So how are the new Gears maps?

Impressions anyone? I previously said i was going to hold off until September but a student described one of the maps to me and it sounded pretty interesting. Anyone willing to do some sort of write-up on the maps?

I haven't bought them but it seems all of the GOW regulars have so I am getting some points today. Over at Kotaku.com they have video clips of the levels, they look pretty fun. I would have loved to hold out until they are free but too many people have bought them already.

I checked out one of the maps last night at my brother's place. Absolutely brilliant. The level design is so different from them just mirroring half of a level. The environments were big, and reminded you more of playing the single player campaign. Bloody brilliant

I want them, but I've barely played GoW online as it is now....so, everything is new to me. Also, they will be FREE in Spetember, so I may just wait.

I wouldn't mind picking them up. But then again I don't play GOW online that much because I get tired of having my ass handed to me.

I'm really interested in the map that has the kryll. That just sounds like a genius idea to me to really mix up the gameplay some if light plays a big role. One of my students also said all the new maps have all the weapons (bow and boom) is this correct?

I don't multi-play much (if at all), so I'll wait 'till they're free.

Boomers? Having a Beserker(s?)s on the maps to take both sides out would be intense. Star Wars Battlefront had a map with Pig Guards that would kill any player they could catch.

Just the weapons the Boomers drop on the maps, not the actually Boomers. (I assume anyway).

no, its just the boom-shot, not the enemies (Boomers) that carry them

Of course tbird is aware of where every boom is.

Too bad, i was hoping for some reprieve from his vicious explosions.

That's exactly why I haven't been playing GOW online. But willing to pick up the maps and play with other casual gamers. So, if you're interested in getting a game going sometime soon, send me a message on Live (to tag Tuesday Weld...you're already on my friend's list.)

Subway and Bullet Marsh are definitely the two best new maps.

I haven't picked up the new maps either, lack of GoW multiplayer (on my end) for the same reasons. But if you guys want to add me, I'll play some 'casual' games. I did get the first map pack, I believe.

I've never played GoW before (no 360), but it looks like the shaky cam when you're running could easily give someone motion sickness. Can that be turned down, or is it really not a problem?

I don't think you can turn it off - but you also only run in short bursts. It has never been a problem for me.

My wife gets motion sick sometimes with 3D games. For some reason games like Mario Kart rarely effect her, but FPS games are the worst. I got her the original Buffy for the original Xbox and it made her throw up after about 10 minutes, never seen it that bad with her before.

She can't even watch me play Gears because the running-shaky-cam makes her feel kind of queasy. At least not on the projector. I don't think the 37" bugged her nearly as much.

xmiyux : I think I've played a few games of Gears with you. You play at night time, say, ~10pm EST? My tag is GreenmkyD.

We might have. I tend to play Gears with tbird, Martin5, alxreys, goLucky, Logan, and a couple others. During the work week i tend to be done by 10pm at the latest due to being a teacher. After June 8th though i will be on summer break and up later gaming most nights. Otherwise i'm normally on friday and saturday nights.

BTW: I like the new maps. The Garden is good for annex and I think one of my favorites for that reason (and snipers slowed down by the poison gas). Subway is fun - but it is balanced like the Escalation map - funky. All the exploding weapons are on bottom (torque, boom, etc).

The Marshes map is too big if you're down to a couple of people. Creates people running in circles trying to find each other. Good for annex though with the lights/krill thing - seems another map that seems like it was developed for annex.

i absolutely LOVE how, in the subway, if you are spawned at the top, you can haul arse to the sniper and headshot anyone who is trying to get the boomshot.

I also learned there is a way to get the boomshot in that level without getting your head taken off by someone like me

its all about hauling arse right from the start, and not hitting a single thing before you pick up the rifle, spin 180, and target the gun.

If you spawn on the bottom and want to be able to grab the boom shot without getting your head taken off, the trick is to haul ass, and slide into the box car, slide to the other side, climb over the second wall, then haul ass some more
