Oblivion on 360 Issues....

I have already gone through one copy of this game and had to take it back for a new one. Before the games gets to the main options menu a screen appears that looks like it has crashed, but it goes onto the main option menu and plays. However, i am getting to certain points where i am getting the disc error problem and it is really pissing me off. I have been ultra careful with the disc and it still has scrathes on it. I take it that the console is doing this. I am also getting some slow load times and i have tried resetting the cache by pressing the A button upon loading. I guess i will end up getting another copy. Does anyone else think that Microsoft should be held responsible for this type of thing? Its there product that is helping destroy discs produced by other companies. Sure i understand that you cannot play one without using the other, but i am finding this pretty disgraceful that its an issue that (along with all the other issues i have read about) has not been addressed.

Thats interesting, because i had read that having it standing up was better for the system. I will have to lay it on its side form now on and see if it helps. Thanks for the suggestion.

Well i am not having any problems with any of my other games so maybe i should just place it on its side when playing Oblivion. I want to also avoid the Red Lights of death if i can avoid it.

How's standing up better for the cooling process when it covers up the vents on the side?

What surface? Solid metal? I think having a vent open that you can feel air come out of would be better than having metal covered up.

I have been playing Oblivion for more than 150 hours and never had any problem with disc (my 360 is stand up). Must be something wrong with your disc reader (hardware).

I'm surprised you think heat transfer from the outer casing to the air is that effective. If I lay my hand on the side of the case it isn't hot at all. If I put my hand on the vents I feel air blowing out of it.

I'd agree that the horizontal position is better for the disc drive. I had problems with Oblivion as well especially later in the game. Clearing the cache usually helped with load times and seemed to reduce the disc read problems.

I have placed my 360 on its side and it is playing better. I still am getting read errors....but not as frequently. I will take my copy of Oblivion back and get a new one as its covered in scratches. It definately looks like the machine plays better laying down. I just wanted to make sure that the machine gets as much ventilation as possible and thats why i had it standing up.

By the way, i have been trying to clear my cache. How can i tell if it has been cleared? It still looks like it is crashing when the game is booting, but it loads fine.
