There is a post on the revision3 forums about Garnett Lee's new podcast:

http://revision3.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33526

I stopped listening to the 1Up podcast after he left as I found it boring and it seemed to lack direction and focus. I'm looking forward to this as it also has Jeff Cannata from The Totally Rad show.

^^ Awesome. I'll be watching that one for sure.

That's great news. I really enjoy Canata's enthusiasm for games on TRS, but they never go as in depth as I would like, so it's good he has an arena to fully explore gaming stuff. I'll be listening (or watching).

I actually like Garnett as a host. My favorite podcasts ever were him hosting 1up Yours with John and Shane. I never really cared who the fourth chair was, though I know a lot of folks like Luke.

Cool. Definitely going to check that out. I think I'm more anxious where John Davison ends up though.

I kept my subscription to 1up because they have guests I enjoy from time to time. John was on a few weeks ago.

Garnett was on Bitmob a few weeks ago as well and they had a funny intro bit I enjoyed.

I miss both these guys.

Garnett was back on 1up several weeks ago. 2/12 show.

Yeah and they hardly spoke to him and kept cutting away to pre-taped interviews.

I don't know where he's going to end up (more than likely he'll start a gamepro podcast), but he's done a really bang up job on Gamepro so far. The first issue back was ok, but the issue with Civilization on the cover was really good. Mags are dying, but Gamepro reads very much like the videogame magazine people have been saying they wanted. Mature, thoughtful, in-depth -- it's great! At least that one issue was.

I highly recommend this (last?) week's Mobcast.

Shane was on (along with other EGM vets) and he was in rare form.

I really like the format/tone of that show.

What did he only mention Sony once every 30 seconds? ;)

I didn't pick up on that, but he was extra-douchy...in a way that I find very entertaining.

IIRC he works for a multi-platform company now so he can't be as biased anymore.

Garnett is recording the first episode of his new podcast and it should hit tomorrow. It is called Weekend Confirmed and i am pretty excited.

Mobcast is always great.
I just started listening to Idle Thumbs and it wasn't half bad.
The Geekbox is moving off my list due to all the damn Lost talk.
Signed In is always pretty good so i normally listen to it each week.

Major Nelson has become a fallback podcast for me. When i have some extra time i give it a listen but it isn't a priority. Personally i think the podcast is at its best when e and stepto are on it.

On the last episode, Geekbox saved the Lost talk for the end of the show. At least that way you can just turn it off once that segment starts. I love it, but I also love Lost and am watching the current season.

As for Major Nelson, e and stepto have been on just about every episode lately, along with Laura (lollipop). It's definitely a "second tier" podcast for me, but it has its moments.

Hrm, maybe i will give them another try then. My issue with all the Lost talk isn't that i hate it - it is simply that i have never seen it but want to catch up sometime. I recognize i'm so behind the curve i don't get to bitch about spoilers on this but they were saying in the podcast that they would talk about Lost for the next 15 minutes and listeners could fast forward. So i would fast forward 15 and they were still talking. I jump another 10 and they were still talking. One episode this went on for almost 40 minutes - it was absurd.

I forgot about lollip0p! She is also pretty good on the show albeit she gets a little silly at times. There are so few girls in most gaming podcasts that the ones with intelligent women talking about games stand out. I think that is one strength of Geekbox.

^ Thanks for the heads up miyu. I'm looking forward to it.

The Major has made a resurgence, IMO. With the addition of e, Stepto & Lollip0p I actually look forward to it again.

Mobcast has surpassed GWJ for me, but CAGCast reigns supreme, which has gotten better with the permenent addition of BoatCrash. I dropped RebelFM altogether and was on the brink of doing the same for 1up (oh how the mighty have fallen) but keep a subscription if I run out of everything else to listen to.

Re: Video game podcasts

Looks like Anthony and Arthur from RebelFM are full time with IGN now after the layoffs. Guess IGN killed GameSpy and TeamXbox but Ryan, Arthur and Anthony all got jobs with IGN. Arthur was on Three Red Lights and Anthony was on the most recent GameScoop. Won't be shocked if they get Ryan Scott on Nintendo Voice Chat.

Yeah, I thought the new Gamescoop got off to a pretty good start. I never cared much for Anthony, but he's kind of a nice contrast to Greg Miller.

Looking forward to weekend confirmed!

Idle Thumbs has relaunched as "The Idle Thumbs Podcast", and it's on episode 3.

Chris Remo and Jake Rodkin are still on the show, and Nick Breckon has been replaced by Steve Gainer, who used to guest from time to time anyway.

It was also kind of cool to hear Shane on 4 Guys 1 Up last week.

That was a happy day for me to see Idle Thumbs back.

Irrational Behavior is Shawn Elliot's podcast with Irrational Games. It's more akin to a Life Well Wasted but focused on Irrational. Hopefully they podcast more often than A Life Well Wasted.

I stopped listening to Bitmob at some point, for no real reason. I need to start that back up again.

I'll check out the Weekend Confirmed podcast.

I really enjoy the Geekbox, but I'm in the same boat. Want to watch Lost, eventually, so even though I'm sure I'll be spoiled for the big stuff (how it ends), I don't need to have it ran over for me beat by beat right now. I will listen to these eps in the summer when I catch up.

Mobcast can be really good. It depends on the guests and topics. The guy who made Bit Trip was a fantastic guest. I want him to come back more. Shane and Mark weren't too shabby either. I think I like this show because they go straight to the topics. That's what I used to love about 1up Yours 4 minute warning segments. I like whatcha been playing style segments, but it's nice to hear broader (quick) discussions about games. GWJs has the discussion stuff down too, but I think their middle sections could go on too long for my tastes. That's still a good show, but I don't really listen all that much these days.

The reason I quit Geekbox soon after it started was because they would spoil the shit out of all my favourite tv shows, including the episode that showed that week. Can't believe they still do that.

Yes! I love Idle Thumbs...casting pod in my face. This week's episode wasn't one of their best, but I do like the addition of Steve Gainer as the straight man. Chris Remo is hands-down the funniest guy in game podcasting...second place to Hilden from Drunken Gamers Radio.

I'm really loving Irrational Behavior...dog in a wheelchair.

Bitmob is kind of hit or miss depending on the guests, but when it's good (as it has been the last couple of weeks), you don't want to miss it.

I do not in any way understand the love for CAGcast. Cheapy has some charisma, but my level of interest in his "life" is at or near zero.

That and every discussion ends up devolving into talking about Sins of a Solar Empire or Wow.

What's your favorite character in a game? "I know this is probably cheating but I love my blood-elf that I made in WoW."
What is your favorite Super Mario Game? "Man, I love Mario 3, but someone created a hack/custom level in WoW, that plays just like Mario 3, maybe better."
What game changed your life and made you want to get into gaming journalism? "Atari 2600 was big, but WoW really ignited that fire in me"
Who is your favorite developer? After 10 minutes of tossing Ken Levine's salad "it would have to be the guys over at Blizzard for their amazing work on WoW."
