Sonic and Mario team up for Olympic game on DS and Wii
Doesn't appear to be an early April Fool's joke. IGN has the story and it's on Sega's site.

While this was being discussed in the Wii thread already, it might as well go here.
I'm more interested in what this means for future Nintendo/Sega teamups. I'm really hoping this shows us that Sonic can (and likely will) be in SSB:Brawl!

I figured this was a little more important than just mixing it in with everything else in the Wii thread to warrant a separate thread. Even besides that it's also coming to DS, I think it's pretty significant for the history of video games.

But I like the idea of future crossovers in SSB: Brawl etc.

I probably stand alone, but I miss the classic track and field games and especially the Summer/Winter games titles from the Commodore 64.
So combining THE two biggest mascots/franchises to revive those type games pure genius, IMO. If it goes over well, the potential for future match-ups is great. Think of the value added changes to Nintendo franchises that usually offer little change generation to generation like the Mario sports titles, Mario Kart and Party titles. Even though it would be a simple character addition, that change alone would be greater than the minute changes currently offered from title to title.

Wow this is very nice news!
It will be cool to finally see the worlds of Mario and Sonic come together in a video game. My money is on Mario for the gold medal in the jumping (especially triple jump) and swimming competitions. But of course Sonic takes the gold in the running competitions.

i'll probably end up buying this if the price is right. i enjoy the party games and am still getting lots of action from warioware ever since i figured out you can unlock different play modes/minigames.

They should make a Sega v Nintendo SSB game after Brawl. But I don't see that happening since they only seem to do one SSB game per generation. One of those few games that have legs that seem to go on forever.

This sounds interesting.

I really hope this takes a page from Decathlete and Winter Heat. Those were my favorite T&F/Olympic style games post NES. We bought 2 multi-taps and like 7 extra controllers for those alone w/ our Saturn.

man the 1up guys were trashing this game on the last podcast. All from a name and concept. No footage, so screen shots, no idea how the wiimote would work, nothing to base it on. Then again it was the same story with Viva Pinata for months until it came out and then they were singing a different tune. You would think they might have learned a lesson on that one.
I will remain optimistic until we actually see anything.

I was all set to come and defend Sega's franchises...and looking at Wikipedia it is pretty thin. And even some of the ones I really like (Jet Grind, Panzer Dragoon, Toe Jam) were never really that popular. So outside of Sonic, none of the franchises really have the cache of a lot of Nintendo's. Still want to see LaLa from Space Channel 5 kick Princess Peaches ass though!
