I'm gonna post my thoughs in a new thread:

I picked this game up for the kids yesterday at CC for $40 (not bad).

Finally got a chance to give it a spin today... and I must say... it's not meant to be a single purchase game.

If you do not have a DS, Diamond/Pearl, or an internet connection, you'll regret the purchase very quickly. Here's why.

When you start the game and visit Pokétopia (the Amusement Park setting for this game), you are asked if you have a DS with either Diamond or Pearl... and if you answer no, then it takes you the explaination of the "Rental Card" which is a basic character with 6 pokémon (they different if your character card you chose is the boy or the girl).

You are stuck with that selection (as far as I can tell) for as long as the game lasts.

You can then proceed to go through the Colosseum Battles and win tickets to upgrade the wardrobe of your character (whoopie!)... but my daughter likes that aspect. I beat the Main Street Colosseum in a little under an hour (cinematics get monotonous after awhile) and earned 275 coupons... and a Pikachu Badge (and unlocked another Colosseum). Like I said the single-player mode is okay... but the computer can be a beast sometimes.

You are stuck with those Pokémon and the Rental Card, until you transfer over some Pokémon from Diamond or Pearl.

So, to have a totally customizable experince with this game, you must have a Wii and PBR and a DS with Diamond or Pearl. That's $465 for a minimal customizable experience. Ouch!

Now if you have a pair of DSs and the new carts, you can play a two player game. Luckily, my wife and I both have DS Lites and my son's bday is Saturday and my daughter's bday is in a few weeks, and we got them Diamond and Pearl as gifts. So in a few weeks, we can play head to head.

If there is a two-player mode possible with only two Wiimotes, I haven't found it yet. There is no a two-player game possible without the extras. The two-player game can only stem from you linking up online with a friend and playing them.

Anyways... I think that my opinion will change in a few weeks once the presents are passed out, but for right now, it's ho-hum until I get someone to play against and they can whoop on me... a guy who has no clue which grass type can do what against which ground type, or vice-versa.

So, what is the value of this game if one doesn't have, nor plan on getting a DS? I picked it up as a "filler" to use the $40 off $200 coupon at CC, but I haven't opened it. It will be mainly for my 6 year old, so no online battles.

My kids are 8 and 6 and have been playing it all afternoon.

As you go and win the different colosseums you unlock other rental cards so you can use another set of 6 pokémon to go back through the colosseums again.

Later on you might get a DS for you or your kid and you may want to "expand" your adventure, so I'd say keep. It might drive an adult nuts playing it, but a kid will be fine.

I agree with everything that they said in the article... and that's what's frustrating about.

I got the game for my kids (under 10) to play against their friends and cousins (most of them under 12) and I don't think they are that concerned with stats. They just want to see their Pokémon battles on the big TV.

I think that a 5.0 is fair, but I would have at least given it a 6.0 (but I haven't tried the online or DS stuff yet).

Yeah, I only played it a little tonight, and have yet to start porting my Diamond Pokemon over yet. Hell Im still playing Fire Red as well so I got to finish that up so I can send them on to my Diamond. Ill say one thing for the Pokemon creators, they know how to keep us coming back.

i have a DS for my wife and I, as well as Diamond and Pearl. I'm a bit hesitant to pick this game up, considering it seems like the same thing I've been doing already, just on a smaller screen

My son got Diamond for his B-day last week but we were out of town so today we are going to make a custom card and try the online stuff.

Anyone else got a number that we can use to try to get a battle on?

My son and I played Pokemon all weekend. He has found tons of stuff I had missed (even little things like polishing your badges with the stylus) and by trading we added probably 50 Pokemon each to our Pokedexes. He also beat Ranger and got the Manaphy.

We had so much fun playing it, doing the underground flag capturing, trading and battling that I was pretty tempted to get Battle Revolution.

I have 302 captured now and this may be the first time ever I actually try to catch them all.

Get PBR and lets try it.

You'll prolly kick our rear ends, but it'll be fun!

I still couldn't warrant the $50 purchase, but I did have Godfather and Metal Slug sitting around unplayed so I traded them in at EB for Battle Revolution. Trade 2 used for 1 new was a decent deal. I don't think I even payed $25 for each of those games.

Anyhow, we played it for awhile yesterday and I have to admit it is fun to fight them in 3D. I'll post my friend code later once I get my character fully set up.
