PS2 and HDTV

Ive heard that using the PS2 on an HDTV makes the picture look horrible. Ive used my PS2 on my HD PC monitor and it does look bad. My question is that Im looking to upgrade my tv to an HDTV but doesnt seem worth it if my PS2 comes out blurry and unplayable. Does using component cables fix this problem?

It's mostly be tied to how well your TV can handle interlaced signals in the end.

do some tv's let you choose which signal you want? Like a 480i for PS2

About 1 in 4 games are 480p, but you have to manually enable it on start-up (hold X and Triangle) or select on the menu, like in Shadow of the Colossus.

Does anyone know of any tricks to get to Final Fantasy XI to output progressive? My widescreen set only has two component inputs, and they're used by my digital cable box and my DVD player currently. FFXI on my WS set is pretty painful trying to read the health stats and whatnot. Any ideas?

thanks
