What are you supposed to do after you get the second warp pipe? You come up in the background, but it seems to be a dead-end.

Is 5-1 the first caveman/Cragnon level? If I'm remembering right, you need to head back to the town and talk to the guy on the raised platform. He'll give you a clue on how to proceed. Unless you already got past that part, in which case I might need a few more details to remember exactly where you are.

Have a pen and paper handy. No, seriously.

StealthStratos 04-19-07 12:07 PM

Sounds like people are flying through this game pretty quickly. Any estimates on how long the game is? The previews I read ballparked it at around 20 hours. Do you guys think that's accurate? I'm hoping to pick it up tonight.

pinata242 04-19-07 12:09 PM

That sounds about right. I haven't played since Sunday and am about to start Chapter 6. I don't think I've hit 10 hours yet.

Spoiler:
Are you referring to the insanely long series of block hits you have to perform? No, I got past that. I'm referring to the warp pipe that comes up as a result of that. It warps you to the background, but there doesn't appear to be anything there.

Spoiler:
I think that's the one you have to go right behind what appears to be a solid wall.

PixyJunket 04-19-07 12:19 PM

I picked this up Saturday but haven't had time to play it since then. :(

So you just walk right through? Because you can't flip when you're in the background. I'll have to try that tonight.

I think that's it. It has been a few days. I think when you first went into that section of the level you saw the baddies in the background moving to the right...?

Yeah, that definitely sounds familiar. I'm pretty sure that's what you need to do.

20 hours sounds reasonable. I'm on Chapter 8-3, which I think is pretty close to the end, and I'm somewhere between 15 and 20 hours.

darkside 04-19-07 01:02 PM

Has anyone gone back to replay old levels? I keep seeing all these tiny doors and I just know I will get a power to access those at some point. I'm currently on 5-1 as well, but didn't feel like writing down the pipe sequence and took a break.

It's one of the reasons I'm able to hold off and not buy it until I clear my back log. I hated all the worthless text in the Paper Mario RPG games (sorry, I just don't get the Nintendo sense of humor I guess) and I'm not looking forward to sitting through it in a platformer.

sorry had to do it lol

Hey, that's what message boards are for. I hate that gripe though as one doesn't have to play a game to know they won't like certain parts of it. :D

I didn't like the text in the rpgs, so I'm not going to like it here. I don't like the Wiimote for NES games on the VC (including SMB) so I'm not going to like it here.

I found the arcade last night. Haven't even started level 3 yet. Are there only 3 mini-games? I did the tilting one up to level 15 and only got 53 flipside coins. Is any item for sale actually worth playing these mini-games for? Any faster way to earn coins?

There is a 4th game you can unlock later once you have access to Flopside.

I'm currently on 7-3 and have played right at 17 hours. I got heavily sidetracked with a fetch quest that ended up helping a lot on a boss battle on 7-2 and just running around trying to level up and find stuff I had missed before. Barry is easy to forget, but don't. He makes the game a lot easier.

Still loving the game though I guess I'm quickly closing in on the finish. I still need to do more in the arcade, the 100 trials and goof with the recipes.

cerial442 04-20-07 04:32 PM

I've got to the 4th world, and I'm starting to like this game better.

I need to go back and do the arcade though.

dick_grayson 04-20-07 04:34 PM

I thought the arcade was pretty weak. I'm about 10 hours in level 4 something. Good stuff.

tonyc3742 04-20-07 07:37 PM

Where's the arcade? I keep getting lost in Flipside, although once I find where I'm going, I can see in retrospect that there is a logical progression.
I just started Francis's level, and did find the Pit, but haven't gone into it yet. Map would be nice....

Spoiler:
Flip inside the bar in the basement of Flipside

UncleGramps 04-21-07 12:05 AM

Finished the game tonight at around 17 hours of play time. A very satisfying game despite the lack of challenge. I know I've missed a lot of things, so I'll probably keep playing for a little while until I find more of the optional stuff.

I finished Chapter 7. I may go and do the first 100 pit before going to 8.
What level where you at for the final chapter? I'm at 21 and I'm thinking that is plenty.

I'm not sure, but I think I was at level 15 when I finished. I know that I had 45 hit points when I started on 8-1 and I leveled up on 8-3 or 8-4, so I had 50 hit points when I started the last battle. I really just stuck to the main quest and didn't do many side quests. I checked a FAQ last night and saw that I missed three optional pixls, so I'm going back to get those, if nothing else. But yeah, you should be fine at level 21.

darkside 04-21-07 09:40 PM

Finished it tonight. Good game, but I'm ready to move on to Pokemon tomorrow.
It is kind of a short game if you want to run through it and it was pretty easy all around. I screwed around a lot and still finished it around 20 hours. If you felt like collecting all the cards you could get a lot more out of it. You can continue the game after beating it so maybe down the road I will go back to find all the cards. I found the pit of 100 trials a complete bore and skipped it so I would have to tackle that to get the rare cards.

It wasn't an A+ title, but it was very good and very funny despite the weak story. Worth the $30 I paid for it, but maybe not worth $50.

mdc3000 04-22-07 09:55 AM

I just picked this up, I'm only on world 2 but so far it's a lot of fun (despite the HUGE amounts of dialogue).
