RIP Gamecube.

Nintendo pulls the plug on the Gamecube. I know it's not a major news flash since the Wii is selling like hotcakes. I will just like to give props to a dear old friend.

I bought a Gamecube about a month after they launched in 2001. I have spend many, many hours playing games on the Cube. And who can forgot all the time they spent playing Animal Crossing when it was first released? I remember racing home from lunch just to play a few minutes before going back to work. It is still one of my all time favorite games.

So goodbye old friend, your big brother the Wii, has taken your place in my living room now. The great thing is, I can play all of my old Gamecube games on the Wii.

Nintendo ends support for the Gamecube.

I hollowed my GC out and use it as a portable toilet. Great for when you don't want to stop gaming to go to the bathroom. Since all the games work on the WII it turned out to be the perfect solution to an every day problem.

Go out and collect all those A list GC games before they are gone.

On that note, which are the A-list GC games that would be recommended? I have never bought a Nintendo console and have not played one since my brother bought a used NES. I know there are lots of 'kiddy' or family games on the GC, which is fine, because I have a four year old.
I saw about 5 different Mario Parties, but then I saw that there's one coming on the Wii in a couple months.

The GC got a lot of flak but a lot of it wasn't all that justified considering it had some of the best games ever on it. Luckily the gamecube lives on since Wii will play all those games, yay!

It actually would have surprised me if producing Gamecube games would have stopped. There are going to be a lot of people now who will just be starting to buy games for the Cube. I know I didn't have a Gamecube before, so now that I have the Wii, I'll probably buy a couple of titles. Plus, Playstation 2 consoles and games are stilling getting lots of sales. If the PS2 can survive a while longer, Gamecube games should probably continue for another year or so at least. I'll just end up raiding the used bins anyway, though.

That is a good point. I think a lot of the better Gamecube games could and will find a second life. I wouldn't even be surprised if we see a few re-releases down the line with Wii-upgrades. How hard would it be to add Wii functionality to Sunshine or Wind Waker? Or how about a rerelease of Pikmin (both one and two) on one disc? Ok, this stuff probably won't happen, but I think it would be hella cool if it did.

That's what I ask everytime a VC game comes out.

I loved the GC. I was just disappointed with the releases after awhile (along with most people). I think I'll find a copy of Eternal Darkness to celebrate the passage of such a solid system.
