Most Relaxing Games

I was playing some Boom Boom Rocket on X360 when this popped up... What would you guys consider to be the most "relaxing" games in your collection?

Lately I've been able to sit back to Zuma and BBR the best, not sure why exactly, there's just something calming about colors.

vinhj 05-01-07 10:14 PM

There's something about the music and backgrounds that make Uno really relaxing for me.

edstein 05-01-07 10:30 PM

Texas Hold'em or Lumines

1998Nole 05-01-07 11:10 PM

Viva Pinata

Since I play games to release stress, pretty much anything I slip into my 360 relaxes me. Currently, trying to unlock every costume on Marvel UA is relaxing me.

And Uno.

Joe Molotov 05-02-07 12:09 AM

I find Point and Click Adventures to be relaxing. Especially the modern ones where it's impossible to die or do something wrong and get stuck.

gryffinmaster 05-02-07 12:12 AM

For me, there's a difference between a game that relieves stress and a relaxing game. For me, action-adventure RPGs (especiall Zelda and God of War) are stress relievers since the ole' adrenaline gets to pumpin' and flutters down afterwards.

However, RELAXING games are anything I put in that's playable with little to no stress and brain power. Final Fantasy X, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, and Hot Shots Golf 3 nail that down pretty well.

DodgingCars 05-02-07 01:05 AM

Pikmin2, Clubhouse Games, Hotel Dusk, Tetris (well.. early levels)

Dazed 05-02-07 03:21 AM

Animal Crossing on the DS

Have you bought the Kameo deck? Even better. The music is amazing.

I've only played the Boom Boom Rocket demo, but I can definitely agree with that one. At least on easy.

Noonan 05-02-07 06:56 AM

Tiger Woods. No way a round of golf can't relax you.

AGuyNamedMike 05-02-07 07:12 AM

Like gryffinmaster said, more often I need to unwind rather than just relax. For me, a match or two of Tribes 2 or UT2k4 does the trick. As far as already being fairly relaxed and wanting to pass some time peacefully, I'll pick up the DS Lite and make a little progress on Hotel Dusk.

Lastblade 05-02-07 09:32 AM

I like Rez and Space Channel 5 (although sometimes I get pissed at the game) for relaxing gameplay.

SmackDaddy 05-02-07 09:40 AM

Ecco the Dolphin on Dreamcast. Sometimes I would just swim around and listen to the music. Very relaxing!!

Groucho 05-02-07 10:18 AM

It's sound odd, but free-roaming games like GTA do it for me. I just run around and do whatever. Don't worry about dying, or racking up a score, just have fun.

Josh H 05-02-07 10:19 AM

Clubhouse Games, most any puzzle game, Guitar Hero (as long as I'm not working hard toward any particular goal--like 5 starring a hard song or whatever--very relaxing to just pick up and rock out).

Agreed.

This is my thoughts exactly. I bought it for the PS2 once I put my Dreamcast in storage.

Great music to relax to as well, I'm actually listening to the soundtrack here at work as I type this.

daniel18 05-02-07 10:49 AM

I find some parts of the KOTOR games to be very relaxing, most of all the Jedi Enclave in Dantooine.

Randy Miller III 05-02-07 11:02 AM

- Shenmue 1 & 2 (Dreamcast) - Just running around and "hanging out".
- Super Monkey Ball (Gamecube) - Some of the mini-games, like Target and Bowling.
- Animal Crossing (Gamecube) - The whole freakin' game.

Most old-school RPGs also do it for me (FF IV and VI, for example).
I've played these so many times that I know 'em inside and out. :D

McHawkson 05-02-07 11:07 AM

Normally FreeCell and Oblivion.

taffer 05-02-07 11:13 AM

Cutting Locusts up with the chainsaw in Gears of War is relaxing to me.

Nausicaa 05-02-07 04:04 PM

Open-world RPGs like the Elder Scrolls games. Can't wait for Two Worlds to come out!

I agree that pretty much any "open world" game can be relaxing.

Just Cause is a good one as well. Flying air planes around and sky-diving while enjoying the beautiful vistas is quite enjoyable.

groovrbaby 05-02-07 04:30 PM

Another "open-world" game that calms me is Shadow of the Colossus. Riding around on Agro and just enjoying the scenery is one of my favorite experiences in gaming.

mrpayroll 05-02-07 05:17 PM

Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI for the PS2...

except when I'm getting my assed kicked by Cao Cao, as I am right now! :mad2:

Columns, for the most part, is a relaxing game. Although it's become very addictive and I dream of falling colored blocks.

Some racing games are relaxing for me too.

I like platforming games the most...sometimes its relaxing, other times I get myself too worked up over them. Especially some of the older games when dying actually meant something.

jediwicz 05-02-07 09:32 PM

Both Animal Crossing games and Tony Hawk Project 8 are my chill out games.

Absolutely. The golf game is like that as well.

Baron Of Hell 05-02-07 11:53 PM

Animal Crossing DS: Simple game, might fish, might dig stuff up, might sell turnips.

Pokemon Pearl: I'm not following any guides trying to do everything. I'm just traveling along doing a little this and a little of.

GTA3: Sometimes I just drive around. Really just driving around listening to music.

tanman 05-03-07 01:56 AM

Zelda: TP fishing. Hands down it is very relaxing. The music is perfect and the fising mechanics wonderful.

Not a game but playing with the entire globe on the forecast channel, especially at night, is incredibly relaxing.

It is amazing how much music does. What video game music comes to your mind that is relaxing?

A few that I remember:
The first water world in Mario 64. The music is incredible and fits the stage well.

Many many final fantasy pieces. Particularly in many of the menus.

Illusion of Gaia; an older one but I remember after saving in the other dimension the music changes and it is just very peaceful and repeats continuously. I would leave it on just to listen to the music.

naitram 05-03-07 10:47 AM

Nothing relieves stress more than San Andreas for me. Load up at the ammo shop and head for a roof.

Nice choice. One of my favorite SNES games.

Gdrlv 05-03-07 11:02 AM

flOw for the PS3 is the most relaxing game I've ever played.

boredsilly 05-03-07 11:11 AM

The first Pikmin would put me in a trance. A very soothing game, even if the gameplay could get frantic at times.

Also Arkanoid.

drmoze 05-03-07 11:15 AM

The fishing games on the Dreamcast (Bass, Deep Sea) were always relaxing for me. Esp. with the fishing controller and a beer or two. :)

Even the music that plays when you're on the flOw icon in the menu is very relaxing.

devilshalo 05-03-07 11:59 AM

Odd. I don't find any games that relax me. Everything is competitive so I usually get more amped up. I'm always in a must reach next level mode when playing any game.

Noonan 05-03-07 12:05 PM

I'll add Harvest Moon to my list of relaxing games. I spent countless hours playing the PS1 version.

Hell yeah, Space Channel 5 is awesome for relaxing :)
