Sonic the Hedgehog: The RPG
Sega and Bioware teaming to make Sonic RPG
Bioware has never made a bad RPG, so I have faith this game will be good too, but I wonder why Sega chose Bioware instead of Japanese RPG developer like Squaresoft? Squaresoft did make the popular Mario RPG on SNES. I can't imagine Japanese gamers being too giddy for western-style RPGs.
Today, Sega's push to ally with Western developers took an unexpected left turn. That's when the Japanese publisher announced a new role-playing game starring its iconic blue hedgehog, Sonic.
Although the notion of a new Sonic game isn't surprising, Sega caused more than a few morning latte spit-takes when it named its developer. The title is being worked on at Canadian powerhouse BioWare, acclaimed maker of such RPGs as Baldur's Gate, Jade Empire, and the forthcoming Mass Effect. The still-untitled game is due out sometime next year.

Yeah, its not big deal either way. Just didn't figure many of the DS regulars wouldn't post here since it was already there for a few hours.
Not much to discuss now anyway since it's an announcement with no details.

I never played the Mario RPGs so this seems really weird to me.
Being Bioware will it be a traditional western style? Will i take Sonic and choose a character class for him?
I wonder also if it will be more like the console versions of Baldur's Gate.

Although to be honest i think people are a little too hard on those games. True they are a far cry from the incomparable PC games but as their own title they were pretty good Gauntlet clones. I never got to play the second console one unfortunately due to it never dropping in price and being easily available.

My problem with them is that they were marketed as Baldur's Gate and D&D. In reality, they use those two properties in name only. The D&D nerd inside me is just repulsed by the idea of a "D&D" game that does not even use the D&D ruleset. If they were called "Dark Alliance" instead of "Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance" and did not have the D&D logo stamped on them, then my inner nerd would not be so upset. Those games rape my childhood.

I'm looking forward to this quite a bit.

My first instinct would be the prematurely call out "shit" as has been the modus operandi of Sega's Sonic series.. not to mention that I really dislike the characters. But, BioWare being involved makes it more of a wildcard.. I'm not a huge fan of Western RPGs, but at the very least they can possibly make a Sonic game that isn't garbage.

I really wish Sega would just stop making Sonic do anything but run fast (by himself!) in a 2-D environment but with BioWare on board, this definitely has potential.
