What sucked is that you can't just start the level over again (which I wanted to do in order to save my BFG charges), you can only play the levels you've completed, and even then, you can't continue from there. So I could only start at my checkpoint, which was at the start of the boss's 2nd form, after I had depleted a lot of ammo.

And I beat him, not because I was good, but only because I got lucky. I only had 6/150 health when he died - so it was about as close as possible.

Anyways, on with the game - 4 more levels to go!

Must be a relief...

Finished the game. Nice and satisfying. They leave it open for DLC levels, sorta.

Of course anything can happen but I'm pretty sure the developers have said twice now only multiplayer DLC.

Coulda' swore I read somewhere that one of the DLCs would be single-player content. But I could be mistaken.

Yeah, there was just a huge update download - I wondered what it was. Too bad it's not more single player stuff, as that's what everyone agrees was the strength of the game.

I almost came close to buying the Collectors Edition on Amazon....they have it for $68 right now...but I realized no season pass or extra DLC except for the MP side.

I mentioned this over in the deals section as well, but Doom is $20 at Gamestop

Has to be one of the quickest price drops in recent memory, especially for such a well received game. Hopefully that doesn't mean there won't be a sequel.

Doesn't surprise me, Bethesda did such a shitty job promoting the game prior to release and new games are like movies, a shitty opening week makes for a poor run overall.

Re: Doom (5/13/2016: Xb1, ps4, pc)

I'm sure the MP beta didn't help. And they they didn't release that SP demo until a month or two after the game came out. But yeah, a $40 price drop in three months is crazy.

Is it a price drop or a sale? I've seen quite a few games drop $40 for a week like that (hell I bought the last Final Fantasy proper for $25 the week of release), just not a permanent price drop.

Regardless, despite several big titles, Doom is still my GOTY thus far.

Re: Doom (5/13/2016: Xb1, ps4, pc)

Sorry, yeah, I meant a $40 price drop for the sale. I don't think it's permanent. Although it's been pretty much floating around $30 - $40 for a couple weeks now at multiple stores.

Re: Doom (5/13/2016: Xb1, ps4, pc)

Yeah, they also shot themselves in the foot by not giving out review builds. If the positive reviews and word of mouth were floating around the week before release, it would've sold much better that first, important week.

I just picked up my copy at Gamestop. Awesome deal, thanks for posting.

Got Doom for free from Microsoft as part of the 60 dollar credit at Thanksgiving for buying the One. So much fun I almost felt guilty. Even at 20 dollars it's a steal.

As far as I know, Doom actually sold really well.

Yeah, that's what I've seen as well. It sold at least 2m on consoles, and at least another million on PC.

Re: Doom (5/13/2016: Xb1, ps4, pc)

Beat the single player campaign last night, had alot of fun. Old school gameplay with modern graphics. Sure, it got alittle repetitive, but it's a minor flaw. Loved the chainsaw, but wish it had more than a 2 or 3 uses per gasoline container.

I'll check out the multiplayer and the snapmaps, but I doubt I'll be spending too much time on them. Multiplayer in general just doesn't have the appeal it used to.

My copy will arrive either today or tomorrow...it will be this and back to Destiny.....cannot wait.

Also need to give a quick shout out to Mick Gordon, the composer of the music...which kicks serious ass. I'm not the metal head I was when I was younger, but damn, the music is perfect for this game.

This is getting Free-for-All Deathmatch, finally, with the next update. This means I may finally give the MP a shot.

Re: Doom (5/13/2016: Xb1, ps4, pc)

I just finished this a few minutes ago and thought it was absolutely fantastic. Easily, hands down, without question, my game of the year so far.

I don't have any connection to the 90s Doom - played it once or twice at a friends house, but that's it. And I'm not all that interested in twitchy, Serious Sam-like arcade FPS either. But I put in a new graphics card and also found a good deal on the game, so I figured I'd take a chance on it, mostly based on the very positive reviews it's received so far.

It could get repetitive, I suppose, but it never felt it to me. Even towards the end, when it's one room after another after another, I loved it. I wish there were more bosses, though.

Even if you're on the fence with this one it's worth checking out.

I still haven't cracked this open since the Rise of Iron DLC hit Destiny....I really need to but I haven't gone back to No Man's Sky or Fallout 4 either....got some vacation days coming and might need to jump on this.

We're getting a new PC which is more gaming because I didn't want all the bloatware plus I wanted something with real hardware....coming from Cyberpower. I almost wish I got the PC version but it was $20 for the PS4 so I couldn't resist. But I might grab Gears of War for it....

I might have squeed a little when I realized that the original music for the first level of "Knee-Deep in the Dead" was sort of hidden within the new theme.
