what difficulty do you play games on?
thanks to achievements on the XBOX360, i have found myself playing every game at the highest difficulty. what about you guys?
Medium, because I generally suck at games but I still have my pride.
Usually medium. Rarely will replay on higher levels, one exception was Gears of War as me and my buddy ran through casual and hardcore in Coop.
PC FPS games I tend to play on easy as I suck at the keyboard mouse controls. I hardly play them anyway as I don't like gaming on a computer much, but one of my friends lent me a stack of games he recommended I check out so I've worked through a few of them. |
I have a stack of games to play and little time to play them. I start on easy and adjust it up as needed.
Medium, or whatever the default is. I don't care much for harder difficulties, as I feel more frustration then fun.
Depends on what game - FPS - Easy. :o RPG - Easy or Medium on console. Car Racing HARD
As for PC games - Hard > Extreme |
I'm like McHakson, depends on the game but mostly medium to easy and work up.

Sports: highest difficulty
the rest: default |
Default.
I don't play many games, though. |
I always use the default, which usually seems just about right. I have too many games to spend too much time on any one game, and easy is usually too easy.
Whatever the easiest is
First time through any game I usually play it on the lowest setting to get a feel for it. After that, if I enjoyed it or there are unlockables or what not, I may go back and try the other settings.
I always start on "normal".
Usually medium. But when the game is good and tickles my curiousity I would play it on harder difficulty sometimes.
Depends on the game. If I've read that playing through on the hardest setting will unlock all the Achievements below it, I give that a go. If not, I'll go for the default setting and get a feel for the game before moving up.
Halo and Halo 2 being the exception, I started and finished on Heroic. |
Usually on default. If I am flying through a game, I'll bump it up.
Default
I start off on the default difficulty and if I really like the game, i'll start over on the hardest difficulty.
i prefer most games on the hard/hardest difficulty. It's rare that I actually go back through a game on a harder difficulty, unless the game is really THAT good
Most games are designed around the default difficulty, so that's what I tend to go with.
I do like it when games let you change difficulty "on the fly", like Halo. That way you can adjust to your own needs without having to start over from the top. |
I usually play medium/normal as well.
Default. That should have been a poll choice.
I chose 'Easy' simply because I don't have a lot of time to game and I want to make the most of my time.
Whatever gives the most gamerpoints? :)
I'll usually go through on Normal on my first run-through, and then crank it up to hard/expert, whatever the second time through. That is, unless I'm tearing through Normal, then I'll just crank it up right away. |
Normal/medium/default.
I usually play default. If I really like the game and I'm decent/good at it, maybe I'll knock it up a notch the second time through.

Other than the two basketball games I played for the Old Spice Challenge, everything on my gamercard, I played due to interest, not quick nerd points. I've still managed to stay in the top 15. |
I usually play games on hard. On any easier difficulty I beat the games to fast. I rather it last longer for 60 bucks.

Tough to win at $60, part of the reason I haven't picked up a 360 yet. Hopefully some of the games like Oblivion and Gears will start getting price drops in the coming months. |

easy for me, I just suck at video games.
Usually normal or medium unless I'm going for achievements for a game like Call of Duty 2.
Hardest level. But I also only play games where I can use a cheat code to get unlimited health/life/ammo.
I always play through first on default, then whenever I replay I usually play on the hardest setting with one exception: Ninja Gaiden on Xbox. If my life depended on it, I could never defeat the Alma boss on the hardest difficulty (Master Ninja mode). I can beat the game on Very Hard mode, but Master Ninja kicks my ass.

well, not exactly
higher difficulty usually means more people to kill. that's never a bad thing |
Medium, and if it's a sports game, I'll play with the sliders to adjust certain aspects to make it feel like a good challenge, but not like I have no chance of winning. Normally I play to relax a little, so the last thing I want is to sit there getting frustrated and raising my blood pressure playing on the hardest level. Especially since some games (especially sports games) seem to simply make it harder through cheap AI tricks
Medium, or "default" I guess
I usually play through once on normal and then play through again on hard or extreme.
