's co-op that much.

Is that the entire schedule? There are some big companies missing. Capcom? Lucasarts? Bioware? Monolith said they would be there with Condemned 2...

They each have company suites in other hotel rooms. Just because they don't have a big press release planned doesn't mean that much, as far as I can tell.

I'm looking forward to that as much as anything, but Sega already announced it isn't coming until next year so that dampens things a bit.

SuperBatMan 07-11-07 07:08 AM

Come on, Nintendo. I'm begging you to announce a new Punch-Out.

The Koei conference would go the same way.

parrotheads4 07-11-07 04:07 PM

Well, everything went down as I expected it to. I'm very excited for Metroid. I'll be getting my 65nm 360 for Halo, and I'll be waiting on the ps3. Sony has won the format war IMO so I will eventually own a ps3 as a dvd player - the games will be a bonus. I can't believe how much money I have spent/will spend on video games. It simply amazes me.

Sony may have won the format war, but the format hasn't won. We're still talking about <2% market share total. Until this goes to 20% or beyond, the "winner" won't matter since the format is losing.

Yep. It could still end up being another Sony proprietary format that limps along until they put a nail in the coffin, ala Beta, ATRAC & MD, & UMD.

 It's funny 'cause it's true. They will milk those franchises until they wither up and crumble into dust. People seem to keep buying them, but I'm not a fan.

Michael Corvin 07-11-07 08:36 PM

I typed this in the PS3 thread but it is more of a general thing and is better served here.

Final thoughts:
We can all nitpick the each of the presentations to death, but none were heads above the rest. They each served their audience well and did what they were supposed to do, give the fans of their respective consoles something to get excited about. The only thing that truly stood out for me was WiiFit and I doubt it is something I will even buy. I think that says something. I bet the scaling down of E3 probably played a big role in the big three keeping everything in check.

100% correct. I think each conference should excite owners of the respective consoles.. but I also didn't think any of them showcased anything new to entice new people over. I don't quite think the restructuring of E3 had anything to do with it.. after all, all that did was prevent anybody with a gaming website access to the show, and kept the business aspect to the major companies. Instead, I think it's just been that the last two years E3's were building up to "the next generation" and were full of exciting surprises. Now, all three new-gen systems are out.. so there's less to be excited about, from a fan's point of view.

raven56706 07-12-07 08:04 AM

so will the XBOX come out with the 65nm chipset?

PixyJunket 07-12-07 09:33 AM

It looks like Konami's big secret was Silent Hill V. Snore.

Shagrath 07-12-07 10:37 AM

I'd say the news from the conference that's got me excited most is the Rock Band news. I can't wait for this to come out!

10:30 - 11:30 AM - Ubisoft

I guess there's still a chance..........

Well here is who the 'Washington Post' felt "won" E3:

Game On
Nintendo Is Star of E3 Show as Rivals Scramble to Catch Up

By Mike Musgrove
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, July 12, 2007; Page D01

SANTA MONICA, Calif., July 11 -- For many analysts and fans, Nintendo was something of an afterthought at the video game industry's annual E3 trade show in recent years.

But after a blockbuster launch of its Wii console and its ongoing dominance in the portable game market with its mobile DS handheld game console, the company that brought the world Mario and Zelda is now the company that others are trying to catch.

The annual Electronic Entertainment Expo, commonly known as E3, takes place this week in Santa Monica, Calif. The summit, which in the past has had tens-of-thousands of participants, was scaled back this year and is an opportunity for game makers and industry leaders to announce their latest technology and products.

Nintendo's competitors, meanwhile, are playing an expensive round of brinksmanship with each other to win back some of the attention. This week Sony cut the price on its PlayStation 3 console by $100. Microsoft recently announced an expanded warranty program for the Xbox 360 console, which could cost the company more than $1 billion.

Neither Microsoft nor Sony is making money in the game industry, since both are selling their consoles at below cost in their attempt to boost interest. Nintendo, meanwhile, which introduced the $249 Wii six months ago, can barely keep up with demand for the profitable product.

Microsoft and Sony even scaled back their annual parties at the E3 show. In years past, Microsoft held events at such glamorous Los Angeles venues as the Orpheum Theater, the Shrine Auditorium and Grauman's Chinese Theater. This year, its event was at a Santa Monica high school. Sony, which previously held events that featured such concert acts as Macy Gray and Beck, settled for a low-key sushi shindig this year.

Nintendo says it is not paying a lot of attention to Sony or Microsoft.

Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, said the bigger question was how to get the non-gamers of the world interested in Nintendo systems.

"There are 24 hours in every day, and only a small time is available for leisure," he said at a news conference Wednesday. "We intend to steal more of that time for video games."

Fils-Aime, as expected, showed off some more Mario and Zelda game titles, the franchises for which Nintendo is most famous. His focus, however, was on how Nintendo products have won fans among senior citizens and women at levels well above the norm in the young-male-dominated industry.

For years, as the video game industry battled for dominance in the living room, the best graphics typically beat the competition. The popularity of the Wii's motion-detecting controllers has changed that notion, popularizing the life-like simulation of games, not their high-end computing aspect.

As a result, game companies are now trying to think of new ways to get players feeling like they are inside the game, designing realistic add-ons.

The Wii balance board, for example, lets players lean one way or another to control their game characters. The board is to be part of Wii Fit, the fitness program that Nintendo has in the works, illustrating that the "Wii workout" craze among those trying to get in shape by swinging fake rackets has only just begun.

taffer 07-12-07 12:04 PM

IMO, nobody won the show. Sony's, Microsoft's, and Nintendo's presentations were all equally bad.

KurrptSenate 07-12-07 12:06 PM

I'd say you'd have to check the NYSE to see who the real winner is

Draven 07-12-07 12:20 PM

I'd agree that no one's presentation seemed to win, but of the three companies, Nintendo is definitely "winning" this hardware battle, so perception of their event adjusts accordingly.

PixyJunket 07-12-07 12:36 PM

I'd say Nintendo "won" simply because they had the biggest surprise in Wii Fit. Sure, it's a disappointing surprise for us gamers but it's going to be big for them, no doubt. Removing that, I'd say that all three "won" and were about on equal grounds.. they all pimped their sales successes and showed off a plethora of upcoming software. Owners of the all three (or five) systems have lots to look forward to.

Michael Corvin 07-12-07 01:07 PM

Same here. As I've stated before I'd say they were all on equal ground. The WiiFit & balance board is just enough to tip the scale just a hair to give the edge to Nintendo, whether it is marketed to me or not.

Nintendo didn't show the hardcore fans much of Mario Kart, Pikmin, F-Zero or any of another dozen franchises, but does anyone really doubt they aren't coming?

wouldn't that still be Nintendo?...

msdmoney 07-12-07 04:07 PM

The Washington post article is more a state of the gaming industry article than an E3 article. There was very little E3 in the story besides the Sony price drop and Microsoft Warranty announcement.
