The One and Only GameTap Thread
So in another thread, there's been some discussion of GameTap. I thought GameTap was cool enough to warrant its own thread.
For those who don't know, GameTap is an internet-based service for the PC. For a flat monthly fee, you get a GameTap account. This account allows you access to any of the games in their library. The library has about 800 games in it, ranging from classic arcade games, Atari 2600 games, Intellivision games, Sega Genesis games, Commodore 64 games, PC games, and a variety of other systems.
There is a complete list of games available here:

Currently, I've been playing Beyond Good & Evil. Who else is playing GameTap? What are you guys playing?

DVD Talk Legend
I think its up to 900 games now. I have played a ton. Sam and Max is the gem, but I have also played the excellent PC version of Far Cry, Serious Sam 1 & 2, Last Express, Hydro Thunder and tons of Neo Geo games.
There are also great kids games for my daughter.
I got in for $60 a year and it was money well spent. My year is up in July and I will probably renew even at full price.

I decided to try it for the $1 for the first month. I doubt I'll keep it, but it is a good service for a decent price. I downloaded Beyond Good and Evil. My computer is having a rough time with it, so I set everything to minimum -- and since then I'm mostly running into some sound-syncing issues (the video is running slower than the vocals).
I only played a little bit of it (completed the first major mission). So far it's an absolutely amazing game. The mixture of action and adventure are very well done. I had thought of picking this up for the Gamecube, though I may settle for the PS2 version because people are charging much more the the GC version.

DVD Talk Limited Edition
I like the service, but I have issues with some of the titles' gameplay "stuttering." The titles effected range from newer PC games (Silent Hill 2) to emulated titles like Earth Worm Jim. My computer exceeds the specks by a bunch for each, so I don't know what's up.
Anyway, the service is great for playing games I either did not want to pay for or never got to when they first game out. I have enjoyed:
Sam and Max Season 1
Beyond Good and Evil
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
Myst 3
Return to Mysterious Island
Deus Ex 2
Other good game I noted but had already played:
Deus Ex
Dark Reign
Far Cry
Serious Sam series
Certainly worth trying for a month at $0.99.

DVD Talk God
Thought I would bring this back up. I decided to try this. We buy Freddy Fish games for the kids, my wife like Oregon Trail games, etc. so it seemed like a good thing to try.
Well, I love it. I don't have lots of time to play games, but I still had a habit of buying them. With this, I can play plenty of games and spend in a year less than I would have in 2 months.
I love the old turn based strategy games. So currently I am playing Alpha Centauri and X-Com.
I do get hiccups from time to time, but this is a great service.

Not a lot to discuss that hasn't already been said
It's a very solid service and well worth the $60 annual I'm paying. Fantastic on business trips when I do get stuck in a hotel room. Auto-mapping for Xbox360 Controllers is the best.
I'm honestly looking forward to Tomb Raider Anniversary. I dont have any gameplay stutters on Windows, Dos, or Dreamcast games but for one reason or another, Saturn, Genesis and Neo Geo games occasionally hiccup (on my comp, I've tried others that were flawless). Since you're given multiple accounts on sign up, I gave one to my sister and we've been playing the hell out of the Neo Geo and Arcade games via the Challenge Lobby.
Still extremely happy with the service.
Need to finish the last episode of Sam and Max still, I don't know how much new business it brought them (I'm assuming a good deal, they've grown like gangbusters since introducing the series), but it was definitely episodic gaming done right.

DVD Talk Hall of Fame
Funny the last reply to this thread was the day before the big upgrade. Gametap now has a FREE membership level. Right now they are offering 31 games to play for free. Looks like the free games will change frequently since the current ones end June 4th.
Now you can rate the games on a scale of 1-10. Seems like everything is working in Vista much better than a month or so ago. The online challenge games worked better for my friend and me yesterday compared to the last time we tried. The sound broke up because of the lag, but the video played smoothly enough that we were able to play Street Fighter 2, Bubble Bobble and Neo-Turfmasters against each other without sound.
If anyone wants to add me to their buddy list, my Gametap name is EightPieceBox.

DVD Talk Hero
Now with 100% more Psychonauts.
Additionally, Tomb Raider: Legend is currently on their free-to-play list for those that feel like testing the service out w/o paying.

I could use some help with GameTap.
In my gameroom, I am putting together a dedicated laptop hooked up to my projector with a X-Arcade dual-tank stick controller and was planning on setting it up as a MAME machine as another form of entertainment (before anyone gets started on how MAME isn't real arcade or anything like that, I already have a bunch of arcade games down here, this was just a plan to cover more ground).
However, I discovered that MAME was more difficult than I thought it would be, so I thought I'd try out gametap. Now, gametap is being a bitch to set up. I've updated drivers and still get a blank white screen whenever I try to play a game it opens in the second window and all I get in that 2nd window is a smaller blank white screen over what looks like a menu system in the background.
I am running windows vista (I already went into properties and made the suggested changes from the gametap forum).
The specs on my laptop are:
intel core 2 duo processor t5250
(1.5gh, 2mb l2 cache, 667mhz fsb)
1gig sdram
Any help would be appreciated.
